Purpose: The purpose of this study was to examine the health care management status of preschoolers depending on the children's characteristics. Methods: The sample of this study were 212 mothers of preschoolers attending Child Care Centers in three cities, Seoul, Daejon, and Suwon, in Korea. A self administered questionnaire developed by investigators was used to collect data from September 15 to October 31, 2002. Data was analyzed with SPSS 11.5 Win program. Results: 5.7% of the children had not completed their vaccination programs. Children who were second or later birth order showed less complete vaccination rates than firstborn babies. Children who had working mothers showed less complete vaccination rates than those whose mothers did not work. Among the various vaccinations, the DPT and MMR booster vaccination rates were the lowest. Home safety scores were higher when mothers have younger children. higher monthly incomes and reside in apartment type houses. Forty one(41%) of the preschoolers experienced accidents, and the accident rate was higher in boys and children with easy temperament. The most frequently experienced accident was laceration. Twenty eight point eight percent(28.8%) of the children experienced hospitalization because of various diseases. Most of the mothers perceived their children healthy. However, children who were second or third born were perceived less as healthy. Children in families with less monthly income were perceived as less healthy. Conclusions: This study provided basic data about preschoolers' health care management status focusing on vaccinations and accident rates. More attention should be paid to preschoolers' health and safety. Related factors found in this study should be considered when providing anticipatory guidance for parents.
This study was conducted to compare families eating-out behavior in relation to family life cycle in order to provide basic information on nutritional education about eating-out. The data were collected by the survey method from 440 families who lived in apartment complexes in Kyong-ju and Seoul. The structured questionnaire included items about the frequency of eating out, the choice of eating-out menus, the decision maker of the eating-out process, the attitudes toward eating out and the general characteristics of the families. The major results are as follow: 1) In the cafe of telephone delivery service, and eat-in restaurants, the subjects showed statistical significance (p < 0.01). With respect to telephone delivery service, families in Step II used it most frequently, but families in Step I rarely used it. With respect to eat-in restaurants, families in Step II used them most frequently but families in Step IV rarely used them. 2) In all the family life cycle steps, the most favorable menu was fried chicken for take-out type, Chajang noodles, fried chicken and pizza fur telephone delivery, pizza for internet delivery, raw fish and beef for eat-in restaurant, Docbokki, laver rolled rice and ramyun for convenience flood stores. 3) The wife was most influential in making decisions about the take-out type (p < 0.001). In the case of telephone deliveries (p < 0.001), the wife was the most influential in the families of Steps I and II, but the children were the most influential in the families of Steps III and IV. In the case of eat-in restaurants (p < 0.001), the husband had the most effect on the decision-making process. In the case of convenience flood stores (p < 0.001), the children were the most influential in the families in Steps III and IV. In most family life cycle steps, each of them chose their own meal. 4) from a factor analysis perspective, attitudes toward eating out have been grouped according to two factors, namely 'Advantage' and 'Nutrition'. No factor showed a significant difference among the family life cycle steps.
The study is conducted to identify the effects of the dementia preventive program on dementia knowledge, depression and cognitive function. A nonequivalent control group with pretest-posttest design was used on 61 elderly who were assigned to the experimental group 30 and control group 31. By using SPSS WIN 21.0 program, independent t-test was performed as analyzing method. The result of this study showed that average level of dementia knowledge was increased statistically (t=3.976, p<.001) at experimental group. Average level of cognitive function was increased statistically significant (t=3.048, p<.05) at experimental group. These findings confirmed that the dementia preventive program for preventing dementia was effective for improving dementia knowledge and cognitive function for elderly. Therefore, it is further encouraged to perform the dementia preventive program for preventing dementia within other Korean community in USA.

The purpose of this study is to investigate what owners think of their housing and their community by scrutinizing households, thereby leading to a conclusion of how these communities have developed and the advantages they provide to their owners. This study was conducted by thoroughly interviewing one member from each of a total of 10 households living in apartments and villas in the Gangnamgu area of Seoul between August 5, 2008, and September 25, 2008. The results can be summarized as follows: First, all interviewees were female, within the range of 40 years to 50 years of age, and with high educational backgrounds. They were living in mid-level income or higher households but were characterized by frugal attitudes. Second, their households held a personal and familial meaning to them, one of providing replenishment, rest, and a place to share diverse feelings with their family. Certain factors such as being a convenient place for education, rising housing prices, a large area of greenery made possible by Yangjae Cheon, and so forth contributed to giving a special significance to their housings. The interviewees all thought the convenience of education and the rising housing prices in the Gangnam area were the most important factors. Third, the interviewees indicated the following sociocultural perspectives of Gangnam housings: They provide a good environment for education due to the densely clustered academies in the Daechi-dong area. There are many opportunities to meet neighbors with similar educational and economic backgrounds. There are vast areas of greenery such as Yangjae Cheon. There is access to highly advanced cultural and shopping facilities such as COEX, Seoul Arts Center, etc. There are no amusement centers located near the housing districts. There are convenient transportation methods and facilities. They are subject to jealous looks from people living outside the Gangnam area. Lastly, it seems that no significant community spirit exists among the dwellers of each apartment or villa. However, matters of self-interest such as construction problems, which contribute greatly to creating personal wealth, were exceptions when the dwellers united as a single household.

