  • The electrical characteristics associated with crystal structure changes as a function of La content for $(Pb_{1-x}La_x)(Zr_{0.5}Ti_{0.5})O_3$ thin films were investigated for applications in memory capacitors. Tetragonality of PLZT films decreased with increasing La content. Thin films with La $\geq$ 20 mol% were found to be cubic. Films with La $\geq$ 12 mol% exhibited broader dielectric peaks compared to those of bulk ceramics and behaved as relaxer ferroelectrics. Tetragonal PLZT film with 12 mol% La had a dielectric constant maximum of 1330 at room temperature and a charge storage density of ${\sim}18{\mu}C/cm^2$ at 5 V. Decrease in coercive field and remnant polarization with increase in La content were resulting from less dipolar response caused by the decreased crystal anisotropy. The leakage current densities $<10^{-8}A/cm^2$ up to 5 V bias voltage were observed for the films with La $\geq$ 14 mol%.

  • Magnetoresistance changes of NiFe thin films were investigated as a function of deposition temperature. DC magnetron sputtering was employed to fabricate Ta/NiFe(t)/Ta thin films on Si(001) substrates with in-situ field or with no-field. The thickness(t) of NiFe films was a range of 4 to 15nm. Substrate temperature was a range of 30 to 400$^{\circ}C$. MR measurement was carried out as a function of angle $\theta$, between external field and current direction. MR ratio increased with increasing substrate temperature, also, max. MR ratio was observed in samples deposited at 300$^{\circ}C$. With increasing upto 400$^{\circ}C$, MR ratio was rapidly decreased in the case of thinner NiFe films. In non-field deposited NiFe films, both angle $\theta$=0, 90。, there was no significant change in MR curves. However, MR curves of in-situ field deposited NiFe films were different in both angles $\theta$=0 and 90。

  • An implicit finite element formulation for axisymmetric tube hydroforming is investigated. In order to describe normal anisotropy of the tube, Hill's non-quadratic yield function is employed. The frictional contact between die and tube and frictionless contact between tube and fluid are considered using the mesh-normal vector computed from finite element mesh of the tube. In order to verify the validity of the developed finite element formulation, the axisymmetric tube bulge test is simulated and simulation results are compared with experimental measurements. In the axisymmetric tube hydroforming process, an optimal hydraulic curve is pursued by performing the simulation with various internal pressures and axial forces.

  • Recently, the hydroforming process is widely applied to the automotive industry and rapidly spreaded to other industries. In this paper, An implicit finite element formulation for simulating axisymmetric tube hydroforming processes is performed. In order to describe normal anisotropy of the tube, Hill's non-quadratic yield function is employed. The frictional contact between die and tube and the frictionless contact between tube and fluid are considered using the mesh-normal vectors computed from the finite element mesh of the tube. The complete set of the governing relations comprising equilibrium and interfacial equations is linearized for Newton-Raphson procedure. In order to verify the validity of the developed finite element formulation, the axisymmetric tube bulge test is simulated and the simulation results are compared with experimental measurements. In a simulation of stepped circular tube hydroforming processes, an optimal hydraulic pressure curve is pursued by considering simultaneously internal pressures and axial forces.

  • Based upon the derived analytical model and equation of motion for the general rotor system with anisotropic stator and asymmetric rotor treated as a periodically time-varying system, the series of equations are structured by associating with the time modulated coefficients. The frequency response functions (FRFs) expressed by physical parameters are derived in such a convenient way from the direct inverse matrices of the Fourier transformation of those series of equations, from which the characteristics are analyzed and the properties are suggested.

  • The solution structure of bovine pancreatic trypsin inhibitor(BPTI) has been refined by NMR chemical shift data of C${\alpha}$H using classical molecular dynamics simulation. The structure dependent part of the observable chemical shift was modeled by ring current effect, magnetic anisotropy effect from the nearby groups, whereas the structure independent part was replaced with the random coil shift. A new harmonic function derived from the differences between the observed and calculated chemical shifts was added into physical force field as an pseudo potential energy term with force constant of 250 kJmol-1 ppm-2. During the 1.5 ns molecular dynamics simulation with chemical shift restraints BPTI has accessed different conformation space compared to crystal and NOE driven structure.

  • Three nonlinear κ-ε models with the wall function method are applied to the fully developed turbulent flow in a triangular subchannel of a bare rod bundle. Typical predicted quantities such as axial and secondary velocities, turbulent kinetic energy and wall shear stress are compared in details both qualitatively and quantitatively with both each other and experimental data. The nonlinear κ-ε models by Speziale[1] and Myong and Kasagi[2] are found to be capable of predicting accurately noncircular duct flows involving turbulence-driven secondary motion. The nonlinear κ-ε model by Shih et aL.[3] adopted in a commercial code is found to be unable to predict accurately noncircular flows with the prediction level of secondary flows one order less than that of the experiment.

  • A new time series method, directional ARMAX (dARMAX) model-based approach. is proposed for rotor dynamics identification. The dARMAX processes complex-valued signals, utilizing the complex modal testing theory which enables the separation of the backward and forward modes in the two-sided frequency domain and makes effective modal parameter identification possible, to account for the dynamic characteristics inherent in rotating machinery. This paper is divided into two parts : The dARMAX modeling, analysis. and fitting strategy are presented in the first part. whereas a evaluation of its performance characteristics based on both simulated and experimental data is presented in the second.

  • A cryogenic electron cyclotron resonance plasma etching system has been built to study wafer-temperature in the silicon etching characteristics. The wafer temperature was controlled from -150 to +30 $^{\circ}C$ during etching using the liquid nitrogen cooled helium gas. Although silicon was etched isotropically in $SF_6$ plasma at room temperatures, we found that it is possible to suppress the etch undercut in Si by reducing a substrate temperature without side wall passivation. In addition, the selectivity of silicon to photoresist was improved considerably at a low wafer temperature. Etch rates, anisotropy and selectivity to photo resist are measured as a function of the wafer temperature in the region of -125 $\sim$ 25$^{\circ}C$ and rf bias power of 20W $\sim$ 80W.

  • A theoretical study is presented for the prediction of the scattering of obliquely incident plane acoustic wave by transversely isotropic cylindrical shells immersed in water. In dorder to illustrate the vailidity of the theory backscattering form functions are compared with the existing results for degenerated problems: the catterings by isotropic shell and transversely isotropic solid cylinder. The unidirectional fiber reinforced boron-aluminum composites are selected as a model of transversely isotropic materials having potential applications in practice. From the resonant scattering analysis of the partial backscattering form functions, the dispersion curves for fluid-borne Stoneley wave, guided wave along the shell, and the lowest three Lamb type waves can be found. The Lamb type dispersions are compared with those of the flat plate. The variation of anisotropy significantly affects the properties of circumferential waves. From these results, it can be possible to identify parametrically the material properties of anisotropic cylindrical targets.
