The target echoes contain information on the target such as the orientation, kinematics, and internal structure, as well as the external geometrical shape of the target. In addition, the pattern of the target echoes depends on the arrangement of the transmitters and receivers in space. Therefore, the study of the target echoes in a multi-static SONAR system can be useful for detecting and tracking submerged objects using an underwater surveillance system. For this purpose, an acoustic measuring system for multi-static target echoes was designed and tested in an acoustic water tank. Some preliminary data are presented and discussed.

In this paper, we propose an adaptive multi-target estimation algorithm using the characteristics of signals in the IR-UWB(Impulse-Radio Ultra Wideband) radar system, which is attracting attention because it has good transparency, robustness to the indoor environment, and high precision positioning of tens of centimeters. We proposed an algorithm that estimates multiple peaks with the characteristic that the signal reflected by the target has a peak. To verify the performance of these algorithms, multiple targets were placed in front of the radar and the existing technique and the multi - target estimation algorithm were compared. The location of the targets is estimated in real time with one transmitting antenna and one receiving antenna. The number of estimates can be increased compared with the existing peak signal derivation method, and multiple targets can be derived. The conventional technique estimates only one target, which results in a mean square error of 1 while a multi - target estimation algorithm yields a result of about 0.05. The proposed method is expected to be able to apply multiple targets to the estimation and application in one IR-UWB module environment.

For general target tracking works by receiving a set of measurements from sensor. However, if the SNR(Signal to Noise Ratio) is low due to small RCS(Radar Cross Section), caused by remote small targets, the target's information can be lost during signal processing. TBD(Track Before Detect) is an algorithm that performs target tracking without threshold for detection. That is, all sensor data is sent to the tracking system, which prevents the loss of the target's information by thresholding the signal intensity. On the other hand, using all sensor data inevitably leads to computational problems that can severely limit the application. In this paper, we propose an iterative Joint Integrated Probabilistic Data Association as a practical target tracking technique suitable for a low SNR multi-target environment with real time operation capability, and verify its performance through simulation studies.

Target Motion Analysis(TMA) means to detect target position, velocity and course for using passive sonar system with bearing-only measurement. In this paper, we apply the TMA algorithm for a submarine with Multi-Sensor Data Fusion(MSDF) and we will decide the best TMA algorithm for a submarine by a series of computer simulation runs.
As a sub-system of an air traffic control system, SDP(Surveillance Data Processor) provides with the system tracks of aircraft using the surveillance sensor data from various air traffic surveillance sensors, such as radars. Therefore, the high accuracy of tracking results is a crucial requirement for safe flights, and verification of the required system performance of SDP is an essential step in development. Moreover, the quantitative evaluation of target tracking accuracy is important for newly developed SDP, since there are several tracking methods for Multi-Sensor Multi-Target Tracking, such as MRT(Multi Radar Tracking), inevitably required as the main function of SDP. In this study, definition of required system performances, establishment of test environment, and test results for MRT performance evaluation of SDP, which is being developed in KARI(Korea Airspace Research Institute) are presented.

In the conventional track while scan (TWS) system, there are two major functions to be performed : detection and tracking. These two functions are normally designed and optimised independently. So TWS algorithm ignores the available decision features that can help in resolving the plot-to-track association ambiguity. Therefore conventional TWS system cna't track the targets in a densed multi-target environment. This paper presents a new TWS algorithm for multi-target track to solve the existing TWS system problem in clutter environment. The algorithm proposed in this paper is derived by modifying the part of joint probabilistic data association (JPDA) algotithm to get the one to one correspondence instead of multiple correspondence and combined with maneuvering detection logic so that it could also track the low maneuvering targets. Simulations to confirm the performance are done in crossing, parallel and maneuvering target. The proposed algorithm was successfully tracking targets above target situations.

The first 77 GHz transceiver that applies a heterodyne structure-based linear frequency modulation-frequency shift keying (LFM-FSK) front-end module (FEM) is presented. An LFM-FSK waveform generator is proposed for the transceiver design to avoid ghost target detection in a multi-target environment. This FEM consists of three parts: a frequency synthesizer, a 77 GHz up/down converter, and a baseband block. The purpose of the FEM is to make an appropriate beat frequency, which will be the key to solving problems in the digital signal processor (DSP). This paper mainly focuses on the most challenging tasks, including generating and conveying the correct transmission waveform in the 77 GHz frequency band to the DSP. A synthesizer test confirmed that the developed module for the signal generator of the LFM-FSK can produce an adequate transmission signal. Additionally, a loop back test confirmed that the output frequency of this module works well. This development will contribute to future progress in integrating a radar module for multi-target detection. By using the LFM-FSK waveform method, this radar transceiver is expected to provide multi-target detection, in contrast to the existing method.
Generally, in the underwater target recognition, feature vectors are extracted from the target signal utilizing spatial information according to target shape/material characteristics. In addition, various signal processing techniques have been studied to extract feature vectors which are less sensitive to the location of the receiver. In this paper, we synthesized active echo signals using 3-dimensional highlight distribution. Then, Fractional Fourier transform was applied to echo signals to extract signal features. For the performance verification, classification experiments were performed using backpropagation and probabilistic neural network classifiers based on single aspect and multi-aspect method. As a result, we obtained a better recognition result using proposed feature extraction and multi-aspect based method.

Multi-target away signal simulator which can simulate the radiated noises of maneuvering targets in a specified ocean range is an essential equipment for the validation of developed towed array sonar system. This simulator should provide realistic multi-channel signals those are required for beamforming on the signal processing unit of towed away system. This paper describes the overall system configuration and signal synthesis techniques for the target radiated noise. And this paper considers why the time delays between target and individual sensors are caused and how to compensate these time delays to individual sensors output. This multi-purpose target simulator could be used for the training of TASS operators.

In this paper, we propose the technique to detect the location and size of the small target in multi-resolution image using cubic facet model. The input image is reduced by the multi-resolution and we obtain the multi-resolution images. We apply the facet model and the local maxima conditions to the multi-resolution images of each level. And then, we detect the location of the small target. We estimate that the location at the maximum of the $D_2$ which means the local maxima value of the facet model in the multi-resolution images is the location of the small target. We can detect the small target of the various size about the multi-resolution images of each level. In this paper, we experimented in the various infrared images with the small target. The method using the typical facet model applies a mask. However, the proposed method applies a mask in the multi-resolution images. We verified to vary the mask size and differ the size of the small target. The proposed algorithm can detect the location and size of the small target.
