An Analysis of Career Exploration and Career Decision-making by Identity Statuses of Vocational High School Students (실업계 고등학생의 자아정체감 상태에 따른 진로탐색 및 진로결정 분석)

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze of career exploration and career decision-making by identity statuses(diffusion, foreclosure, moratorium, achievement) of vocational high school students. The research questions were formulated as follows. (1) Is there a difference in identity statuses by level of the career exploration? (2) Is there a difference in identity statuses by level of the career decision-making? (3) How much identity statuses-identity diffusion, identity foreclosure, identity moratorium, identity achievement-effect to the career exploration and career decision-making? 255 vocational high school students in Pusan were sampled. For the statistical analysis, Oneway, analysis of covariance structure by AMOS 4.0 was applied. The results of the study were as follows. (1) The identity diffusion was low in the level of career exploration, but the identity moratorium and achievement were high in the level of career exploration. (3) The identity diffusion was low in the level of career decision-making, but the identity achievement was high in the level of career decision-making. (4) The identity diffusion effected to negatively career exploration and career decision-making, identity foreclosure effected to low positively career exploration and career decision-making, identity moratorium effected to positively career exploration but negatively career decision-making, identity achievement effected to positively career exploration and career decision-making.

Career obstacle factors and career identity according to career choice type among paramedic students (응급구조학과 학생들의 진로선택유형에 따른 진로장애요인과 진로정체감)

  • Purpose: The purpose of the study was to examine the career obstacle factors and career identity according to career choice type among paramedic students. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was completed by 234 paramedic students in C area from August 25 to September 3, 2015. The questionnaire consisted of general characteristics of the subjects, career obstacle factors, career identity, and types of career choice. The data were analyzed by t test, ANOVA, post hoc $Scheff{\acute{e}}$ test, Pearson's correlation analysis, and multiple regression analysis using SPSS v. 20.0. Results: Career obstacle factors and career identity of paramedic students had significant differences on motivation of university choice, major satisfaction, and job preference. A stable type of career choice showed a significantly lower score for career obstacle factors and a higher score for career identity. Career identity had a strongly positive relationship with major satisfaction and had a negative relationship with career obstacle factors. Logistic regression analysis revealed that the main variables affecting career identity were types of career choice, motivation of university choice, major satisfaction, and career obstacle factors. The explanatory power was 58.0%. Conclusion: The development of a career integrity enhancement program can solve the career obstacle factors for paramedic students.

Relations between Satisfaction in Major, Career Decision-making Self-efficacy and Career Identity of Nursing Students (간호대학생의 전공만족도, 진로결정 자기효능감과 진로정체감 관계)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study was to investigate the relation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. Methods: Data were collected from 543 students by means of self reported questionnaires about satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity from November 26 to 30, 2012. Results: The average score of satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students was 3.56 on a 5 point-scale, 3.28 on a 5 point-scale, and 2.65 on a 4 point-scale respectively. There were significant correlation between satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity of nursing students. Career identity could be explained 26.2% by satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy, admission motivation, and school grade. Conclusion: Career identity was correlated with satisfaction in major and career decision-making self-efficacy in nursing students. Therefore, it is necessary to develop an effective intervention program to improve nursing students's satisfaction in major, career decision-making self-efficacy and career identity.

Factors Affecting Career Identity of Nursing Students (간호학생의 진로정체감 영향요인)

  • Objectives: The purpose of this study was to investigate factors affecting the career identity of nursing students. Method: Subjects were 313 nursing students in Daegu. Consent from teachers and students were arbitrarily obtained. Mean, standard deviation, and regression determinations utilized SPSS version 12.0. Results: Career identity score of subjects was $31.79{\pm}5.78$ on basis of 56. Factors identified to be influential to career identity included time of career decision, self-evaluated career performance, satisfaction with clinical practice and college admittance. The influence of the factors on career identity was rated as 64.1% that is high value. Conclusions: The identified factors are important in determining career identity of nursing students. Further studies are needed to generalize these results and examine widely affecting variables of career identity.

  • This study seeks to investigate the mediating effect of career identity in the structural relationship between career anxiety, career stress, career identity, and career preparation behavior. Based on these results, we provide basic data for students' career guidance and career education. For this purpose, data were collected and analyzed targeting third-year commercial high school students preparing for their careers. As a result of the analysis, it was found that as career anxiety increases, students' career stress increases. However, career anxiety was found to have no direct effect on career identity and career preparation behavior. Second, career stress was found to have a significant impact on career identity and career preparation behavior. Third, the mediating effect of career identity was found to be high in the relationship between career stress and career preparation behavior. This shows that career stress increases actions for career preparation through career identity.

