Blood transcriptome resources of chinstrap (Pygoscelis antarcticus) and gentoo (Pygoscelis papua) penguins from the South Shetland Islands, Antarctica

  • The chinstrap (Pygoscelis antarcticus) and gentoo (P. papua) penguins are distributed throughout Antarctica and the sub-Antarctic islands. In this study, high-quality de novo assemblies of blood transcriptomes from these penguins were generated using the Illumina MiSeq platform. A total of 22.2 and 21.8 raw reads were obtained from chinstrap and gentoo penguins, respectively. These reads were assembled using the Oases assembly platform and resulted in 26,036 and 21,854 contigs with N50 values of 929 and 933 base pairs, respectively. Functional gene annotations through pathway analyses of the Gene Ontology, EuKaryotic Orthologous Groups, and Kyoto Encyclopedia of Genes and Genomes (KEGG) databases were performed for each blood transcriptome, resulting in a similar compositional order between the two transcriptomes. Ortholog comparisons with previously published transcriptomes from the $Ad{\acute{e}}lie$ (P. adeliae) and emperor (Aptenodytes forsteri) penguins revealed that a high proportion of the four penguins' transcriptomes had significant sequence homology. Because blood and tissues of penguins have been used to monitor pollution in Antarctica, immune parameters in blood could be important indicators for understanding the health status of penguins and other Antarctic animals. In the blood transcriptomes, KEGG analyses detected many essential genes involved in the major innate immunity pathways, which are key metabolic pathways for maintaining homeostasis against exogenous infections or toxins. Blood transcriptome studies such as this may be useful for checking the immune and health status of penguins without sacrifice.

심장 치료 전후의 혈압 측정 인자의 변화에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Changes of Blood Pressure Measurement Factors Before and After Heart Treatment)

  • 상완 수축기 혈압과 맥압은 50세 이상의 개인에서 심혈관 질환의 예측 인자이다. 강성이 증가함에 따라 수축기 후기의 반사 진폭과 압력이 증가하여 좌심실 부하와 심근 산소 요구량이 증가한다. 따라서 강성이 혈압에 미치는 영향을 연구 할 필요가 있다. 본 연구에서는 약물 복용 전후에 혈압 맥파를 측정하고, 심부전 환자에서 심근 심장 이식 전후에 혈압 맥파를 측정하였다. Windkessel 모델의 R, L 및 C 구성 요소 간의 상관관계는 혈압을 높임으로써 추정되었다. 커브 피팅 방법을 사용하여 Windkessel 모델의 매개 변수를 모델링 한 결과 혈압의 증가와 수축기 상승 시간의 감소는 RLC Windkessel 모델의 L 성분이 증가했기 때문이다. 혈관의 다양한 기계적 특성 중에 높은 BP 파형에 영향을 미치는 가장 중요한 매개 변수는 실험결과로 이너턴스인 것을 증명하였다.

근적외선 분광법 기반 비침습식 혈당 수치 추정 알고리즘 연구 (Research on a Non-invasive Blood Glucose level Estimation Algorithm based on Near- infrared Spectroscopy)

  • 혈당 수치를 확인하기 위해 사용하는 채혈식 혈당 측정기의 불편함을 해소하기 위한 다양한 방법이 시도되고 있다. 본 논문에서는 근적외선 센서를 이용하여 획득한 스펙트럼 데이터로부터 머신러닝 기술을 사용하여 비침습적으로 혈당 수치를 추정하고자 하였다. 연구에 사용한 비침습식 혈당측정기는 가시광선을 포함하여 총 6개로 구성된 근적외선 발광부와 이를 수신하는 수광부를 가지는데, 손가락과 같은 인체의 특정 부위에 대한 스펙트럼 데이터를 수집하기 위해 만든 기기이다. 혈당 수치에 따라 유의미한 차이가 있는지를 검증하기 위해 머신 러닝 알고리즘들을 통해 혈당 수치 추정을 시도하였다. 수집한 데이터에 5가지 머신 러닝 알고리즘 기법을 적용하면서 다양한 하이퍼 파라미터를 조정한 결과, 서포트 벡터 회귀 알고리즘이 가장 좋은 성능을 나타냄을 확인하였다.

