휴대폰에서의 홍채인식 연구

  • 최근 휴대폰에서 개인 정보 보안의 중요성이 대두되고 있으며, 이에 따라 생체인식 기능을 내장한 휴대폰에 관심이 집중되고 있으므로, 본 논문에서는 휴대용 기기에 홍채인식기술을 적용하기 위한 방법을 제안하고 하다. 기존의 홍채인식 알고리즘은 인식을 위해 확대된 홍채영상을 사용하여 처리하였고, 이러한 홍채영상을 획득하기 위해서 고 배율의 줌 렌즈(zoom lens)와 초점 렌즈(focus lens)를 사용하였다. 그런데, 휴대폰에서의 홍채인식을 시도하기 위해 줌렌즈와 초점렌즈를 장착하게 되면 가격이 상승하고 부피가 증가되어, 작고 휴대하기 편리한 휴대폰의 특징에 맞지 않아 사용하기 어려운 문제가 있다. 그러나 최근 휴대폰의 멀티미디어 기기 융복합 추세로 인해 휴대폰 내에 장착된 메가 픽셀 카메라(Mega-pixel Camera)의 성능이 급속히 발전함에 따라, 고 배율의 줌, 초점 렌즈 없이도 확대된 홍채영상의 획득이 가능하게 되었다. 즉, 메가 픽셀 카메라 폰을 사용하여 사용자로부터 원거리에서 취득한 얼굴영상에서 홍채 영역이 홍채인식을 위해 충분한 픽셀정보를 가지게 된다. 그러나 이러한 경우 입력 얼굴영상에서 눈 영역을 먼저 찾는 과정이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 이러한 얼굴영상에서 각막에 의해 반사되는 조명 반사광을 기반으로 휴대폰에서의 홍채인식을 위한 고속 동공검출 방법을 제안한다. 또한 입력 영상 신호를 디지털 신호로 변환하는 과정에서 밝기와 대조 값을 조정하여 동공의 검은 영역과 조명 밝은 반사 위치를 추출함으로써, 정확한 홍채 영역을 보다 빠르고 쉽게 추출할 수 있는 방법 역시 제안한다. 그리고 일반적으로 휴대폰에서 홍채 인식의 경우 손으로 들고 사용하므로, 손 흔들림에 의한 영상 흐림 현상이 빈번하게 발생하게 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하기 위하여 본 연구에서는 영상 복원 기법을 적용하여 흐려진 홍채 영상을 복원하는 기법을 제안한다. 마지막으로, 휴대폰의 경우 실외에서 사용이 빈번함으로, 입력 홍채 영상에서 태양광에 의한 영향을 많이 받게 된다. 이러한 문제를 해결하여 홍채 인식 성능을 개선할 수 있는 방법 역시 소개하고자 한다.

Possibility of applying unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV) and mapping software for the monitoring of waterbirds and their habitats

  • Background: Conventional bird observation methods are line survey or point count method by bare eyes or through binoculars or telescopes. But in this study, the possibility of monitoring waterbirds using drones beyond the conventional research methods was explored. It also describes the direction of producing and accumulating images of waterbird habitats as a method to efficiently determine changes in waterbird habitats. Results: From the study, it was concluded that waterbird monitoring using drones was a new monitoring technique which could be applied to the field and 26 kinds of waterbirds were observed. In the case of a drone with a single lens, it was difficult to identify objects because the size of the subject was too small at a certain altitude. In this case, zoom lens can be an alternative. It has also been verified that image analysis software can be used to accumulate images of waterbird habitats. Conclusions: If various kinds of advanced drones and cameras are used, it would be possible to monitor larger areas including the areas that are difficult for human access and to observe more waterbirds and wider habitats.

  • As DLC coating possesses such features as, high hardness, high elasticity, abrasion resistance and chemical stability, there have been exerted continuous efforts in research works in a variety of fields, and this technology has also been applied widely to industrial areas. In this research work, the optimal grinding condition was identified using Microlens Process Machine in order to contribute to the development of aspheric glass which is to be used for mobile phone module having 2 megapixel and $2.5{\times}$ zoom, and mold core (WC) was manufactured having performed ultra-precision machining and effects of DLC coating on shape accuracy(P-V) of mold core and surface roughness(Ra) as well were measured and evaluated.