Correlations of self-esteem, major satisfaction and career identity in dental hygiene students (일부지역 치위생과 학생들의 자아존중감, 전공만족도 및 진로정체감과의 관련성)

  • Objectives: The purpose of the study is to investigate the factors influencing on self-esteem, major satisfaction, and career identity. Methods: A self-reported questionnaire was filled out by 389 dental hygiene students in three colleges located in Metropolitan area. The questionnaire consisted of 5 questions of general characteristics, 10 questions of self-efficacy, 18 questions of major satisfaction, and 13 questions of career identity by Likert 5 scale. Cronbach's alpha was 0.92 in self-efficacy, 0.90 in major satisfaction, and 0.88 in career identity in the previous studies. Cronbach's alpha in this study was 0.911 in major satisfaction, 0.840 in self-efficacy, and 0.8090 in career identity. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, independent t-test, one-way ANOVA, and stepwise multiple regressions. Results: The score was 3.47 in self-esteem, 3.79 in major satisfaction, and 3.03 in career identity. There were significant differences in self-esteem and major satisfaction based on grade, motivation for entering college, and clinical practice satisfaction. In case of career identity, there were significant differences based on characteristics, motivation for college choice, and clinical practice satisfaction. There was a positive correlation between negative self-esteem, positive self-esteem, general satisfaction, awareness satisfaction, curricula satisfaction, interpersonal relation satisfaction, and career identity. The influencing factors on career identity were aptitude, interest, self-esteem, and major satisfaction in order(p<0.001). Conclusions: The career identity is closely related to self-esteem and major satisfaction. It is desirable to open a variety of education courses and to develop systematic and practical programs to the students in order to improve the career identity.

  • The purpose of this study was to test the effect of the gender equality career education program on vocational gender egalitarianism and career identity of middle school students. The subjects of this study were 72 middle school students in Busan. They were divided into two groups, the experimental group and the control group, with 36 students each. Korea Gender Egalitarianism Scale for Adolescents and Career Identity Scale of My Vocational Situation(MVS) were used to measure vocational gender egalitarianism and career identity. Collected data were analyzed using t-test. Results of analysis showed that the experimental group showed higher vocational gender egalitarianism and higher career identity than the control group. The implications of this study for career guidance were discussed and recommendations for future research were made.

Mediating Effect of Career Identity and Career Determination Self-efficacy in Relationship Between Grit and Career Preparation Behavior of College Students majoring in Dental Hygiene (치위생 전공 대학생의 그릿과 진로준비행동의 관계에서 진로정체감과 진로결정자기효능감의 매개효과)

  • This study attempted to grasp the causal relationship, focusing on the double mediating effect of career identity and career decision self-efficacy in the relationship between grit and career preparation behavior. Data were collected by a self-entry method using structured questionnaire for dental hygiene student in area B. And it was analyzed using SPSS and Process Macro. The biggest factor directly influencing career preparation behavior was career identity, followed by grit and career decision self-efficacy. Through path analysis, grit indirectly had a significant influence on career preparation behavior through the mediating sense of career identity and the sense of career identity and career decision self-efficacy. This suggests that grit and career identity should be enhanced for active career preparation behavior, so it is intended to be used as basic data for career education contents development for college students majoring in dental hygiene.

The Development and the Effectiveness of a Career Group Counseling Program for Career Maturity, Career-Identity, and Career-Decision Self-Efficacy in High School Students (청소년의 진로성숙도와 진로정체감 및 진로결정 자기효능감 증진을 위한 진로 집단상담 프로그램의 개발과 효과)

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a Career Group Counseling Program to increase the career maturity, career-identity and career-decision self-efficacy of high school students, and to examine the effectiveness of such a program. In order to evaluate the effectiveness of the program thus developed, an experimental group which was exposed to the program and a control group without exposure to the program were compared. The program was administered over eight weekly sessions, each session lasting ninety minutes. The subjects in this study consisted of twenty four students. The experimental group and a control group were organized with twelve students in each. For the purpose of data processing, SPSS 16.0 was used to analyze the statistical results. The Career Maturity Scale, the Identity Scale, and Career Decision-Making Self-Efficacy Scale were used in a pre-test, post-test, and follow-up test. The findings of this study were as follows : The treatment group exhibited a significant statistically increasing degree of career maturity, career-identity and career-decision self-efficacy levels in comparison to the control group. The results of the study indicated the effectiveness of this newly developed Career Group Counseling Program on increasing career maturity, career-identity and career-decision self-efficacy levels.

The Effect of Career Group Counseling Program using Cinema on Self Identity and Career Decision-making Self-efficacy of Adolescent on Probation (영화를 활용한 진로 집단상담 프로그램이 보호관찰 청소년의 자아정체감과 진로결정 자기효능감에 미치는 효과)

  • Purpose: This study was to examine the effect of career group counseling program using cinema for the improving self identity and career decision-making self-efficacy of adolescents on probation. Methods: The subject were 36 (Experimental. 20, Control. 16) adolescents on probation who were referred to N mental health center in G city South Korea, but 2 of the experimental group did not complete the program. The program consisted of 8 sessions and was conducted from November, 2008 to February, 2009. The study variables were 'self identity' and 'career decision-making self-efficacy' surveyed by self-reported questionnaires. Results: Self identity (t=-2.797, p=.005), and career decision-making self-efficacy (t=-3.354, p=.001) changed more significantly in the experimental group than in control group after career group counseling program using cinema. Conclusion: Based on these results, career group counseling program using cinema for adolescents on probation was especially effective in increasing self identity and career decision-making self-efficacy.