Recently, the gated community has been increasing due to various reasons such as demand for differentiated areas and security, but various problems have been raised, including regional conflicts, traffic restrictions and disconnection of surrounding areas. Therefore, this study empirically considered what kind of spatial effect the gated community has on the surrounding area by analyzing the vitality using floating population big data and analyzing pedestrian accessibility using network analysis and social network analysis. As a result, it was found that the overall vitality in the study area was greatly affected by the land use and the building use. However, focusing on apartment complexes, even in the same land use, when the form of the complex is open to the outside, there is a lot of floating population, so the vitality is high. In terms of accessibility, assuming that the gated community is open, it was found that as the physical connectivity improved, there were more roads for pedestrians to choose from, and the accessibility improved as traffic and exchanges occurred in the disconnected space. The value of improving property rights and residential environment is also precious, but it is necessary to review how to reflect the improvement of local permeability in enhancing the publicness of cities and the value and direction of communities that can coexist with the region.
The purpose of the study was to identify the level of housing choice behavior by using the factors of residential satisfaction level, mobility motivation, and housing needs of potential purchasers in Bukgu New Housing Area, Ulsan. The survey used questionnaire from 326 households living in Bukgu and nearby area and analyzed using descriptive statistics. The research results showed low degree of residential satisfaction in storage space and neighborhood. The mobility motivations were improvement of physical environment improvement, education environment, walking road, view and lighting. The housing needs for indoor spaces showed to want more functional arrangement than the room size. The housing needs for outdoor spaces showed to want neighborhood environment in connection with the education or hospital facilities, the welfare facilities for pre-kindergarten children and elders and the leisure facilities. And the housing needs for facilities were floor furnishing for health, crime prevention system for safety needs, housekeeping appliance against environmental pollution, additional function for energy saving. The housing needs for common spaces showed that the residents preferred playing facilities by age group, exercise facilities, the community hall and the rest room which can do games or meetings.
The purpose of this study was to explore the attitudes about the management service charge in multi-family housing. Recently, increasing needs of urban families in residential housing management services were apparent in many studies, but the way that they charge for the management services was not dear. Research method was social survey with questionnaire from 484 residents and 84 housing managers of multi-family housing in Seoul and new town area. Research results showed that residents recognized the management services should be free of charge or imposed actual expenses, but managers recognized the management services as charged services. To provide efficient housing management services for residents in multi-family housing, human resources should be inputted. Therefore, this study suggested that the participation of residents in housing management service is recommendable as a way of lessen the economic burden of management service charge, but also to have an opportunity to interest in their community activities.
This study examined the general housing awareness and awareness on house sharing of college students who are present residents as well as potential residents of shared houses. To achieve this purpose, structured questionnaires were used as a survey tool to understand students' awareness on housing and opinions on house sharing including a range of space sharing, preferences on house mates, and demands on services and facilities. The survey was conducted of college students in Busan, and the data were analyzed by the PASW Statistics 18.0 program. The findings of this study are as follows: 1) The housing awareness was categorized into seven factors by factor analysis. The subjects valued 'personality factor' in the housing awareness. 2) Regarding preference of house mate type, participants preferred a person who has similar lifestyle and in the same gender. 3) As for the space sharing, the subjects didn't want to share a bathroom and shower. Also, they preferred medium or large scale dormitory layout type to small sized apartment type. 4) The most positive aspect of house sharing was 'Reduction of rental and maintenance cost'. On the other hand, 'Difference of daily life pattern' was the most negative aspect of house sharing. 5) In case of services and community spaces, they preferred 'delivery storage service' and 'coin-operated laundry facility'.
The purpose of this study was to examine the factors of environmental friendliness perceived among residents, and to provide housing designers and housing policy makers with the relevant information. Literature review and questionnaire survey were used in this research. Data drawn from 320 residents living in the Bundang area were analyzed. Data were analyzed with the SPSS PC+ 11.0 window version. The results were summarized as follows: 1) Residents were satisfied with the amenity of their residential environment but they were unsatisfied with other ecosystem among environment friendly factors. And they pointed out that three factors are very important factors among environmental friendliness, which are the environmental friendliness apartment community plan, the minimization of environmental pollution, the energy saving. 2) There was significant difference the evaluation of environmental friendly factors according to sex, age, educational level of wife, and income. Especially, women are unsatisfied with environmental friendliness of their residential environment and it was founded that the older the age, the more positive evaluation on their residential environment. 3) There was significant difference in the evaluation of environmental friendly factors according to location, housing type, homeownership, and residential period. Location was related to the amenity of their residential environment, housing type, homeownership, and residential period were related to the convenience of their residential environment.
The objectives of this study were 1) to analyze the attitudes about Elderly Assisted Living(EAL), 2) to consider the policy implications for elderly communal housing according to socio-economic status(income, occupation and education). The survey was undertaken from August to September, 2000 in Seoul and Kyunggi-Do(Ilsan, Bundang). The data were analyzed by SPSS Window program. The major findings were as follows: Most of the respondents prefered to live in EAL(over 56%), under 10 units and desired to be serviced(housework.leisure medical program.meal service). The upper class respondents preferred high-rise apartment style inner city or suburban and prefered paid services in EAL. They would willingly to pay over 800,000 won for living expenses and more than 200 million won for buying their own EAL. The middle class respondents prefered 5 stories multi-family house style with common facilities as a number. And they prefered to common facilities opening to public if the quality of facilities were better. The low class respondents prefered 5 stories multi-family house style and prefered to live within 30 minutes apart from their families and friends. They would pay under 300,000~600,000won for monthly living expenses and under 100 million won for their own EAL.
