A Proposal for the Definition of Insider (Threat) and Mitigation for the Korea Military Environment (한국군 환경에 적합한 내부자(위협) 정의 및 완화방안 제안)

  • Insider threats in the field of information security are so important that the research is continuing centering on the institutes attached to the Carnegie Mellon University. On the other hand, we do not have any separate research institutes. In particular, insider threat research on the defense IT environment directly connected with the survival of the country is not proceeding in depth. In addition, due to the specificity of the military, defense IT security has limited research as an academic discipline, and even the establishment of concepts has not been achieved properly. In addition, because of differences in the environment, the US standard can not be borrowed as it is. This paper analyzes the defense IT environment and defines an insider (threat) suitable for the Korea military environment. I'd like to suggest the type of insider threat and how to mitigate it.

Knowledge Trend Analysis of Uncertainty in Biomedical Scientific Literature (생의학 학술 문헌의 불확실성 기반 지식 동향 분석에 관한 연구)

  • Uncertainty means incomplete stages of knowledge of propositions due to the lack of consensus of information and existing knowledge. As the amount of academic literature increases exponentially over time, new knowledge is discovered as research develops. Although the flow of time may be an important factor to identify patterns of uncertainty in scientific knowledge, existing studies have only identified the nature of uncertainty based on the frequency in a particular discipline, and they did not take into consideration of the flow of time. Therefore, in this study, we identify and analyze the uncertainty words that indicate uncertainty in the scientific literature and investigate the stream of knowledge. We examine the pattern of biomedical knowledge such as representative entity pairs, predicate types, and entities over time. We also perform the significance testing using linear regression analysis. Seven pairs out of 17 entity pairs show the significant decrease pattern statistically and all 10 representative predicates decrease significantly over time. We analyze the relative importance of representative entities by year and identify entities that display a significant rising and falling pattern.

Evaluation of SCI for Basic Research Programs in Science and Technology Measured at the Quality Level of Individual Articles (개별 논문의 질적 수준에서 측정한 과학기술분야 기초연구사업의 SCI 성과 분석)

  • In Korea, there is a high demand for the operation of differentiated programs in basic research considering the characteristics of academic fields. The results of this study shows that the higher the level of research competence, the higher the quality of research outputs. The results also tell us that the quality level of the research outputs is different according to the field of study. Based on the results, we propose a method to differentiate the selection rate of each discipline in the system that operates the individual basic research projects by the level of research capacity.

A Case Study of the Curriculum of Data Science for Elementary School Teachers (초등교사 대상의 기초 데이터 과학 교육의 사례 연구)

  • Data science is a discipline comprised of the academic fields of statistics, computer science, information technology, and domain knowledge. It analyzes data and derives meaningful results using complex technologies. Data science, along with artificial intelligence, is a core technology of the 4th industrial revolution; consequently, universities and companies worldwide are actively developing programs to develop data scientists who require high levels of expertise. In line with this undertaking, the field of elementary education has recognized the importance of data science education and so various studies have been conducted to develop curricula designed to help students understand how to use data. This paper proposes a curriculum for the purpose of educating elementary school teachers who are mostly non-majors in the computer field about data science. Satisfaction analysis was conducted based on questionnaires collected from students to analyze the effectiveness of the data science education proposed in this paper.

The Development of Nursing Education Model and The Instrument for Improving Clinical Competence (실무수행능력 중심의 교육모형 및 측정도구 개발)

  • The revolution of nursing curriculum has been focused on clinical competency for nursing graduates to flexibly respond to changes in societal health needs and disciplinary requirements. In this trend, the study was designed to identify basic concepts of nursing education that reflects the changes in societal needs and nursing discipline, and to develop the instrument to measure performance level in each dimension of clinical competency. The study was conducted in two phases. In phase 1, principal concepts consisted of nursing education were determined through literature review as well as series of discussion sessions on nursing philosophies and educational objectives among researchers. Though the process, the conceptual framework of competency based nursing curriculum was constructed with nursing process and professional role as horizontal threads, client, health needs, and nursing interventions as vertical threads. Then, items were developed to represent each dimension of competency : client and health need, nursing process, professional role, and nursing interventions. The total of 273 items were included as to represent clinical competency required for BSN graduates. In phase 2, questionnaires were distributed to nursing faculties of 41 BSN programs to validate the 273-item Instrument developed to measure competency. The total of 34 subjects returned the questionnaire with 81% of response rates. The subjects of the study had an average of 42 months of clinical experience and 13 years of education experience in various nursing areas with an age range of 30 to 52 years. The data were analyzed by utilizing SPSSWIN and the results are as follows. 1) The mean score of the nursing process dimension was supported most with the mean of 3.60(SD=0.32) compared to client and health need dimension(M=3.49, SD=.40), professional role(M=3.41, SD=.44), and nursing interventions(M=3.57, SD=.34). 2) The dimensions of competency were moderately correlated to each other with a range of r=.433 to r=.829, confirming that four dimensions of competency were related but distinct concepts. 3) The items of each dimension were analyzed based on its appropriateness. 'Assessing risk factors of the clients' were most highly supported in client and health need dimension. Most items of nursing process dimension were considered appropriate, while items related to efficient communication were well supported in professional role dimension. In nursing intervention dimension, items on basic nursing skills were highly supported while items on specific nursing interventions such as music therapy or art therapy were considered relatively inappropriate to competency for BSN graduates. The findings clearly showed that the current nursing education more emphasizes nursing interventions based on nursing process than other dimensions of competency. There is a need to reconceptualize nursing curriculum that is able to reflect more of nursing professional role and client/health need dimensions. Further research to validate the instrument by confirming competency dimensions of nursing graduates who are currently working at the hospital has been suggested.

