In this study, we examined the charging behavior of chopped carbon fibers during electro-flocking process, which is one of the key processes of the novel technique for fabricating conductive polymer composite films. Short carbon fibers (CF) during electroflocking were electrically charged by the combined effect of contact charging, corona charging and tribocharging. The specific charge built on CF surface was measured by using Faraday cup method. Specific charge increased not only with increasing electric field strength and potential impressed to mesh electrode as expected from theoretical considerations in literature, but with decreasing mesh opening size due to the improved contact charging condition. However, CF length was found unexpectedly to influence the amount of CF specific charge due to the agglomerated nature of CF flocks leading to the change in charging conditions.

After the square type reset pulse, the condition of remaining wall charge has been experimentally investigated in AC-PDP with VDS (Versatile Driving Simulator) system, in which arbitrary driving waveform and sequence can be used. After the self-discharge process, almost wall charges are eliminated. But some wall charges are not and its quantity is dependent on the voltage of the reset pulse. When the voltage of the reset pulse is growing, its quantity is decreased. But if the voltage of the reset pulse is above 300V, the wall voltage due to remaining wall charge is constant and its value is found out 6V. Also it is found that its polarity is always same with the one made by the reset pulse. It means that the polarity is not changed by the self-discharge.

We studied the charge redistribution in the Pt-M (M=Cu, Co) alloys by X-ray Absorption Near Edge Spectroscopy(XANES) and X-ray Photoelectron Spectroscopy(XPS). These analysis tools provide us information about the charge transfer in the valence band of intermetallic bonding. The samples were prepared by arc-melting method. After annealing this samples in vacuum for several hours, we cold get the ordered samples, which were confirmed with XRD analysis. the core and valence level energy shift in these system were investigated by Mg $K\alpha$(1253.6eV) x-ray source for Pt-Co alloys and monochromatized Al $K\alpha$ (1486.6eV) for Pt-Cu alloys. Pt L2, L3-edge, and Cu, Co K-edge XANES spectra were measured with the total electron-yield mode detector at the 3Cl beam line of the PLS (Pohang light source0. from the changes of White line (WL) area and the core level shifts of the each metal sites, we can obtain the information about the electrons participating in the intermetallic bonding of the Pt-Cu and Pt-Co alloys.
In this work, the behaviours of conducting wire type particles within the coaxial electrode gap energized with high ac voltage have been systematically investigated using charge simulation method. For this, spheroidal charge is adopted as a image charge for the CSM analysis in order to calculate the acquired charge of the particles which are erected on the surface of the outer electrode. For this purpose, the effects of the lengths and diameters of Cu, Al particles in gas insulated system have been studied by a numerical computation and particle lifting voltage, lifting field, breakdown voltage, acquired charge and travelling distance have been considered. From this, we understand that the particle behaviours have different characteristics according to the particle lengths and diameters. And a possible countermeasure, based on the proposed simulation, has been provided with a view to estimating the flashover voltage of $SF_6$ gas under the 1 atm.

Polystyrene (PS) nanospheres with a monodisperse size distribution, positive surface charge and high molecular weight were successfully synthesized using various types of metal stearates in an aqueous NaOH medium. The diameter of the PS nanospheres was controlled from 80 to 450 nm by changing the type of metal stearate. It was also found that controlling the NaOH concentration in solution was important for producing monodisperse PS nanoparticles. The nanospheres prepared with zinc stearate possessed a positive surface charge of 60 to 80 mV, confirming that PS particles were functionalized with metal stearates. It is believed that the metal stearates provide PS particles with not only colloidal stability but also a positive surface charge.
We studied the critical pressure characteristics of an anode type ion beam source driven by both charge repulsion and diffusion mechanism. The critical pressure $P_{crit}$ of the diffusion type ion beam source was linearly decreased from 2.5 mTorr to 0.5 mTorr when the gas injection was varied in 3~10 sccm, while the $P_{crit}$ of the charge repulsion ion beam source was remained at 3.5 mTorr. At the gas injection of 10 sccm, the range of having normal beam shape in the charge repulsion ion beam source was about 6.4 times wider than that in the diffusion type ion beam source. An impurity of Fe 2p (KE = 776.68 eV) of 12.88 at. % was observed from the glass surface treated with the abnormal beam of the charge repulsion type ion beam source. The body temperature of the diffusion type ion beam source was observed to increase rapidly at the rate of $1.9^{\circ}C/min$ for 30 minutes and to vary slowly at the rate of $0.1^{\circ}C/min$ for 200 minutes for an abnormal beam and normal beam, respectively.

