The purpose of this study is to examine the levels of maternal stress, social supports and child-rearing attitudes of the mothers of handicapped children by comparing those mothers of normal children. The subjects were 100 mothers of mentally handicapped children from elementary schools for handicapped children as well as 100 mothers of normal children from elementary schools in Pusan. The results are as follows : 1) The mothers of handicapped children showed significantly higher in maternal stress than the mothers of normal children. 2) For social support, the mothers of handicapped children recognized that they received significantly more insociable and emotional support than the mothers of normal children, but not in economic and service support. 3) For child-rearing attitudes, the mothers of handicapped children shelved significantly lower in lax attitude but not significantly different in affective, strict. punitive attitude than those of normal children. 4) For the mothers of handicapped children, they tend to be more affective and lax in child-rearing attitude when they receive more social support, while they tend to be more punitive when they have less sociable support.
The present investigation of the relations among economic hardship, parental child-rearing attitudes and adjustment in adolescence was carried out with 528 middle school children and their mothers in Kyung-gi province. Questionnaires for mothers were on economic stress, and children's questionnaires were on perceived parental attitudes as well as their own adjustment behaviors, such as aggression, depression, and negative self-concept. Adolescent boys perceived paternal child-rearing attitudes more rejecting and inconsistent when the family experienced income loss. Paternal nurturing behaviors perceived by children were also reduced under poor paternal working conditions. Change in family life style due to economic hardship resulted in higher adolescent depression.
Systematic Training for Effective Parenting, developed by Dinkmeyer and McKay, is a parent education program that emphasizes social-emotional development. The present research studied the applicability of STEP to Korean mothers by examining changes in mothers' self-concept, mother's child-rearing attitudes, and children's behavior. The subjects of this study were 43 mothers of a kindergarten in Chonju City. 25 mothers were assigned to the control group and 18 mothers to the experimental group. Primary observes, consisting of 43 fathers of kindergarten children, and secondary observers, consisting of 43 Woosuk University students observed mothers' child-rearing attitudes and children's behavior. Instruments included the self-concept test by Jung Woonsik, Schaefer's Maternal Behavior Research Instrument, O Kiseon's Parent Child Relationship Test, Fear's parent questionnaire, and McKay's Adlerian Parental Assessment of Child Behavior. The mothers' child-rearing attitudes and the children's behavior are recorded by the observers and were compared with mothers' responses. The data were analyzed by MANOVA (multivariate analysis of variance), and ANOVA (analysis of variance). While the MANOVA showed no significant difference between the control and the experimental groups in changing the mothers' self-concept, differences in 5 of the 8 subfactors showed that STEP implemented positive change in the self-identity, self-satisfaction, self-behavior, personal self and family self in the experimental group. The MANOVA showed a significant difference between the two groups in changing the mothers' child-rearing attitudes. That is after participating in the STEP program, the mothers of the experimental group showed more significant progress than those of the control group. Mothers' observations of positive change in children's behavior agreed with those of the primary and secondary observers.

The purpose of this study focused on paternal education semands of fathers. The subjects of this study were 213 in fathers with infant children. The findings of this study were as follows: First, paternal education demands are significantly different according to whether the parents have affectionate or denial child-rearing attitudes. Second, regarding paternal education demands according to child-rearing stresses, such as the sense of obligation and restriction, physical fatigue, the disposition of depression, and psychological damage of a child, these have a significant influence upon paternal education demands.
This study aimed to verify the effects of parental chid-rearing attitudes on adolescents' aggressiveness and the mediation effects of peer attachment. To this end, the 7th year data (2016) (4th grade to the first year of high school) of Korea Children & Youth Panel Survey (KCYPS) were used. The results of this study are as follows: First, the correlations between child-rearing attitudes, aggressiveness, and peer attachment variables were confirmed. Second, parental child-rearing attitudes significantly affected adolescents' aggressiveness. Third, peer attachment showed some mediation effects in terms of the effects of parental child-rearing attitudes on adolescents' aggressiveness. For the significance verification of the mediation effects, the Sobel test was carried out. The results of this study are meaningful as empirical foundation. Based on the study results, this study suggested the need of education programs for parents and peer attachment consolidation programs for adolescents in relation with social welfare mediation practice.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships between children's self-efficacy, parental child-rearing attitude perceived by the child, and creativity. The study subjects were 120 5th and 6th graders at elementary school in Gyeongbuk. The instruments of measurement were question sheets, Self-Efficacy Scale, and Parental child-rearing attitude Scale. For creative thinking tests, the Kim Yong-Chae version of TTCT (Torrance Test of Creative Thinking) was used. The data were analysed through mean, standard deviation, frequency, percentile, Cronbach's $\alpha$, and Pearson's Correlation Coefficient. The major findings of this study were as follows: First, the results from the correlational analysis didn't yield significant and meaningful correlations between children's self-efficacy and thinking creatively with words. Nevertheless, children's self-efficacy was partly related to thinking creatively with pictures. Second, the results from the correlational analysis didn't yield significant and meaningful correlations between warmth vs. rejection altitude of father and thinking creatively with words. Warmth vs. rejection attitudes of father was not related to thinking creatively with pictures. However, the results from the correlational analysis yielded a number of significant and meaningful correlations between self-control vs. regulation attitudes of father and the thinking creatively with words. The self-control vs. regulation attitudes of father was significantly positively related to the thinking creatively with pictures. Third, the warmth vs. rejection attitudes of mother was significantly positively related to the thinking creatively with words. However the warmth vs. rejection attitudes of mother was not related significantly to the thinking creatively with pictures. The self-control vs. regulation attitudes of mother was not related to the thinking creatively with words. Moreover, self-control vs. regulation attitudes of mother was not related to the thinking creatively with pictures.

