  • This paper proposed a novel chip type ceramic dielectric antenna by using the advanced meander line technique that the radiational metals are formed on the face of ceramic dielectric(8$\times$4$\times$1.5 mm, alumina) and both faces of substrate(1.0 mm thickness, FR-4). The performance of the antenna model has a good agreements between measurements and computed results. Resultly, it has a 10 dB return-loss bandwidth(2.4∼2.4835 GHz) and 1.7 dBi measured radiation gain for Bluetooth application. The proposed antenna model can overcome the limited radiation of the small-sized antenna.

  • We investigated the impedance matching characteristics of UHF-band RFID tag antenna and tag chip for increased reading range. A voltage multiplier designed using 0.4 $\mu$m zero-$V_T$ MOSFET showed that DC output voltage of about 2 V can be obtained using standard CMOS process. The input impedance of the voltage multiplier was examined to achieve impedance matching to the RFID tag antenna using analytical and numerical approaches. The input impedance of the voltage multiplier could be varied in a wide range by selecting the size of MOSFET and the number of multiplying stages, and thus can be impedance matched to a tag antenna in presence of other tag circuit blocks. A meander line inductively-coupled RFID tag antenna operating at UHF band also shows the feasibility of impedance matching to tile RFID tag chip.

  • In a passive UHF RFID system, the impedance matching between tag antenna and chip as well as the protocol parameter settings in a reader plays important role in determination of the maximum read-range. Almost no paper, however, has dealt with the above issues in relation with the maximum read range. In this paper, two known methods (of using the value from data sheets and proprietary RFID tester) and our proposing method in chip impedance evaluation are compared in terms of maximum read range. The read range of tags whose antenna impedance is conjugate matched with the chip impedance obtained from the proposed method is improved maximum 73 % more than that of tags from the other methods.

  • In this paper, a dual-band high frequency (HF) and ultra-high frequency (UHF) radio-frequency identification (RFID) tag antenna is presented that operates in the 13.56 MHz band as well as in the 920 MHz band. A spiral coil along the edges of the antenna substrate is designed to handle the HF band, and a novel meander open complementary split ring resonator (MOCSRR) dipole antenna is utilized to generate the UHF band. The dual-band antenna is supported by a single-feeding port for mono-chip RFID applications. The antenna is fabricated using an FR4 substrate to verify theoretical and simulation designs, and it has compact dimensions of $80mm{\times}40mm{\times}0.8mm$. The proposed antenna also has an omnidirectional characteristic with a gain of approximately 1 dBi.

  • In this paper, the antenna which has a multiband operation (GSM850, EGSM, DCS1800, USPCS, W-CDMA) is proposed. This antenna was designed by the commercial software HFSS 3-D EM simulator, and it is organized by using a meander branch structure which has a via and lines on FR-4$(\varepsilon_r=4.4)$ substrate. Especially, it has a gap feeding structure which makes good operation at overall bandwidth. The designed antenna is manufactured by PCB processing, and measured by using a network analyzer and a test chamber. The manufactured antenna with the dimension of 8 mm width, 20 mm height and 3.2 mm thickness is able to applied as an internal antenna for multiband mobile phones.

  • This paper will read about a multichannel frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar sensor with switching transmit (TX) antennas is developed at W-band. To achieve a high angular resolution, a uniform linear array consisting of 5 switching-TX and 12 receive (RX) antennas is employed with the digital beamforming technique. The overall radar front-end module comprises a W-band transceiver and TX/RX antennas. A multichannel transceiver module consists of 5 up-conversion and 12 down-conversion channels, where one of the TX channels is sequentially switched ON. For developing transmitter, we developed an HPA (high power amplified) MMIC chip for W-band radar system and fabricated a transmitter module using this chip. In order to develop the W-band transmitter, we analyzed the important antenna transition structure from HPA MMIC line to W/G (Waveguide)antenna via M/S(microstrip) and fabricated it with 5 transmission channels. As a result, the output power of the transmitter was within 1 dB of the error range after analysis and measurement under normal temperature and environmental conditions.

  • This letter presents the design of a small and low-profile RFID tag antenna in the UHF band that can be mounted on metallic objects. The designed tag antenna, which uses a ceramic material as a substrate, consists of a radiating patch and a microstrip line with two shorting pins for a proximity-coupled feeding structure. Using this structure, impedance matching can be simply obtained between the antenna and tag chip without a matching network. The fractional impedance bandwidth for $S_{11}$ <3 dB and radiation efficiency are about 1.4% and 56% at 911 MHz, respectively. The read range is approximately from 5 m to 6 m when the tag antenna is mounted on a metallic surface.

  • This paper introduces a low-cost, high-performance mmWave antenna array module at 77 GHz. Conventional waveguide transitions have been replaced by 3D CPW-microstrip transitions which are much simpler to realize. They are compatible with low-cost substrate fabrication processes, allowing easy integration of ICs in 3D multi-chip modules. An antenna array is designed and implemented using multilayer coupled-fed patch antenna technology. The proposed $16{\times}16$ array antenna has a fractional bandwidth of 8.4% (6.5 GHz) and a 23.6-dBi realized gain at 77 GHz.

  • Recently, RFID(Radio Frequency IDentification) market spread in industry region is entering a phase of stagnation due to cost issue. RFID tag inlay cost has become relatively more expensive due to the recent decrease in chip price. Therefore, a simple and rapid design technique for RFID tag has yet to be implemented to achieve low cost. This paper presents a design technique considering chip impedance for antenna design for improved accuracy and computation time. As a result, it is confirmed that analysis error for resonance ranges within 20MHz and readable range error falls within 1.5m.
