  • In this paper, we propose a precise parameter extraction of interior permanent magnet (IPM) motors based on finite element analysis. For the calculation of the two-axis inductances Ld and Lq, the slotting effect and cross magnetization due to torque angle are considered. It is examined that back electro-motive force (BEMF) constant is affected by the magnetic saturation in different ways dependent on motor types. Numerical analyses and some measurements are performed for a spoke type and a flux barrier type IPM motors

  • In this paper, we improve the full-Newton step infeasible interior-point algorithm proposed by Mansouri et al. [6]. The algorithm takes only one full-Newton step in a major iteration. To perform this step, the algorithm adopts the largest logical value for the barrier update parameter ${\theta}$. This value is adapted with the value of proximity function ${\delta}$ related to (x, y, s) in current iteration of the algorithm. We derive a suitable interval to change the parameter ${\theta}$ from iteration to iteration. This leads to more flexibilities in the algorithm, compared to the situation that ${\theta}$ takes a default fixed value.

  • Recently, ozone is utilized in various fields and its needs are expanding. In this paper, glass and ceramic plate tyre ozonizer have been fabricated to investigate discharge parameter(input power, flow rate of supplied gas, electrode form, etc.) effect to discharge. And the conditions of discharge parameter have been investigated for optimum ozone generation. Ozone concentration is continuously increased with increasing input power for same discharge space, and ozone yield is also increased until maximum point after that it is saturated. Ozone concentration is inversely proportional to flow rate of supplied gas but ozone generation and ozone vield characteristics are improved.

  • The concrete median barrier used currently in South Korea was developed the impact level of SB5-B(270kJ). However, the impact level of SB6(420kJ) should be considered in many placed with the increased accident of heavy vehicles. In order to increase the impact resistance of newly developed concrete median barrier, the computer simulation was conducted before real field test. For the accurate behavior of concrete, the parameter, such as impact vehicle, concrete cover depth and deterioration, was important. In this paper, a parametric study was conducted depending on vehicle curb weight, concrete cover depth and level of deterioration. The impact resistance of concrete median barrier was severely changed depending on vehicle curb weight and concrete cover depth. Furthermore, the impact resistance of concrete median barrier was also decreased due to deterioration of concrete, therefore the repair and rehabilitation should be conducted for damaged concrete depending on deterioration level. Therefore, vehicle curb weight, cover depth of concrete structures and deterioration level of concrete should be carefully considered for conducting analysis of concrete structure to vehicle collision.

  • We propose a SPICE model of drain-induced barrier lowering (DIBL) for a junctionless cylindrical surrounding gate (JLCSG) MOSFETs. To this end, the potential distribution in the channel is obtained via the Poisson equation, and the threshold voltage model is presented for the JLCSG MOSFET. In a JLCSG nano-structured MOSFET, a channel radius affects the carrier transfer as well as the channel length and oxide thickness; therefore, DIBL should be expressed as a function of channel length, channel radius, and oxide thickness. Consequently, it can be seen that DIBLs are proportional to the power of -3 for the channel length, 2 for the channel radius, 1 for the thickness of the oxide film, and the constant of proportionality is 18.5 when the SPICE parameter, the static feedback coefficient ${\eta}$, is between 0.2 and 1.0. In particular, as the channel radius and the oxide film thickness increase, the value of ${\eta}$ remains nearly constant.

  • Installing noise barriers is the most common method for reducing the highway traffic noise to the road side residential area. After the report about edge potential concept of a noise barrier, various types of noise reducing devices(NRDs) called "noise reducers" have been suggested for getting more shielding effect on the top of highway noise barriers. But, it has been doubtful about effect of the NRDs in field because there was no appropriate and unified method to estimate the acoustic performance by using field measurement of the NRDs in Korea. In this study, the authors have considered to setup a practical method to test and estimate the acoustic performance of NRDs. For eliminating the noise reduction effect of the NRDs height itself, the source and measuring points are adjusted as highly as the NRDs height. For the frequency weighting in the estimation of the NRDs effect, the highway noise spectra were measured at asphalt and concrete road side and then averaged for a unit spectral parameter.

  • Since the concept of graphene was established, it has been intensively investigated by researchers. The unique characteristics of graphene have been reported, the graphene attracted a lot of attention for material overcomes the limitations of existing semiconductor materials. Because of these trends, economical fabrication technique is becoming more and more important topic. Especially, the epitaxial growth method by sublimating the silicon atoms on Silicon carbide (SiC) substrate have been reported on the mass production of high quality graphene sheets. Although SiC exists in a variety of polytypes, the 3C-SiC polytypes is the only polytype that grows directly on Si substrate. To practical use of graphene for electronic devices, the technique, forming the graphene on 3C-SiC(111)/Si structure, is much helpful technique. In this paper, we report on the growth of graphene on 3C-SiC(111) surface. To investigate the morphology of formed graphene on the 3C-SiC(111) surface, the radial distribution function (RDF) was calculated using molecular dynamics (MD) simulation. Through the comparison between the kinetic energies and the diffusion energy barrier of surface carbon atoms, we successfully determined that the graphitization strongly depends on temperature. This graphitization occurs above the annealing temperature of 1500K, and is also closely related to the behavior of carbon atoms on SiC surface. By analyzing the results, we found that the diffusion energy barrier is the key parameter of graphene growth on SiC surface.

  • In this paper, We analyzed the current-voltage characteristics with n-type silicon substrates concentration and temperature variations (Room temperature, 5$0^{\circ}C$, 75$^{\circ}C$) in platinum silicide and silicon junction. Measurement electrical parameters are forward turn-on voltage, reverse breakdown voltage, barrier height, saturation current, ideality factor, dynamic resistance acceding to junction concentration of substrates and temperature variations. As a result, the forward turn-on voltage, reverse breakdown voltage, barrier height and dynamic resistance were decreased but saturation current and ideality factor were increased by substrates concentration variations. Reverse breakdown voltage and dynamic resistance were increased by temperature variations.

  • The buffer is a critical barrier component in an engineered barrier system, and its purpose is to prevent potential radionuclides from leaking out from a damaged canister by filling the void in the repository. No experimental parameters exist that can describe the buffer expansion phenomenon when Kyeongju bentonite, which is a buffer candidate material available in Korea, is exposed to groundwater. As conventional experiments to determine these parameters are time consuming and complicated, simple swelling pressure tests, numerical modeling, and machine learning are used in this study to obtain the parameters required to establish a numerical model that can simulate swelling. Swelling tests conducted using Kyeongju bentonite are emulated using the COMSOL Multiphysics numerical analysis tool. Relationships between the swelling phenomenon and mechanical parameters are determined via an artificial neural network. Subsequently, by inputting the swelling tests results into the network, the values for the mechanical parameters of Kyeongju bentonite are obtained. Sensitivity analysis is performed to identify the influential parameters. Results of the numerical analysis based on the identified mechanical parameters are consistent with the experimental values.
