  • The purpose of this study was to synthesize and interpret the findings of previous qualitative studies that investigated the lived experiences of Korean emerging adults who aged out of the foster care system. Based on our selection criteria, we extracted and analyzed 14 papers that were published between 2010 to 2023. Our meta-synthesis found that the emerging adults' life world consisted of seven domains: family experience, life tasks, education and work, financial issues, home and family, interpersonal relationships, and psychological and emotional issues. We restructured the emerging adults' lived experiences using van Manen's concepts of lived time, lived space, lived things, lived self-other, and lived body. Our meta-synthesis revealed that these emerging adults experienced multidimensional difficulties due to shortcomings of formal and informal social support after aging out of the foster care system. Their difficulties accumulated in their interaction with lived time. Based on the level of their accumulated difficulties, we categorized the emerging adults into stable, struggling, and isolated groups. However, it is important to note that many of them adapted to their own life world and strived to move forward. This qualitative meta-synthesis provides a comprehensive understanding and new interpretation of emerging adults who transition from foster care to independent living in the context of Korea.

  • In order to study for the production techniques and the materials of using in Korean Lacquer Antiques, we examined the section structure by SEM and Microscope, the qualitative analysis of lacquer layer by XRF and XRD, the qualitative analysis of Golhae layer by XRF and XRD, the qualitative analysis of Golhae by EDS on the locquer-wares which was excavated from Anapchi Pond Site in Kyungju and Miruksa Temple Site in Iksan. In the lacquer-wares excavated from Anapchi Pond Site, the lacuqer-wares layers made by a cloth attached on the surface of wooden vessel and Golhae-a mixture of clay and lacquer-covered on the cloth and finally finished with the red lacqure, being mixed with pure mercury sulfide(HgS) and lacquer. And raw materials of Golhae made of clay. The lacquer-wares excavated from Miruksa Temple Site in Iksan, we presumed that the lacquer-wares used fine born grains in place of clay for the raw materials of Golhae. Expecially in case of black lacquer-tray, we found that lacquer put on the surface of wooden vessel without cloth attaching and Golhae covering and the production of wooden vessel was used power-driven machine.

  • This study aims to find out and measure the level of factors affecting the applicability of environmental management accounting (EMA) in Vietnamese automobile industry enterprises. Data was collected using both quantitative and qualitative methods. First, in general research, qualitative methodology was used to find out factors (variables) that can impact the possibility of implementing EMA in Vietnamese automobile enterprises. Second, in detailed research, all variables are measured using a quantitative method by collecting data through sampling and sending questionnaires. 500 questionnaires were sent to automobile enterprise managers and only 352 questionnaires met the criteria for the data analysis. The study used a mixed research design approach- a procedure for collecting, analyzing, and "mixing" both quantitative and qualitative research and methods in a single study to understand the research problem. Results show that 7 factors affect the possibility of implementing EMA in Vietnamese automobile industry enterprises. These factors are coercive pressure, normative pressure, mimetic pressure, business environmental uncertainty, environmental strategy, benefits when applying EMA, and task complexity. Based on the results of the study, promoting EMA in the automotive industry should depend mainly on the role of governmental departments.

  • This study measures and compares the performance of research and development (R&D) programs in government-funded research institutes (GRIs) in terms of qualitative and quantitative approaches to find out strategic insights for improving performance evaluation policy. In particular, we adopt the evaluation results from the real data of K institute in 2015 for a qualitative evaluation and the results of data envelopment analysis (DEA) for a quantitative evaluation. Comparative analysis of the R&D performance of 14 programs finds that the difference between the evaluation results of qualitative and quantitative approaches is significant. From this finding, we suggest several strategic directions to complement two approaches each other.

  • Objectives: This study was to compare two healthy cities, Liverpool in England and Wonju in Korea, which evaluated healthy city projects and to reorient evaluation strategy which fits into Korean Healthy cities. Methods: Comparatives analysis was used by reviewing documents, healthy city plan and evaluation report, of two cities. Results: Healthy city projects in two cities, fifteen programs were identical items among twenty-seven but there were differences in seven items for Liverpool and five items for Wonju. In Liverpool evaluation was done by a stakeholder group called Liverpool Local Involvement Network(LINK), while in Wonju by Yonsei Healthy City Research Center. The evaluation tool was two types; quantitative and qualitative analysis. Liverpool mostly used qualitative and added quantitative, vice versa in Wonju. Conclusions: Evaluation plan for Healthy city projects need to be made in the first phase of the projects, instead of in the end. Moreover, it is important to include stakeholder in conducting qualitative analysis for unquantifiable evidence of effectiveness, as well as quantitative analysis.

