  • This paper suggests a new non-linear friction compensation for digital control systems. This control adopts a hysteresis nonlinear element which can introduce the phase lead of the control system to compensate the phase delay comes from the inherent time delay of a digital control. A proper Lyapunov function is selected and the Lyapunov direct method is used to prove the asymptotic stability of the suggested control.

  • Simultaneous confidence intervals for the parameters in the logistic regression models with random regressors are considered. A method based on the bootstrap and its stochastic approximation will be developed. A key idea in using the bootstrap method to construct simultaneous confidence intervals is the concept of prepivoting which uses the transformation of a root by its estimated cumulative distribution function. Repeated use of prepivoting makes the overall coverage probability asymptotically correct and the coverage probabilities of the individual confidence statement asymptotically equal. This method is compared with ordinary asymptotic methods based on Scheffe's and Bonferroni's through Monte Carlo simulation.

  • The asymptotic behavior of graded Betti numbers of powers of homogeneous ideals in a polynomial ring over a field has recently been reviewed. We extend quasi-polynomial behavior of graded Betti numbers of powers of homogenous ideals to ℤ-graded algebra over Noetherian local ring. Furthermore our main result treats the Betti table of filtrations which is finite or integral over the Rees algebra.

  • In this paper we develop an unconditional method for inferences on the shape parameter of a gamma distribution. A simple numerical implementation of this unconditional method is developed; this is a computer program that takes the observed data as input and produces the confidence distribution function for the shape parameter, which in turn provides approximate observe significance levels and confidence intervals for that parameter, as output. These approximations are extremely accurate even for very small sample size and numerically simple and easy to obtain.

  • Nonparametric kernel regression has recently gained widespread acceptance as an attractive method for the nonparametric estimation of the mean function from noisy regression data. Also, the practical implementation of kernel method is enhanced by the availability of reliable rule for automatic selection of the bandwidth. In this article, we propose a method for automatic selection of the bandwidth that minimizes the asymptotic mean square error. Then, the estimated bandwidth by the proposed method is compared with the theoretical optimal bandwidth and a bandwidth by plug-in method. Simulation study is performed and shows satisfactory behavior of the proposed method.

  • This paper represents a disturbance compensation control for attenuating disturbance responses. In the consideration of the requirements on the model accuracy in the model based compensator designs, an experimental feed forward compensator design based on adaptive estimation by Filtered-x least mean square (FXLMS) algorithm is proposed. The convergence properties of the FXLMS algorithm are discussed and its conditions for the asymptotic convergence are derived theoretically. The effectiveness of the proposed method and the theoretical proof are verified by computer simulation.

  • In 1954 Frame, Robinson and Thrall [5] gave the hook formula for the number of standard Young tableaux of a given shape. Since then many proofs for the hook formula have been given using various methods. See [9] forprobabilistic method and see [6] or [12] for combinatorial ones. Regev [10] has given asymptotic values for these numbers and Gouyou-Beauchamps [8] gave exact formulas for the number of standard Young tableaux having n cells and at most k rows in the cases k = 4 and k = 5.

  • Schanuel's formula describes the distribution of rational points on projective space. In this paper we will extend it to algebraic points of bounded degree in the case of ${\mathbb{P}}^1$. The estimate formula will also give an explicit error term which is quite small relative to the leading term. It will also lead to a quasi-asymptotic formula for the number of points of bounded degree on ${\mathbb{P}}^1$ according as the height bound goes to $\infty$.

  • An estimation problem of treatment effect for bivariate censored survival data is considered under location shift model between two sample. The proposed estimator is very intuitive and can be obtained in a closed form. Asymptotic results of the proposed estimator are discussed and simulation studies are performed to show the strength of the proposed estimator.

  • Convergence of the state error e to zero in adaptive systems is shown using the uniqueness of solutions and the existence of a Lyapunov function in which the adaptation laws are constructed. Results in the paper are general, and therefore applicable to any adaptive control of a linear/nonlinear, time-varying or distributed-parameter system. Since the approach taken in the paper does not require the boundedness of the derivative of the state error e for all t .geq. 0, it is particularly useful in the adaptive control of infinite dimensional systems.