THE PSYCHOSOCIAL CHARACTERISTICS OF ADOLESCENT DRUG USER (약물사용 청소년의 심리-사회적 특성)

  • This study intended to investigate the characteristics of adolescent drug user in Korea. A questionnaire on adolescent drug use was administered to 1st or 2nd grade 898 students (465 males, 433 females) from 9 senior high schools in Seoul area. The extent of current using six representative drugs such as cigarettes, alcohol, chemical substance inducing hallucination(e,g., thinner, bond etc.), psychostimulant, hypnotic and minor tranqulizer was self-reported. Also their psychological distress, self-concept and individual-related variables such as academic grade, deviant behavior, drug-using peers, the perceived availability of drugs, the degree of family discipline, and the perceived parents' attitude for drinking and smoking were surveyed. Subjects were grouped into six(male) or five(female) subgroups (nonuser, simple experiencer, one kind of drug user, two kinds of drugs user, three kinds of drugs user(male only), minor tranqulizer user) to their extent of drug use. Then ANOVA procedure performed for group comparison of their psychological distress, self-concept and individual-related variables. The results showed that the most popular drugs among adolescents in Korea were cigarettes and alcohol. Minor tranqulizer was used by about 2.8% of male and 7.41% of female subjects. In general abusers showed lower academic grade, more deviant experiences, having more drug-using peers, higher degree of psychological distress, and lower postitive self-concept than nonuser group. According to the results of discriminant analysis, hostility and deviant behavior were reliable predictive variables that distinguished abuser group from nonuser group among the associated variables in this study. These results suggest that some common factors affect drug use of Korean high school students : high school students who have many common risk factors could be abusers more easily. These findings supported risk factor theory that the extent of drug use of adolescents might be associated with general maladjustment in everyday life.

A Study on Perceived Family Support and the Quality of Life in the Elderly (노인의 가족지지와 삶의 질)

  • In modern society, the human average life span has been prolonged due to medical benefits and changes in society, which results in the rapid and world -wide increase in the population of elderly. Consequently, the field of nursing science, as well as the field of many other discipline, has shown increasing interests in issues on the elderly. In addition, to improve the quality of life for elderiy people a great deal of effort has been made. The purpose of our study is to analyze the correlation between family support and quality of life in order to develop basic data for nursing interventions to maintain life satisfaction of the elderly. The sample consists of 108 subjects residing at home whose ages are over 65 years old. The data has been collected, from November 11, 1996 to November 23, 1996, through interviewing the elderly using a questionnarie. For the family supoort we used two: 1) the 5 - point Likert scale questionnarie developed by Gallo and Warren (Family support I) and 2) the 5-point Likert scale developed by H. S. Kang(Family support II), and for the quality of life we used the 3 - point likert scale questionnarie developed by Choi, Young Hee. For data analysis we used percentages, means, Pearson Correlation Coefficient and ANOVA. The results of our study are as follows: 1. For perceived family support I & II, the minimum score is 12 & 19, the maximum score is 32 & 46, the mean score is 24.49 & 34.90, respectively. 2. For Quality of life, the minimum score is 13, the maximum score is 39, the mean score is 28.61. 3. there is a very strong correlation between the perceived family support of the subjects and Quality of life (for I r=0.35047, p<.001 and for II r= 0.60558, p<.001). 4. The relationship between the general characteristics of the elderly and our two variables. family support and Quality of life, is as follows: 1) According to age(for II F=5.32, p<.01), the amount of monthly pocket money(for II F= 3.52, p<.05), inmate(for I F=2.93, p<.05, for II F=2.84, p<.05), economics(for I F=8.99, p<.01. for II F=7.51. p<.01), supporter(for I F=4.01. p<.01. for II F=3.43, p<.01), there is a statistically significant difference in family support. 2) According to the amount of monthly pocket money(F=6.69, p<.01), inmate(F=2.24, p<.05), economics(F=15.38, p<.01), there is a statistically significant difference in Quality of life. In conclusion, it can be said that the family support is an important variable to the Quality of the elderly life.

