In order to control Pectobacterium carotovorum subsp. carotovorum, a novel virulent bacteriophage PM2 was isolated. Bacteriophage PM2 can infect 48% of P. carotovorum subsp. carotovorum and 78% of P. carotovorum subsp. brasilliensis but none of atrosepticum, betavasculorum, odoriferum and wasabiae isolates had been infected with PM2. PM2 phage belongs to the family Myoviridae, and contains a large head and contractile tail. It has a 170,286 base pair genome that encodes 291 open reading frames (ORFs) and 12 tRNAs. Most ORFs in bacteriophage PM2 share a high level of homology with T4-like phages including IME08, RB69, and JS98. Phylogenetic analysis based on the amino acid sequence of terminase large subunits confirmed that PM2 is classified as a T4-like phage. It contains no integrase- or no repressor-coding genes related to the lysogenic cycle, and lifestyle prediction using PHACT software suggested that PM2 is a virulent bacteriophage.
From February 2000 to December 2001, A total of 1,785 samples was taken from beef and pork carcasses in Seoul. Seven(0.69%) Listeria spp. were isolated from the 1,014 of beef carcasses, and five(0.65%) were isolated from the 771 of pork carcasses. The isolates were identified L monocytogenes by API listeria, and VIDAS LMO kit, serological test and PCR assay were preformed. A total 12 strains of L monocytogenes were isolated form samples tested and all of the strains were classified into serotype 1. PCR primers are selected to amplify a 520-base pair(bp) DNA fragment from the listeolysin O gene(hlyA) of Listeria monocytogenes. A 520-bp product was detected in PCR with DNA from L monocytogenes, but not from the other Listeria species tested.

A flat type $NO_2$ micro gas sensor was fabricated by MEMS technology. In order to heat up gas sensing material such as $WO_3$ to a target temperature, a micro hotplate was built on the gas sensor. The temperature distribution of micro gas sensor was analyzed by a CFD program, FLUENT. The results showed that the temperature of silicon wafer base was almost similar to that of the room temperature, which indicates that the heat generated at the micro hotplate heated up effectively the sensing material and its thermal isolation was kept. The uniformity of temperature on the sensing material can be improved by modifying the shape of micro hotplate.

One hundred and seventeen crude drugs were screened for DNA-binding activity in vitro. The DNA-methyl green assay is a useful biochemical screen for the detection or development of biologically active compounds which bind to DNA. This assay is based upon the fact that free methyl green undergoes rapid spontaneous molecular rearrangement to its colorless carbinol base so that the liberation of the dye from DNA by displacement can be followed spectrophotometrically as a decrease in absorbance at 65Onm. Seven methanolic extracts of crude drugs including Cinnamomi Cortex spissus, Coicis Semen, Coptidis Rhizoma, Perillae Semen, Plantaginis Semen, Polygalae Radix and Zanthoxyli Fructus showed less than 2,000${\mu}$g/ml as their $IC_{50}$ values. The active principles of Plantaginis Semen and Zanthoxyli Fructus were transferred into organic solvents, which showed the $IC_{50}$ values with 588 and 574${\mu}$g/ml, respectively. These fractions have been selected for isolation of biologically active constituents.

Radio frequency (RF) microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) have been pursued for more than a decade as a solution of high-performance on-chip fixed, tunable and reconfigurable circuits. This paper reviews our research work on RF MEMS switches and switching circuits in the past five years. The research work first concentrates on the development of lateral DC-contact switches and capacitive shunt switches. Low insertion loss, high isolation and wide frequency band have been achieved for the two types of switches; then the switches have been integrated with transmission lines to achieve different switching circuits, such as single-pole-multi-throw (SPMT) switching circuits, tunable band-pass filter, tunable band-stop filter and reconfigurable filter circuits. Substrate transfer process and surface planarization process are used to fabricate the above mentioned devices and circuits. The advantages of these two fabrication processes provide great flexibility in developing different types of RF MEMS switches and circuits. The ultimate target is to produce more powerful and sophisticated wireless appliances operating in handsets, base stations, and satellites with low power consumption and cost.

