Noninformative Priors for Step Stress Accelerated Life Tests in Exponential Distribution

  • This paper deals with noninformative priors for such as Jeffres' prior, reference prior and probability matching prior for scale parameter of exponential distribution when the data are collected in multiple step stress accelerated life tests. We find the noninformative priors for this model and show that the reference prior satisfies first order matching criterion. Using artificial data, we perform Bayesian analysis for proposed priors.

독립현가형 AWD 차량의 구동축 가속 수명 평가에 관한 연구 (A Study on the Accelerated Life Evaluation of Drive Shaft for Independent Suspension type AWD Vehicle)

  • This paper proposes an accelerated life evaluation of drive shaft. The life test of drive shaft for independent suspension type AWD vehicle should be performed by use of the least test sample because many number of samples can't be used for the test because of its mass capacity and high price. We calculated the no failure test time by application of no failure test concept, and the already performed test data for drive shaft are applied for some kinds of reliability coefficients which are needed for calculation of life test time. And, for analysis of real driving condition of vehicle, the load spectrum is prepared using the needed road condition and vehicle data. The inverse power model is used for accelerated life test. The equivalent torque of load spectrum is achieved by use of Miner's Rule, and then the final accelerating condition is determined by decision of the accelerated test torque. This paper shows that the accelerated life test results corresponds with the target life and the proposed life test method can be very well applied to no failure life test for mass capacity machinery components.

소형 계전기에 대한 가속수명시험 설계 및 분석 (Design and Analysis of Accelerated Life Tests (ALT) for Small Power Relays)

  • Accelerated life test models and procedures are developed to assess the reliability of typical power relays. The main function of relays is to control high voltage circuits by operating low voltage circuits. The accelerated life test method and test equipments are developed using the relationship between stresses and life characteristics of the products. Using the developed accelerated life test method, the parameters of the ALT model and lifetime distribution are estimated and the reliability of the relays at use condition is assessed. The proposed accelerated life test method and procedure may be extended and applied to testing similar kinds of products to reduce test time and costs of the tests remarkably.

  • Life tests are essential in reducing the catastrophic damage caused by the accidents of large machinery such as aircraft and ships. However, life tests are challenging to implement due to the high costs and time required to test the life of large machinery parts. Therefore, it is advantageous and convenient to apply accelerated life test techniques for key components to reduce costs and time. In fact, extensive research has already been conducted on these techniques. However, recently, there have been cases in which an experimental value was applied to the shape parameter of the Weibull distribution used in the reliability test, but the test time was not significantly reduced. Therefore, in this paper, the shape parameters are estimated from the probability density function of the Weibull distribution for the analysis of an accelerated life test for bladder accumulators, which are core components of military helicopters. The test time was derived based on the number of samples and confidence level by substituting it into the test time equation. Next, the accelerated life test time was calculated using the steady-state test time with an acceleration factor obtained from the Arrhenius model. The steady-state life test required approximately 15,000 H, whereas the accelerated life test time for one sample at 100 ℃ was 34% shorter than that of the steady-state life test.

  • Purpose : This paper is a comparative analysis results of the fatigue test for dental implants and accelerated life test by using a static type loading device commonly used in Korea and a dynamic type loading device (universal-joint) recommended by FDA. Methods : Fatigue tests of dental implant is based on ISO 14801 and classified into static load test and dynamic load test. The tests were carried out on three test specimens by four load stress steps under each loading device. For analysis on failure mode such as crack, fracture and permanent deformation of test specimens, we used X-ray three-dimensional computed tomography on test specimens before and after the fatigue tests. The design of the accelerated life test was based on the analysis results of the fatigue life data obtained from the dynamic load test and the statistical analysis software (Minitab ver.15) was used to analyze the appropriate life distribution. Results : As a result of the fatigue tests and the accelerated life tests at same acceleration condition under each test method, the fatigue life under the dynamic type loading device (universal-joint) was shorter than when static type loading device was applied. Conclusion : This paper can be used as a reference when the universal-joint type loading device for implants fatigue test is applied as ISO 14801.

Predicting Shelf-life of Ice Cream by Accelerated Conditions

  • Shelf-life is defined as the amount of time during which a food product retains its desired sensory, chemical, and physical characteristics while remaining safe for consumption. The food industry needs to rapidly obtain the necessary information for determining the shelf life of its products. Here we studied the approaches available for conducting accelerated shelf-life tests. Accelerated shelf-life testing is applied to a variety of products to rapidly estimate change in characteristics with time. The aim of this work was to use accelerated shelf-life testing to study the changes in pH, microbiology, and sensory characteristics of ice cream by the application of a kinetic approach and, based on the observations, to estimate its shelf life. As per the current law, there is no shelf life on ice cream. Our results suggest that the shelf life of an ice cream sample was 24.27 months at $-18^{\circ}C$, 2.29 months at $-6^{\circ}C$, 0.39 months at $-1^{\circ}C$, and 0.15 months at $4^{\circ}C$. Results of this study suggest that a set expiration date on ice cream might also contribute to effective management of ice cream characteristics in the retail chilled chain.

  • Pneumatic cylinder is widely used as key component of various industry fields just like automation production line. Recently, people begin to pay attention to reduce development period and cost of pneumatic cylinder so research requirements of accelerated life test of pneumatic cylinder have been increased more than ever. In this research, we shall evaluate availability of acceleration model by statistical analysis of acceleration model's predicted value and life data which acquired in a real operation condition after finish accelerated life test of pneumatic cylinder. Also to predict the life of pneumatic cylinder in the operation condition we shall develop new acceleration model equations.

  • The computer program for the accelerated life testing technique of a machine part under the service conditions is developed under the GUI environment so that the user can easily obtain the results by selecting the program module. Also, the theoretical backgrounds for the computer program and the procedures of the accelerated testing method are introduced by testing the specimens made of the stainless steel 316L under the high temperature and random loading. The reliability of the program is discussed by the experimental results of the fatigue life, age degradation and accelerated testing conditions.

텅스텐 백열전구의 필라멘트 단선에 대한 가속수명시험 (An Accelerated Life Test for Burnout of Tungsten Filament of Incandescent Lamp)

  • This paper presents an accelerated life test for burnout of tungsten filament of incandescent lamp. From failure analyses of field samples, it is shown that their root causes are local heating or hot spots in the filament caused by tungsten evaporation and wire sag. Finite element analysis is performed to evaluate the effect of vibration and impact for burnout, but any points of stress concentration or structural weakness are not found in the sample. To estimate the burnout life of lamp, an accelerated life test is planned by using quality function deployment and fractional factorial design, where voltage, vibration, and temperature are selected as accelerating variables. We assumed that Weibull lifetime distribution and a generalized linear model of life-stress relationship hold through goodness of fit test and test for common shape parameter of the distribution. Using accelerated life testing software, we estimated the common shape parameter of Weibull distribution, life-stress relationship, and accelerating factor.

  • This paper considers noninformative priors for the scale parameter of exponential distribution when the data are collected in step stress accelerated life tests. We find the Jeffreys' and reference priors for this model and show that the reference prior satisfies first order matching criterion. Also, we show that there exists no second order matching prior in this problem. Some simulation results are given and we perform Bayesian analysis for proposed priors using some data.