An Analysis of Nursing Research related to the Mother-Child Interaction in Korea (모아상호작용 관련 간호연구 분석)

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to identified patterns and trend of studies and to analyzed the nursing research related to the mother-child interaction in Korea and to improve direction of nursing research in mother-child interaction in Korea. Method: The research studies related to the mother-child interaction were selected from the Korean Nurses Academic Society Journal, and from dissertation, which were conducted between 1961 and 2002 with the consideration of the condition and the cultural specialty of Korea. The total numbers of the studies were 34. These studies were classified according to 1)time of publication or presentation, 2)research design, 3)type of interaction objects, 4)measurement tool, and 5)chief content of studies. Ressult: 1) Until 1984, there was no research studies related to mother-child interaction. The number of studies on the mother-child interaction on the mother-child interaction has been increased rapidly after 1985. The mother-child interaction studies were 13(38.2%) from the doctoral dissertation, 4(11.8%) from the Master's theses and 17(50%) other papers were published in academic journals. 2) Experimental studies of research design was used in these research studies was 13(38.2%). Descriptive studies was 8(23.6%), correlational studies was 4(11.8%) and comparative studies was 4(11.8%). Qualitative study was just one(2.9%) and literature review was 4(11.8%). Especially experimental studies has been increased. 3) Participants of these studies were mother and infant 29(85.5%), father and infant 2(5.9%), mother and fetus 2(5.9%) and nurse and infant 1(2.9%) 4) Utilization of instruments as follows: 13 studies used Walker et al(1986)'s MIPIS (Mother-Infant Play Interaction Scale), 6 studies used Barnard(1978)'s NCAFS (Nursing Child Assessment Feeding Scale), 4 studies used NCATS(Nursing child Assessment Teaching Scale) for assessing mother-infant interaction. 3 studies used Stainton(1981)'s Parent-Infant Interaction Scale. Choi(1987), Kim(1999) and Kim and Son(1997) used measurement tool researcher made which was modified from NCATS (Nursing child Assessment Teaching Scale) and AMIS(Assessment of Mother-Infant Sensitivity Scale). Other tools used to survey influencing factors of interaction. 5) Content of the research studies were classified 3 different types, such as ① studies about the mother-child interactions' pattern, ② studies about influencing factors of the mother-child interaction, ③ studies about effect of nursing intervention program to improve the mother-child interaction. Conclusion: Therefore we make following suggestions which are made based on the above research analysis : 1) In the future research studies need to compare with other area of discipline in mother-child interaction. 2) More attention and in depth research is needed to validate in terms of research design and statistical data analysis. 3) It is important to develop the instruments which is culturally acceptable in Korea society. 4) The results of correlational studies and experimental studies needs to the integrated by meta analysis.

  • The rapid changes in graduate nursing curriculum have resulted in many challenges to the contents in masters and doctoral program of nursing. In order to meet the changing consumer demand, to respond the specialization in clinical practice and to reflect the evolving trend in the discipline and science of nursing, this study focussed on analyzing the present graduate nursing curriculum of one college of nursing in Seoul, Korea. In order to analyze the present curriculum, data were collected by survey from the enrolled graduate students, And curriculum contents of 10 graduate nursing curricula in Korea and 6 in United States were analyzed through internet information. Based on the data from the enrolled students' responses on educational goal and objectives and divisions of nursing and the data from the graduate curriculums of other universities both in Korea and United States suggested the future direction of graduate nursing curriculum of S university as follows; It is required that theoretical development, as well as education of enhancing clinical competences and preparation of specialization, innovative work for the change and global nursing should be included in the curriculum. Majority of respondents were agreed with 6 division of nursing(Adult nursing ,Maternity nursing ,Pediatric nursing, Community nursing, Nursing administration) and the integration of nurse clinical specialist course(such as oncology nursing specialist) into the regular courses in Master and Doctorate program was required.

Physicians' Knowledge about Hereditary Breast Cancer in South Korea (국내 임상 의사의 유전성 유방암에 대한 지식도)

  • Background: Cancer genetics have gained public attention dramatically. Everyday physicians and nurses use the knowledge of cancer genetics in their practices. Despite the importance of the knowledge of the health care providers on cancer genetics, there is a paucity of literature investigating the levels of knowledge about cancer genetics among health care providers. Purpose: This study aimed to describe the Korean physicians' current knowledge level about hereditary breast and ovarian cancer (HBOC). Method: This nation-wide survey used a 15-item questionnaire which is modified from the Breast Cancer Genetic Counseling Knowledge Questionnaire originally developed by Erblich et al.(2005). One hundred and forty-four physicians participated in this survey from October 1, 2006 to March 31, 2007. Result: Physicians' knowledge level about hereditary breast cancer was 11.94 (S.D=2.46). Physicians with short-term careers (less than one year), the position of Intern, or who were involved in breast or ovarian cancer care demonstrated the highest knowledge about HBOC. Conclusion: Genetic courses in medical education seemed to contribute to the high level of physicians' genetic knowledge. Also, nursing discipline needs to incorporate genetics or genetic counseling courses into the formal educational curriculum in order to deliver up to date cancer care services which are sensitive to ever-changing cancer genetic information.
