  • This paper is on a stereo acoustic echo canceller with the blind signal separation for post processing. The convergence speed of the stereo acoustic echo canceller is deteriorated due to mixing two residual signals which are update signals of each echo canceller. To solve this problem, we are to use the blind signal separation(BSS) method separating the mixed signals after the echo cancellers. The blind signal separation method can extracts the source signals by means of the iterative computations with two input signals. We had verified performances of the proposed acoustic echo canceller for stereo through simulations. The results of simulations show that the acoustic echo canceller for stereo using this algorithm operates stably without divergence in the normal state. And, when the speech signals were inputted, this echo canceller achieved about 2dB higher ERLE with the BSS post processing method than without this method. This stereo echo canceller showed the best performance in the case of inputting the real voice signal.

  • The objective this study is to estimate the feasibility of acoustic emission method for the internal leak from the valves in nuclear power plants. From the experimental results, it was suggested that the acoustic emission method for monitoring of leak was feasible. When the background levels are higher than the acoustic signals from leak, we can detect the leak analyzing the spectrum of the remainders which take the background noise from the acoustic signals.

  • Comparative study was carried out for an acoustic iterative inverse method to estimate bubble size distributions in water. Conventional bubble sizing methods consider only sound attenuation for sizing. Choi and Yoon [IEEE, 26(1), 125-130 (2001)] reported an acoustic iterative inverse method, which extracts the sound speed component from the measured sound attenuation. It can more accurately estimate the bubble size distributions in water than do the conventional methods. The estimation results of acoustic iterative inverse method were compared with other experimental data. The experimental data show good agreement with the estimation from the acoustic iterative inverse method. This iterative technique can be utilized for bubble sizing in the ocean.

  • Acoustic radiation efficiency is a crucial factor to estimate Underwater Radiated Noise (URN) of ships accurately. This paper describes a numerical method to analyse acoustic radiation efficiency of one side-wetted rectangular Mindlin plate with simply supported boundaries excited by a harmonic point force. Transverse displacements of plate and acoustic radiation pressures are evaluated by the mode superposition method. The acoustic radiation efficiencies analyzed by both Mindlin and thin plate theories show little differences at monopole and corner modes of low frequency regions but relatively large differences at edge and critical modes of high frequency regions. Especially, the critical frequency with the highest acoustic radiation efficiency evaluated by the Mindlin plate theory is higher than that of thin plate theory. In addition, the acoustic loading effect of fluid also increases bending wave-number of plate and its critical frequency. Finally, the acoustic radiation characteristics of plates with different aspect ratios and thicknesses through numerical analyses are investigated and discussed.

  • The objective of this study is to understand the generation mechanism of sound and to develop a prediction method for the unsteady flow field and the acoustic pressure field of a centrifugal fan. Lowson's method is used to predict the acoustic pressure in a free field. A DVM(discrete vortex method) is used to model the centrifugal fan and to calculate the flow field. In order to compare the experimental data, a centrifugal fan and wedge introduced by Weidemann are used in the numerical calculation and the results are compared with the experimental data.

  • Switched reluctance drive does exhibit higher levels of vibration and acoustic noise than that of most competing drives. The main source of vibration in the switched reluctance drive is generated by rapid change of radial magnetic force when phase current is extinguished during commutation action. In this paper, some excitation method is proposed to reduce vibration and acoustic noise of the switched reluctance drive. The excitation strategies considered in this research are 1-phase, 2-phase and hybrid excitation method. 1-phase method is a conventional and 2-phase method is excited 2 phases simultaneously. The hybrid excitation has 2-phase excitation by long dwell angle as well as conventional 1-phase excitation. The vibration and acoustic noise are compared and tested. Suggested 2-phase and hybrid strategies reduce acoustic noise because the scheme reduces abrupt change of excitation level by distributed and balanced excitation.

  • In this paper a simple measurement technique for mechanical-acoustic transfer functions is proposed . The mechanical-acoustic transfer functions, generally , are measured through mechanical excitations ; impact hammers or shakers. Recently , by virtue of vibro-acoustical reciprocity principle, they are measured through acoustic excitations : loudspeakers. This kind of test needs to measure the volume velocity , the radiation characteristics of a sound source. Because the volume velocity of the sound source is changed by driving signal , it is difficult to measure it. However , the new method in this paper needs not to measure the volume velocity of a sound source by combination of mechanical and acoustic excitations. Moreover, this method has the methodological advantages, such as usage of a general loudspeaker for the reciprocal excitation, no sptatial limitations for measurements of mechanical-acoustic transfer functions.

  • This paper presents a new framework for integrating untranscribed spoken content into the acoustic training of an automatic speech recognition system. Untranscribed spoken content plays a very important role for under-resourced languages because the production of manually transcribed speech databases still represents a very expensive and time-consuming task. We proposed two new methods as part of the training framework. The first method focuses on combining initial acoustic models using a data-driven metric. The second method proposes an improved acoustic training procedure based on unsupervised transcriptions, in which word endings were modified by broad phonetic classes. The training framework was applied to baseline acoustic models using untranscribed spoken content from parliamentary debates. We include three types of acoustic models in the evaluation: baseline, reference content, and framework content models. The best overall result of 18.02% word error rate was achieved with the third type. This result demonstrates statistically significant improvement over the baseline and reference acoustic models.

  • The present article discusses about the measurement techniques of acoustic impedance that becomes one of the important acoustic characteristics of various boundaries found inside of propulsion systems. Acoustic characteristics including acoustic impedance and reflection coefficient can be often assessed and estimated by use of the two-microphone method. Theoretical expressions of acoustic impedance and reflection coefficient measured in an impedance tube are presented for both cases with mean flow and without flow, and the practical application of the method through calibration is also provided. The acoustic impedance and the reflection coefficient are related with axial locations of microphones, thermodynamic characteristics of gas inside, and the transfer function between the pressure wave measurements at multiple locations.

  • In this study, the validity of the acoustic impedance model and the estimation model by electro-acoustic analogy suggested by Maa for predicting the absorptive performance of multiple layer perforated plate systems is investigated. From the comparison between the experiment and calculation for the absorption performance of double layer perforated plate system, the calculated results of using Rao and Munjal's impedance model and transfer matrix method are closer to the experimental values than those of using Maa's impedance model and electro-acoustic analogy. Therefore, in order to apply the acoustic impedance model and the estimation model by electro-acoustic analogy suggested by Maa to the multiple layer perforated plate systems, it is necessary that the suggested acoustic impedance and estimation models should be re-examined.