Athermalization and Narcissus Analysis of Mid-IR Dual-FOV IR Optics (이중 시야 중적외선 광학계 비열화·나르시서스 분석)

  • We have designed a mid-infrared optical system for an airborne electro-optical targeting system. The mid-IR optical system is a dual-field-of-view (FOV) optics for an airborne electro-optical targeting system. The optics consists of a beam-reducer, a zoom lens group, a relay lens group, a cold stop conjugation optics, and an IR detector. The IR detector is an f/5.3 cooled detector with a resolution of $1280{\times}1024$ square pixels, with a pixel size of $15{\times}15{\mu}m$. The optics provides two stepwise FOVs ($1.50^{\circ}{\times}1.20^{\circ}$ and $5.40^{\circ}{\times}4.23^{\circ}$) by the insertion of two lenses into the zoom lens group. The IR optical system was designed in such a way that the working f-number (f/5.3) of the cold stop internally provided by the IR detector is maintained over the entire FOV when changing the zoom. We performed two analyses to investigate thermal effects on the image quality: athermalization analysis and Narcissus analysis. Athermalization analysis investigated the image focus shift and residual high-order wavefront aberrations as the working temperature changes from $-55^{\circ}C$ to $50^{\circ}C$. We first identified the best compensator for the thermal focus drift, using the Zernike polynomial decomposition method. With the selected compensator, the optics was shown to maintain the on-axis MTF at the Nyquist frequency of the detector over 10%, throughout the temperature range. Narcissus analysis investigated the existence of the thermal ghost images of the cold detector formed by the optics itself, which is quantified by the Narcissus Induced Temperature Difference (NITD). The reported design was shown to have an NITD of less than $1.5^{\circ}C$.

Optical Properties of Aspheric Glass Lens using DLC Coated Molding Core (성형용 코어면 DLC 코팅에 의한 비구면 Glass렌즈 광학적 특성에 관한 연구)

  • In this research, the optimal grinding condition has been obtained by design of experiment (DOE) fur the development of aspheric lens for the 3 Mega Pixel, 2.5x optical zoom camera-phone module. Also, the tungsten carbide (WC) mold was processed by the method of ultra precision grinding under this optimal grinding condition. The influence of diamond-liked carbon (DLC) coating on form accuracy (PV) and surface roughness (Ra) of the mold was evaluated through measurements after DCL coating using ion plating on the ground mold. Also, aspheric glass lenses were molded, some before DLC coating of the mold and some after the DLC coating. The optical characteristics of each sample, molded by the different molds, were compared with each other.

Development of Shape Determination Program for Suspension Bridge Using Digital Image Processing (디지털 화상처리기법을 이용한 현수교의 형상결정기법 개발)

  • In this paper, it is presented a digital image processing method and the program (Visual C++) to determine the shape of the suspension bridge. To investigate the precision of this method, a suspension bridge is divided into 5, 13 and 19 images, respectively, by using the 6.3M pixels digital camera with 300mm zoom lens. Obtained results of the Kwang-Ahn Grand Bridge by using this method are fairly close to the real precision surveyed data. The accuracy is more improved by increasing the number of divided images of the structure. The total cost, man power and time of field survey by this method presented in this study could be much more reduced and the developed program could be applied with little modification for other structures like cable-stayed bridges, if lens compensation algorithms and program access capabilities are improved.

  • In order to inspect burr geometry and hole quality in micro-drilling processes, a cost-effective method using an image processing and shape from focus (SFF) methods on the machine tool is proposed. A CCD camera with a zoom lens and a novel illumination unit is used in this paper. Since the on-machine vision unit is incorporated with the CNC function of the machine tool, direct measurement and condition monitoring of micro-drilling processes are conducted between drilling processes on the machine tool. Stainless steel and hardened tool steel are used as specimens, as well as twist drills made of carbide are used in experiments. Validity of the developed system is confirmed through experiments.

  • A new dimension measuring method for the measurement of diameter of an object has been developed using laser triangulation. The 3-D data of an object was calculated from the 2dimensional image information obtained by the laser stripe using the laser triangulation. The system can measure the diameter of hole not only in a normal plane but also in an incline plane. We can experiment with magnification that is optimized according to size of object using zoom lens. In this paper, the theoretical formula and calibration of the system were described. The measuring precision of the system was investigated by experiment.

  • A remote controlled mobile robot system has been developed and tested to monitor the radiation area in the nuclear power plant. The mobile robot system operates according to car-driving-like commands and is capable of radiation measurement and visual inspection in unmanned situations under radiation. The robot system is equipped with a radiation sensor and two cameras with appropriate illumination set-ups. The camera with auto-focus function and 8-times zoom lens is mounted on the pan/tilt rotational base and the other is mounted on the front panel of the robot system. All commands regarding the motion of the mobile robot and various sensors are given through the monitoring system which is designed to provide an integrated man-machine interface.

  • 입체카메라에서 줌 사용시 컨버전스 포인트의 움직임에 따라 발생되는 시각적 불편의 문제와 거리감의 변동을 해결하기 위해 컨버전스 포인트 조정기법을 제시했었다. 본 연구에서는 이러한 조정기법의 우수성을 입증하기 위해 정량적 평가인 주시특성 분석을 설계했다. 입체영상에 대한 주관평가를 사용자의 시선움직임을 통해 정량적으로 파악하게 된다면 입체에 대한 사용자의 감성이미지를 보다 정확하게 파악할 수 있으며 이러한 자료를 통해 사용자 중심의 입체영상을 제작할 수 있는 환경을 제공하는 것이 가능할 것이다. 이를 통해 제시된 기법의 우수성을 정성과 정량적으로 입증한다.
