  • In this paper we propose an architecture for VLC(Variable Length Coder) and VLD(Variable Length Decoder) which is simple with respect to implementation point and efficient in memory. We implemented encoding and decoding circuit where we need only 7-bit address memory space for 114 MPEG1 DCT coefficients and employed minimal number of flip-flops and logics for an architecture to integrate a shift register for serial-to-parallel or parallel-to-serial conversion of the data in code mapping ROM. We obtained 50Mbps operating speed in both encoding and decoding process as the result of simulation using 0.80.8${\mu}m$ CMOS standard cells.

  • This paper proposes serial test data compression, a novel DFT scheme for embedded cores in SOC. To reduce test data amounts, share bit compression and fault undetectable fault pattern compression techniques was used. A Circuits using serial test data compression method are derived from a scan DFT method including a test-per-clock technique. For an experiment of the proposed compression method, full scan versions of ISCASS85 and ISCASS89 were used. ATALANTA has been used for ATPG and fault simulation. The amount of test data has been reduced by maximum 98% comparing with original data.

  • The SSA technique in the digital circuit test is required to be repeated the input pattern stream to n bits output nodes n times in case of using a multiplexor. Because the method adopting a parallel/serial bit convertor to remove this inefficiency has disadvantage of requiring the test time n times for a pattern, the test strategy is required, which can enhance the test productivity by reducing the test time based on simplified fault detection mechanism. Accordingly, this paper proposes a test strategy which enhances the test productivity and efficiency by appling PAS (Parallel Signature Analysis) technique to those after analyzing the structure and characteristics of the digital devices including TTL and CMOS family ICs as well as ROM and RAM. The PSA technique identifies the faults by comparing the reminder from good device with reminder from the tested device. At this time, the reminder is obtained by enforcing the data stream obtained from output pins of the tested device on the LFSR(Linear Feedback Shift Resister) representing the characteristic equation. Also, the method to obtain the optimal signature analyzer is explained by furnishing the short bit input streams to the long bit input streams to the LFSR having 8, 12, 16, 20bit input/output pins and by analyzing the occurring probability of error which is impossible to detect. Finally, the effectiveness of the proposed test strategy is verified by simulating the stuck at 1 errors or stuck at 0 errors for several devices on typical 8051 digital board.

  • In this paper, we proposed a new scalar multiplier structure needed for an elliptic curve cryptosystem(ECC) over the standard basis in GF(2$^{163}$ ). It consists of a bit-serial multiplier and a divider with control logics, and the divider consumes most of the processing time. To speed up the division processing, we developed a new division algorithm based on the extended Euclid algorithm. Dynamic data dependency of the Euclid algorithm has been transformed to static and fixed data flow by a localization technique, to make it independent of the input and field polynomial. Compared to other existing scalar multipliers, the new scalar multiplier requires smaller gate counts with improved processor performance. It has been synthesized using Samsung 0.18 um CMOS technology, and the maximum operating frequency is estimated 250 MHz. The resulting performance is 148 kbps, that is, it takes 1.1 msec to process a 163-bit data frame. We assure that this performance is enough to be used for digital signature, encryption/decryption, and key exchanges in real time environments.

  • High-speed 3D vision systems are essential for autonomous robot or vehicle control applications. In our study, a stereo vision process has been developed. It consists of three steps : extraction of edges in right and left images, matching corresponding edges and calculation of the 3D map. This process is implemented in a VME 150/40 Imaging Technology vision system. It is a modular system composed by a display, an acquisition, a four Mbytes image frame memory, and three computational cards. Programmable accelerator computational modules are running at 40 MHz and are based on TMS320C31 DSP with a $64{\times}32$ bit instruction cache and two $1024{\times}32$ bit internal RAMs. Each is equipped with 512 Kbytes static RAM, 4 Mbytes image memory, 1 Mbytes flash EEPROM and a serial port. Data transfers and communications between modules are provided by three 8 bit global video bus, and three local configurable pipeline 8 bit video bus. The VME bus is dedicated to system management. Tasks between DSPs are distributed as follows: two DSPs are used to edges detection, one for the right image and the other for the left one. The last processor computes the matching process and the 3D calculation. With $512{\times}512$ pixels images, this sensor generates dense 3D maps at a rate of about 1 Hz depending of the scene complexity. Results can surely be improved by using a special suited multiprocessors cards.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient $GF(2^m)$ multi-segment multiplier architecture and study its application to elliptic curve cryptography processors. The multi-segment based ECC datapath has a very small combinational multiplier to compute partial products, most of its internal data buses are word-sized, and it has only a single m bit multiplexer and a single m bit register. Hence, the resource requirements of the proposed ECC datapath can be minimized as the segment number increases and word-size is decreased. Hence, as compared to the ECC processor based on digit-serial multiplication, the proposed ECC datapath is more efficient in resource usage. The resource requirement of ECC Processor implementation depends not only on the number of basic hardware components but also on the complexity of interconnection among them. To show the realistic area efficiency of proposed ECC processors, we implemented both the ECC processors based on the proposed multi-segment multiplication and digit serial multiplication and compared their FPGA resource usages. The experimental results show that the Proposed multi-segment multiplication method allows to implement ECC coprocessors, requiring about half of FPGA resources as compared to digit serial multiplication.

  • Recently the high-end CMOS image sensors are developed, conforming to the SMIA CCP2 specification, which is a high-speed low-power serial interface based on LVDS technology. But this kind of technology trend makes the existing equipments are no longer useful, although their capability is still good enough to handle the recent image sensors if there was no interfacing problem. In this paper, we propose and realize a data protocol conversion system that translates the SMIA CCP2 serial signals into the existing 10-bit parallel signals. The proposed system is composed of a de-serializer and a FPCA chip, and thus can be constructed on a small PCB which enables easy integration between the existing equipments and the new high-end image sensors. Besides, the maximum transfer rate by the SMIA specification is also achieved on the implemented system. So it is expected that the implemented system can be used as a general-purpose protocol converter in a variety of sensor-related application fields.

  • Using the self duality of an optimal normal basis(ONB) of type II, we present a bit parallel and bit serial systolic arrays over GF($2^m$) which has a low hardware complexity and a low latency. We show that our multiplier has a latency m+1 and the basic cell of our circuit design needs 5 latches(flip-flops). Comparing with other arrays of the same kinds, we find that our array has significantly reduced latency and hardware complexity.