The linearization technique for low noise amplifier (LNA) has been implemented in standard $0.18-{\mu}m$ BiCMOS process. The MOS-BJT derivative superposition (MBDS) technique exploits a parallel LC tank in the emitter of bipolar transistor to reduce the second-order non-linear coefficient ($g_{m2}$) which limits the enhancement of linearity performance. Two feedback capacitances are used in parallel with the base-collector and gate-drain capacitances to adjust the phase of third-order non-linear coefficients of bipolar and MOS transistors to improve the linearity characteristics. The MBDS technique is also employed cascode configuration to further reduce the second-order nonlinear coefficient. The proposed LNA exhibits gain of 9.3 dB and noise figure (NF) of 2.3 dB at 2 GHz. The excellent IIP3 of 20 dBm and low-power power consumption of 5.14 mW at the power supply of 1 V are achieved. The input return loss ($S_{11}$) and output return loss ($S_{22}$) are kept below - 10 dB and -15 dB, respectively. The reverse isolation ($S_{12}$) is better than -50 dB.

Background Congenital muscular torticollis (CMT) is a benign condition. With early diagnosis and appropriate management, it can be cured completely, leaving no residual deformity. However, long-standing, untreated CMT can lead to permanent craniofacial deformities and asymmetry. Methods Nineteen patients presented to the author with congenital muscular torticollis. Three dimensional computed tomography (3-D CT) scans was obtained upon patient’s admission. Adjustment of skull’s position to Frankfort horizontal plan was done. Cervical vertebral segmentation was done which allowed a 3D module to be separately created for each vertebra to detect any anatomical or positional changes. Results The segmented vertebrae showed an apparent anatomical changes, which were most noticeable at the level of the atlas and axis vertebrae. These changes decreased gradually till reaching the seventh cervical vertebra, which appeared to be normal in all patients. The changes in the atlas vertebra were mostly due to its intimate relation with the skull base, while the changes of the axis were the most significantConclusion Cervical vertebral segmentation is a reliable tool for isolation and studying cervical vertebral pathological changes of each vertebra separately. The accuracy of the procedures in addition to the availability of many software that can be used for segmentation will allow many surgeons to use segmentation of the vertebrae for diagnosis and even for preoperative simulation planning.
To investigate the seismic pounding response of long-span bridges with high-piers under strong ground motions, shaking table tests were performed on a 1/10-scaled bridge model consisting of three continuous spans with rigid frames and one simply-supported span. The seismic pounding responses of this bridge model under different earthquake excitations including the uniform excitation and the traveling wave excitations were experimentally studied. The influence of dampers to the seismic pounding effects at the expansion joints was analyzed through nonlinear dynamic analyses in this research. The seismic pounding effects obtained from numerical analyses of the bridge model are in favorable agreement with the experimental results. Seismic pounding effect of bridge superstructures is dependent on the structural dynamic properties of the adjacent spans and characteristics of ground motions. Moreover, supplemental damping can effectively mitigate pounding effects of the bridge superstructures, and reduce the base shear forces of the bridge piers.
The genomic DNA was prepared from trout liver which was treated with 3-methycholanthrene, and cloned into lambda EMBL3 at BamHl site. The genomic library was constructed via infections of these recombinant phages into E. coli K802, and screened by the most $5^I$-portion of trout CYP1A1 cDNA. After the screening of $10^9$ clones of the amplified library, 12 positive clones were isolated, and subjected to further screenings. The results of southern blot hybridization of genomic DNA prepared from the positive clone showed the presence of a single gene of CYP1A1, and 3.5 Kb PstI fragment that hybridizes with the most $5^I$-region DNA of CYP1A1 cDNA. The restriction map of PstI fragment was determined by the restriction digestion with various enzymes. The nucleotide sequence of the upstream genomic DNA of CYPIAI was determined by DNA sequencing of exonuclease III unidirectionally deleted PstI fragment DNA using $[^{35}/S]$dATP. This paper presented the upstream genomic DNA of CYP1A1 contained a part of coding region which was about 351 base pairs (from ATG to PstI site at 3563).

The crude bioflavonoids were obtained by methanol and butanol extraction from Iyophilized orange (Citrus sinensis) peel. And then, its yield was about 0.26% in dry base. Two bioflavonoids were purified by gel filtration and HPLC, and could be identified narirutin and hesperidin through TLC, HPLC, UV spertrum and NMR analysis. The yields of narirutin and hesperidin from a gram of crude bioflavonoids were 42mg and 530mg respectively, and the main fraction of bioflavonoid from orange peel was supposed to be hesperidin. Each component was intravenously injected into Sprague-Dawley rats (1mg/100g body weight) and hesperidin was found to lower their blood pressure significantly (p < 0.001).