The electrical properties of Ti/p-type InP Schottky diodes with and without polyaniline (PANI) interlayer was investigated using current-voltage (I-V) and capacitance-voltage (C-V) measurements. The barrier height of Ti/p-type InP Schottky diode with PANI interlayer was higher than that of the conventional Ti/p-type InP Schottky diode, implying that the organic interlayer influenced the space-charge region of the Ti/p-type InP Schottky junction. At higher voltages, the current transport was dominated by the trap free space-charge-limited current and trap-filled space-charge-limited current in Ti/p-type InP Schottky diode without and with PANI interlayer, respectively. The domination of trap filled space-charge-limited current in Ti/p-type InP Schottky diode with PANI interlayer could be associated with the traps originated from structural defects prevailing in organic PANI interlayer.

Charge transfer through DNA oligonucleotides has been investigated for potential applications of DNA into molecular electrooptic switching devices. Electrons were injected using gold electrode probes where DNA oligomers were adsorbed that are separated in medium. The results show that increased adsorption of DNA reduces the ionization current due to the combined effect of charge transfer through DNA and surface-limited charge transport. The probe-based charge injection was extended to examine the capability of extinguishing fluorescence of Cy3 dye molecules attached to DNA. It is expected that the results may be employed to implementing a novel electrooptic switching device based on DNA molecules.

This paper reports on the charge distribution measurements of submicron particles for three different charging mechanisms, which are spray electrification, bipolar ionization and corona discharge process, respectively. The number of elementary charges per particle was investigated by classifying and counting of a discrete mobility class. Charge distribution measurements were performed with NaCl particles generated from a collision atomizer for 0.01, 0.1, 1% NaCl solutions. Experimental results show than charge level of atomized NaCl particles is high and decreases with increasing the dissolved ion concentration. The charge level of the atomized NaCl particles can be reduced to that o Boltzmann equilibrium conditions by the bipolar ionization(Po(sup)210 bipolar ionizer). The charge level on NaCl particles passing through the corona discharge reactor is much higher than those of atomized or bipolar ionized NaCl particles. The evaluation of these measurements results in charge distribution of the submicron particles.
Partial charge is an important and fundamental concept which can explain many aspects of chemistry. Since a molecule can be regarded as neclei surrounded by electron cloud, there is no way to define a partial charge accurately. Nevertheless, there have been many attempts to define these seemingly impossible parameters, since they would facilitate the understanding of molecular properties such as molecular dipole moment, solvation, hydrogen bonding, molecular spectroscopy, chemical reaction, etc. Common methods are based on the charge equalization, orbital occupancy, charge density, and electric multipole moments, and electrostatic potential fitting. Methods based on the charge equalization using electronegativity are very fast, and therefore they have been used to study many compounds. Methods to subdivide orbital occupancy using basis set conversion, relies on the notion that molecular orbitals are composed of atomic orbitals. The main idea is to reduce overlap integral between two nuclei using converted orthogonal basis sets. Using some quantum mechanical observables like electrostatic potential or charge multipole moments. Using potential grids obtained from wavefunction, partial charges can be fitted. these charges are most useful to describe intermolecular electrostatic interactions. Methods to using dipole moment and its derivatives, seems to be sensitive the level of theory, Dividing electron density using density gradient being the most rigorous theoretically among various schemes, bears best potential to describe the charge the most adequately in the future.
