The study uses a qualitative research method for an in-depth study on child care practice for preliminary child care teachers. The study shows firstly that prior to practice, a preliminary child care teacher expects to perform a dual role. The preliminary child care teacher conceives an unequal, vertical relationship with a practice guidance teacher and serves as someone between a teacher and a friend to children, while perceiving the facility head as a mediator and practice colleagues as companions. Secondly, the preliminary child care teacher performed a triple role, while the practice guidance teacher played the role of a preliminary child care teacher. A preliminary child care teacher has mutually supportive interaction with a practice guidance teacher and serves as someone between a teacher and a friend, while acting as an important supporter to the facility head and as an uncomfortable competitor to a practice colleague. Thirdly, when a practice is completed, a preliminary child care teacher feels satisfied and sorry, while emphasizing a balance between theory and practice in a curriculum. The purpose of the current study lies in figuring out the needs for child care practice for a preliminary child care teacher who is the subject in child care practice to suggest improvements for a qualitative enhancement of child care practice.
The purpose of this study is to examine the relationships between teacher's efficacy and job stress and the effects of educare center teacher's teaching efficacy on job stress. The subjects of this study were 200 teachers at the public, private, or home child-care centers in Pyeongtaek, Songtan and Osan. To analyze the general characteristics of subjects, frequency analysis and descriptives, ANOVA and correlation analysis, and multiple regression were used. The results of this study were as follows: First, educare center teacher's teaching efficacy level was a little higher than the average. The mean score of general belief of teaching efficacy was a little higher than the personal belief of teaching efficacy. Second, educare center teacher's job stress level show to be lower than average. Job related stress is the highest. Next is, the child related stress, personal related stress. Third, teaching efficacy significantly influenced on the job stress. The result indicated the higher educare center teacher's belief of efficacy was, the lower the job stress was. While general teaching efficacy was not associated with teaching efficacy, personal teaching efficacy was significantly related to teaching efficacy. The result of analyzing the effects of educare center teacher's teaching efficacy on job stress showed personal teaching efficacy had a strong influence on job stress. In detail, there was a significant negative correlation between personal teaching efficacy and job stress. Among the general factors such as the level of education, monthly income, work hours had significant influence on job stress. Therefore, the higher the level of education, the less monthly income, the longer work hours, it appeared that educare center teacher's job stress is higher.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the tendencies and general distributive features of creativity elements on activities in the Nuri curriculum teachers' guidebooks for the ages of 3-5. This was done by analysis of 1,883 activities related to creativity in the teachers' guidebooks. In order to analyze the data, the frequency and percentage of creativity elements were calculated. The results can be summarized as follows: First, the ratio of activities related to creativity was 95.1% for the age of three, 93.1% for the age of four, and 78.6% for the age of five. Second, the most common creativity element was cognitive element and the next was motivational element, and the least was dispositional element. Third, regarding themes, the frequency of creativity elements was highest in 'tools for living', and lowest in 'countries of the world'. Fourth, the creativity elements were more frequently found in group activities rather than free choice activities. Last, the frequency of creativity elements was highest in nature exploration, and was followed by social relations. The results of this study could be used as basic data for practicing activities related to creativity in the field of early childhood education.
This study is aimed at a comparison analyzing the contents of child 'safety education' in Three-four-year-old Nuri curriculum manual for teachers related activity type and activity form, life theme based on the criteria of analysis. First, the number of contents of child 'safety education' included in the 3 year old Nuri curriculum manual for teachers was 136, and among them, 71(52.2%) were from in big and small group activity. Total 124 contents were in 4-year old group and showed 58(46.8%) contents in big and small group activity. Second, it was identified that the Three-four-year-old Nuri curriculum handled highest number of child 'safety education' activities. Twenty-five activities from 'appliances' among a total of 127 child 'safety education' activities were included and included 21 activities in contents of 'safety for object, tool, and apparatus.' Thirty-three activities among 'health and safety' among a total of 131 child 'safety education' activities were included and it was identified that the highest number of child 'safety education' activities were conducted in 'safety for disease' contents. It will be hope to suggest some of the providing child 'safety education' of Three-four-year-old in education field, and to provide basic data for planning and suggesting directions for various training related to child safety education. Moreover, this study intends to provide basic data for composing necessary manual and program for child 'safety education' and to provide basic data for expanding the safety experience facility.
This study examined the moderating role of teacher-child relationship on the relation between children's shyness and peer victimization. Participants were 200 children(97 boys, 103 girls; recruited from classes with 5-6 year olds) and their kindergarten teachers. The teachers completed rating scales to measure the children's peer victimization, shyness and teacher-child relationship. The collected data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, t-tests, correlations, and hierarchical multiple regressions. Boys and girls were analyzed separately. Results showed that children's shyness had a positive relation to their peer victimization. Teacher-child relationship significantly related to children's peer victimization. Hierarchical regression analysis indicated that the interaction of boys' shyness and teacher-child closeness predicted boys' peer victimization. Boys' shyness, whose teachers demonstrated the lowest level of teacher-child closeness, was significantly associated with their peer victimization. Boys' shyness had a significant relation to their peer victimization, especially for the highest level of teacher-child conflictual relationship. Results are discussed in terms of the role of teachers to shy boys' peer victimization.