  • Purpose: Celiac disease (CD) is one of the most prevalent food-related illnesses in children, with a global prevalence of approximately 1.4%. CD can create an emotional burden, particularly on mothers, who are mainly responsible for managing challenges related to adherence to a gluten-free diet, high food costs, and food problems in schools and social areas. There is a gap in the literature, and parental experiences of raising children with CD should be explicitly examined. This qualitative study sought to provide insights into the experiences of parents raising a child with CD in the Turkish context. Methods: This study used a descriptive qualitative research methodology and conducted individual semi-structured video-based dyadic interviews with 19 parents. Results: Participants experienced both challenges and motivators through management of their children's CD. Analyses of the interview transcripts through the data uncovered three main themes focusing primarily on parental concerns: (1) parental challenges in child's disease management, (2) supportive care needs, and (3) parental expectations. Conclusion: A multidisciplinary team should approach the child and family immediately after diagnosis, and facilities should support parents with continuing education and psychological, financial, and social assistance.

  • In a decision making process, the ambiguity of qualitative probabilistic expressions may result in a wrong conclusion. For this reason there had been many studies of quantifying qualitative probabilistic expressions in English-speaking countries. In this research, quantification of Korean qualitative probabilistic expressions is conducted through 4-step questionnaires. The numerical data of 78 verbal phrases were collected in the first questionnaire and classified in two categories (i.e., uncertainty and frequency). In each category, qualitative probabilistic expressions were divided into eleven groups according to the similarity of the numerical values. In the second questionnaire, subjects selected a representative expression for each group, which totaled 11. In the third questionnaire each subject was asked to rank eleven expressions from 1 to 11 with 1 indicating the highest probability. At last, subjects conducted pairwise comparisons to obtain relative weights, which are used to convert into the numerical probability scale.

  • For rational human value judgement and evaluation, provision of clear evaluation data, objective value judgement criteria, and properly generalized methods are required. For instance, this is true for software quality evaluation, and the measure of software quality and the weighting method of evaluation target directly affect final decisions. However it is not easy to find a generalized method for the software quality evaluation or product selection, because of its complex characteristics. In this paper, we apply the qualitative preference method based on quantitative belief functions to find a general weighing method for the software quality evaluation. In particular, the qualitative preference method, in which the differentiated preference expression is possible, is conceptually expanded for general applications in future. For this purpose, we hierarchically differentiate the strong preference relation from the weak preference relation, and show an example of quantification of software quality evaluation on different applications, by comparing the qualitative preference method with AHP. We believe that the application domain of this method is not limited to the software quality evaluation and it is very useful to apply this results to other SE areas, e.g., metric selection with different views and riority determination of practices to be assessed in the SPICE.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this qualitative research was to investigate chronically ill patients' perception of hospital nurses. Methods: Individual in-depth interviews and qualitative content analysis were used for data collection and analysis respectively. Participants were 13 chronically ill hospitalized patients or outpatients in three universities hospitals. All interviews were recorded and transcribed verbatim. Data were analyzed using the qualitative content analysis suggested by Graneheim and Lundman (2004). Results: Three themes emerged from the 10 sub-themes, which were categorized from the 21 condensed meaning units by interpreting the underlying meanings. The three themes were "person giving comfort and support by caring", "person facilitating the process of healing", and "person taking the initiative in power relations". Two themes involved positive experiences of patients and the other included negative ones. Conclusion: The results showed that the participants perceived the hospital nurses as devoted to caring for patients and facilitating treatments, but authoritative in performing their duty. Based on these results, it is recommended that hospital nurses improve their nursing knowledge, skills and humanistic attitude.

  • Purpose: In the Fourth Industrial Revolution, nursing education will change in a different way than before. The purpose of this study was to analyze characteristics of qualitative research on learning experiences for nursing students, and to suggest directions for nursing education geared to the needs of the future. Methods: An integrative review method was used. Based on Whittemore & Knafl's approach, five steps were applied. Results: Eleven papers met the selection criteria and had above average ratings in quality appraisals. Three characteristics related to the learning experiences of nursing students were derived: (1) overcoming difficulties in the learning process and concentrating on problem-solving, (2) improving self-efficacy through experiencing achievement in the learning process, (3) establishing nursing professionalism, (4) identifying the importance of self-directed and self-reflected learning, and (5) developing teamwork. Conclusion: This review found that various learning experiences were conducted for practical experience and learner-oriented learning. Nursing students overcame difficulties to achieve their learning outcomes, and developed their professionalism. Further study is required to comprehensively explore research including other countries, and the experiences of instructors.