The purpose of this study was to develop a 'Korean Child Rearing Attitudes Inventory', in order to understand the effects of parents rearing attitudes on social phobia. The total subjects were 392 high school students in Seoul. The scales wwereadministered to the subjects and we examined the reliability and validity. The results were as follows. According to the factor analysis, six factors abstracted from the father's rearing attitudes:rejection, high expectation, anxious, control, emotional care and overconcern of other's opinion. By the method of reliability analysis and factor analysis, finally selected items were 60. The reliability of the factors ranged from .76 to .90 by Cronbach ${\alpha}$. Five factors abstracted from the mother's rearing attitudes:anxious, high expectation, rejection, emotional care and overconcern of other's opinion. And total selected items of mother's rearing attitudes were 61. The reliability of the factors ranged from .72 to .91 by Cronbach ${\alpha}$. The construct validity and reliability of this inventory were supported.
The purpose of this study is to find how the mother's rearing patterns and attitudes influence on a child's social personality development. Many contemporary psychologists insist that mother's rearing attitudes and methods before age of six influence on child's social personality development a great deal. Freud divided the child's developmental stages into three : oral, anal, and phallic period. According to his assumptions the way of mother's feeding and weaning has very important relationship with the personality development through ora period and how to handle toilet training will greatly influence through anal period. In addition to this, Symonds declares that a mother's rearing attitudes will influence the establishment of social characteristics of the child. The moderate attitude-not too overprotective or rejective or submissive or dominate-is desirable. If mother's attitude declines to one aspect among these four kinds too much, the child would have chances to develop maladjusted social characteristics such as aggressiveness , submissiveness, dependency, and dominativeness. The hypotheses of this study were based on Freud and Symonds theory and tested by correlation and the difference of percentage. The results of the study were as follows : I. The relationship between rearing pattern and social characteristics 1. When the child has too strictly scheduled feeding time, he will have aggressive attitudes. 2. The longer the feeding period, the more dependency the child will have. 3. In case the toilet training was taken place too early or strictly, the child will withdraw into his shell. 4. When the child failed to perform the toilet training and was punished because of that, the child's personality will likely to be too submissive or aggressive. II. The relationship between mother's attitudes and social personality 1. When the mother's attitude is too overprotective the child showed withdrawn characteristics (r = 89) or dependency ( r = 24). 2. The child whose mother has too rejective attitude also showed withdrawn characteristics ( r = 31). As Sears insisted self-demanding schedule is recommendable and the weaning supposed to be started after age of one and a half years and finished around age of two. The toilet training which has rather severe consequences than the feeding methods should be started when the child is able to understand what is expected to him. Sears says that about two years after birth would be proper but individual difference should be considered. As a conclusion, Flexible and understanding attitudes and rearing methods is necessary for a sound establishment of social personality.
This study analyzed home environment, self-efficacy and parents' child rearing attitudes of disruptive children and of cooperative children in the classroom. Participants were 322 children(11-12 years of age) and 49 teachers. Instruments were four kinds of questionnaires. Data were analyzed by T-test and Fisher's exact test. Results of between group differences in parents' academic backgrounds showed more parents of cooperative children had completed high school. Disruptive children's mothers were more occupied outside the home; cooperative children's mothers engaged in more housework at home. Disruptive children's perceptions of their economic status were lower than cooperative children's perceptions. Results of comparison of general self-efficacy, scholastic self-efficacy, and home environment showed that disruptive children were statistically lower than cooperative children on all sub-variables.
The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of children's personality traits and parental child-rearing attitudes on clothing attitudes and color evaluation of preschool children. The subjects for this study consisted of 360 five-year-old children who were attending a preschool and their parents in Cheju Island Korea. Employed mothers had significantly higher score on love acceptance attitude than unemployed mothers did. Female children had more conservative attitude on clothing sex-role than male children did There were no significant gender differences in parental child-rearing attitudes. There were significant relationships between gender and preferred clothing colors. Male children were more likely to prefer blue red, green, and prussian blue for the colors of clothing than were female children while female children liked pink yellow and orange more than male children. Boys selected blue and girls selected pink as the most preferred clothing color. Overall preschool children chose red as the most preferred color black as the most disliked color. The children's sex identification by clothing color was highly consistent with the conservative attitude of adults for all colors. That is preschool children identified pink red and yellow with female color while prussian blue blue and green with male color. Clothing interest of boys was influenced by the mother's state of employment and academic trait. The boys high in academic trait and whose mothers did not have job were high in clothing interest. Clothing management of boys was influenced by emotionality and love acceptance rearing Ttitude. Clothing independednce of boys was influenced by authority control rearing attitude Clothing sex-role of boys was influenced by familism trait. The boys high in familism trait had open-hearted attitude in clothing sex-role. Clothing interest of girls was influenced by academic trait clothing management by sociality clothing independence by emotionality and clothing satisfaction by familism trait. Therefore the more positive personality children had the higher clothing interest and the more desirable clothing attitudes they had.