The objective of this study is to investigate the meaning of pre-service educare teachers' experience about child safety management classes based on Problem Based Learning (PBL). The participants in this study were thirty five sophomores majoring in Social Welfare, and fifteen weeks of data were collected. The participants were given five problems that were related with real situations. During the given period, they made documents from reflective journals, group or individual interviews, and online community resources. Analyzing the documents sheds light on the meaning of the pre-service educare teachers' experience. The results are as follows: First, pre-service educare teachers found themselves recovering confidence, earning recognitions from others, and pursuing their study. Second, they showed continuous conflicts not only with the PBL approach but also with themselves and group members. Finally, they experienced mutual help and interactions among the group members thorough their cooperative learning and they realized the meaning of cooperative learning by means of comparisons and references between the groups. In conclusion, this study confirms the applicability of PBL to the educare teacher training courses and points out specific ways to alleviate the conflicts in applying PBL to class needs in future studies.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect on child care teachers' self-efficacy in teaching science. Subjects were 297 childhood teachers who were working at a day care center. The data were collected by using three questionnaires(Science Teaching Efficacy Belief Instruments, Inventory of Science Attitude, and Attitude Test for Child Care Teachers). The data were analyzed by Pearson's correlation and step-wise Regression. The results of this study are as follows; First, there were positive correlations between aptitude for child care teacher and self-efficacy in teaching science. Second, there were positive correlations between science attitude and self-efficacy in teaching science of child care teachers. Third, the significant predictors of self-efficacy in teaching science were interest in science, social value of science, interpersonal relationship management abilities, and positive emotions. The results of this study can be used to develop effective teacher training programs for early childhood science education.
Objectives: The COVID-19 outbreak has resulted in changes in the instructional methods used in kindergartens and daycare centers to prevent viral infections. This study aimed to investigate the changes in oral health care for children before and during COVID-19 and the perceptions of kindergarten and daycare center teachers about oral health care. Methods: The study subjects were 189 teachers of kindergartens and daycare centers in charge of children aged 3 to 5. The data for the analysis were collected through an online survey. Frequency analysis and the chi-squared test were used for statistical analysis. Results: Compared to before COVID-19, the frequency of tooth brushing after lunch, the number of oral health education and regular oral examinations, and the rate of childcare teachers' experiences with oral health education had decreased during COVID-19. In addition, educators in kindergarten and daycare centers responded that an oral health officer at a public health center was the most desirable oral health educator. Conclusions: During the COVID-19 pandemic, the oral health care of children in kindergartens and daycare centers has declined. Efforts are needed to restore it by educating people about oral hygiene care and oral health education, both at home and in kindergartens and daycare centers.
The purpose of this study was to verify the double mediating effects of job stress and psychological commitment in the relationship between organizational incivility and job satisfaction of child-care teachers in South Korea. 234 Korean child-care teachers were purposively selected from S city of C Province. SPSS Win.25.0 and PROCESS Macro 4.2 were used for analyzing the data, and reliability analysis, frequency analysis, correlation analysis, and multiple mediation model analysis were conducted. Results are as follows. First, correlation analysis showed significant correlations between organizational incivility, job stress, psychological commitment, and job satisfaction. Second, path analysis showed that organizational incivility had a positive effect on job stress and a negative effect on psychological commitment and job satisfaction. Job stress had a negative and significant effect on psychological commitment and job satisfaction, and psychological commitment had a positive and significant effect on job satisfaction. Third, job stress and psychological commitment had consecutive double mediation in the link between organizational incivility and job satisfaction. This study suggests a way to utilize job stress and psychological commitment when childcare teachers' organizational incivility has a negative effect on job satisfaction.
The purpose of this study was to determine if teachers' perception of professionalism, teaching intentions, and the quality of teacher-child interactions differed by teachers' education and career and how those variables were associated with one another. It was conducted in 50 teachers who were in charge of two- to five-year-olds at 22 national/public, private, and employer-supported childcare centers in Seoul and Gyeonggi Province. Arnett's (1989) Caregiver Interaction Scale (CIS) translated by Choi and Shin (2015) was used to measure the quality of teacher-child interactions, and the Current Status and Self-Desire for Professional Competence scale developed by Wang (2005) and translated and revised by Jeong (2016) was used to measure a teacher's perception of professionalism. The Teaching Intention Scale (TIS) developed by Wilcox-Herzog and Ward (2004) and translated and revised by the researcher was used to measure teaching intentions. The researcher and the research assistant personally visited the centers to observe the teachers for the quality of teacher-child interactions and a questionnaire for teachers was used to determine a teacher's perception of professionalism and teaching intentions. For data analysis, t-test and Pearson's product-moment correlation analysis were performed on the basis of the questions. The results of this study can be summarized as follows: First, the quality of teacher-child interactions differed insignificantly by education or career. Second, teacher's perception of professionalism differed significantly by teachers' career but differed insignificantly by education: the longer career, the better perception of professionalism. Third, teaching intentions differed insignificantly by education or career. Fourth, teachers with better perception of professionalism showed higher quality of teacher-child interaction. Fifth, The higher level of teaching intentions teachers showed the more sensitive interactions they made with children.