도시거주자의 혈중 카드뮴 농도와 간 및 신장 기능과의 상관성 평가 (Effective Factors on Association between Liver/kidney Function and Blood-Cd Level in the Korean Urban People)

  • The possibility that liver and kidney function is adversely affected by current levels of environmental exposure to cadmium (Cd) as investigated in adult men and women in the general population in Seoul. From February to August in 2001, blood and morning spot urine samples were collected from 136 not occupationally exposed group (age range 20∼75 years) at 4 survey sites throughout seoul. Liver and kidney function parameters in serum and urine were examined by conventional methods. The questionnaire included factors, i.e. sex, age, smoking, alcohol, diet habit etc. The geometric mean values for Cd in blood (Cd-B) were 1.43 $\mu\textrm{g}$/1, It seemed prudent to conclude that liver and kidney function as not disturbed by the current environmental exposure to Cd in study.

Midazolam과 국소 마취제를 이용한 정맥 내 진정법 시 치과 환자에서 관찰되는 변화에 대한 연구 (PROSPECTIVE CLINICAL STUDY OF MIDAZOLAM SEDATION IN PATIENTS UNDERGOING DENTAL PRACTICE)

  • Purpose: The objective of this study was to evaluate the clinical parameters in terms of the midazolam sedation in patients undergoing dental practice. Patients and Methods: Total 28 patients were included in this study. They received the dental practice in the daycare center and sedation was done with midazolam. The recorded variables were blood pressure, pulse rate, $SpO_2$, and patient's response. The differences between observations were analyzed with paired samples t-test. Results: The blood pressure was significantly decreased after the administration of midazolam and the systolic pressure was significantly increased at the start of operation (P<0.05). The pulse rate was significantly increased after lidocaine injection (P<0.001). The amnesic effect was shown 21 cases out of 28 cases (75%). Conclusions: The effect of midazolam on pulse rate was not significant. However, midazolam could decrease the blood pressure significantly. Therefore, the sedation with midazolam could be successfully used in the dental practice, particularly for the patients having the hypertension.

가토에서의 Praziquantel의 체내 동태 (Pharmacokinetics of Praziquantel in Rabbits)

  • Pharmacokinetic studies on praziquantel in rabbits were performed in this paper. The pharmacologically active parent drug was separated from the pharmacologically inactive metabolites by HPLC method. The pharmacokinetic parameters of parent drug were obtained. In vitro partition to blood cells of praziquantel was measured. The mean value (n = 3) of partition to blood cells was 44% at concentrations between $1\;{\mu}g/ml$ and $40\;{\mu}g/ml$. Therefore, the relatively high partition to blood cells should be considered in further pharmacokinetic studies on praziquantel.

시메티딘 정맥투여가 사이크로스포린의 체내동태에 미치는 영향 (Effect of Cimetidine on the Pharmacokinetics of Intraveneous Cyclosporine in Human Subjects)

  • The effect of cimetidine on the pbarmacokinetic parameters of cyclosporine (intravenous administration) were determined in 6 healthy volunteers (22-48 years old, 48-62 kg) by cross-over design. Cyclosporine and cyclosporine metabolites in whole blood were analysed by fluororescence polarization immunoassay (TDx-FLX). The blood concentrations of cyclosporine After pretreatment with cimetidine (200 mg bid, for 3days) were increased significantly at 8-12 hrs compared to the control (p<0.05). The ratios of blood concentrations of cyclosporine metabolites (M1, M17) to parent drug were decreased significantly at 8-12 hrs (p<0.05). Total body clearance (CL) was also decreased significantly (p<0.05), and area under the curve $(AUC,\%)$ was increased but not significant.

  • A new method for the artificial beta cell which can be used to control the hyperglycemia in diabetic patients was represented. The relationship between the insulin infusion rate and the blood glucose concentration was described by the second order ARMA model, and the time varying parameters were identified by exponentially weighted least squares estimator. The design of controller was based on the pole assignment self tuning altorithm with discrete blood sampling and the constraints of input and output responsse rate were considered. The results of animal experiments show that this method may be a fruitful approach for regulating the blood glucose level. We expect that this device can be used as both therapeutic and research tools providing that its stability and reliability are improved a little more.

  • The cynomolgus monkey(Macaca fascicularis) is used widely in efficacy and safety assessment of new drugs. The ranges of physiological variables are important end points in the toxicological study. Both the basic physiological variables such as body weight, body temperature, blood pressure, urine pH and blood variables such as biochemical and hematological variables were determined in nineteen male and sixteen female monkey prior to treatment.(omitted)

  • This study investigates the geometrical impact on the nanomedicine drug delivery via nanodevices. A nanomotor made of the nanotube carrying the drug as the motor blade is considered in the blood flow. Physical activities change the blood flow, and sports training enhances the blood flow and plays a significant role in the stability of drug delivery devices. This paper studies the impact of geometrical parameters on the nanomotors carrying the nanomedicine. The effect of physical exercise on the dynamic response regarding the stability of drug delivery devices is discussed in detail.
