This paper presents a new stand-alone wind-based induction generator system with constant frequency and adjustable output voltage. The proposed generator consists of a six-phase cage-rotor induction machine with two separate three-phase balanced stator windings and a three-phase space vector pulse width modulation inverter that operates as a static synchronous compensator (STATCOM). The first stator winding is fed by the STATCOM and used to excite the machine while the second stator winding is connected to the generator external load. The main frequency of the STATCOM is determined to be constant and equal to the load-requested frequency. The generator output frequency is independent of the load power demand and its prime mover speed because the frequency of the induced emf in the second stator winding is the same as this constant frequency. A sliding mode control (SMC) is developed to regulate the generator output voltage. A second SMC is used to force the zero active power exchanged between the machine and the STATCOM. Some simulation and experimental results are presented to prove the validity and effectiveness of the proposed generator system.

In this paper, when ac motors are driven by the diode rectifier/Z-source inverter system, the common-mode voltages of system are analyzed in details under both the shoot-through state and non-shoot-through state through equivalent circuits. Then a modified space vector modulation strategy is suggested for attenuating the negative common-mode voltage by eliminating the zero voltage vector, and also controlling the shoot-through time. Through the simulation studies with PSIM and experiments with 32-bit DSP, it is verified that the negative common-mode voltage can be reduced by more than 50%.
Model predictive direct power control (MPDPC) is a widely recognized high-performance control strategy for a three-phase grid-connected pulse width modulation (PWM) rectifier. Unlike those of conventional grid-connected PWM rectifiers, the active and reactive powers of permanent magnet synchronous generator (PMSG)-connected PWM rectifiers, which are used in electromagnetic transmitters, cannot be calculated as the product of voltage and current because the back electromotive force (EMF) of the generator cannot be measured directly. In this study, the predictive power model of the rectifier is obtained by analyzing the relationship among flux, back EMF, active/reactive power, converter voltage, and stator current of the generator. The concept of duty cycle control in the proposed MPDPC is introduced by allocating a fraction of the control period for a nonzero vector and rest time for a zero vector. When nonzero vectors and their duration in the predefined cost function are simultaneously evaluated, the global power ripple minimization is obtained. Simulation and experimental results prove that the proposed MPDPC strategy with duty cycle control for the PMSG-connected PWM rectifier can achieve better control performance than the conventional MPDPC-SVM with grid-connected PWM rectifier.

To investigate statistics of flamelet in a turbulent premixed flame and to obtain components of their burning velocities in a vertical plane above a pipe-flow burner, the local motion of flamelets with respect to gas are measured by specially arranged diagnostics, composed of an electrostatic probe with four identical sensors and a two-color four-beam LDV system. With this technique, the three-dimensional local flame- front-velocity vector is measured by the electrostatic probe for the first time, and simultaneously the axial and radial components of the local gas-velocity vector in a vertical plane above the vertically oriented burner are measured by the LDV system. Two components of burning velocities of planar flamelets can be obtained from these results and are found to be distributed over different directions and to range in magnitude from nearly zero to a few times the planar, un strained adiabatic laminar burning velocity measured in the unburnt gas. It may be concluded from these results that turbulence exerts measurable influences on flamelets and causes at least some of them to exhibit increased burning velocity.

This paper describes real-time unbalance moment compensation method for line of sight(LOS) stabilization control systems. The factors of system inertia, frictions and unbalance moment affect the control accuracy of drive systems that are equipped to on the move(OTM) platforms requiring LOS stabilization function. In case of the unbalance moment among those factors is continuously changed as variation of relative angle between gravity vector and drive torque vector. Then, consideration of the effect in real-time is very complicate. Therefore, its effect should be designed to be minimized, however, designing it almost zero is impossible in real condition. In other words, it is hard to achieve target performance overcoming stability issue of highly unbalanced systems. To solve these problems, this paper proposes calculation method of unbalance moment by using measured sensor data for LOS stabilization control and its use for control compensation. Also, kinematical converting process and control structure for compensation are explained. The effectiveness of the proposed method as variation of unbalance moment is verified under simulation circumstance modeled by assuming LOS control system with 2-axis gimbal structure.
Based on the space vector pulse width modulation (SVPWM) theory, this paper realizes an easier SVPWM strategy, which is equivalently implemented by CBSPWM with zero-sequence voltage injection. The traditional SVPWM strategy has no effect on controlling the neutral-point voltage balance. In order to solve the neutral-point voltage unbalance problem for neutral-point-clamped (NPC) three-level inverters, this paper proposes a neutral-point voltage balance controller. The proposed controller realizes controlling the neutral-point voltage balance by dynamically calculating the offset superimposed to the three-phase modulation waves of an equivalent SVPWM strategy. Compared with the traditional SVPWM strategy, the proposed neutral-point voltage balance controller has a strong ability to balance the neutral-point voltage, has good steady-state performance, improves the output waveforms quality and is easy for digital implementation. An experiment has been carried out on a NPC three-level inverter prototype based on a digital signal processor-complex programmable logic device (DSP-CPLD). The obtained experimental results verify the effectiveness of the proposed neutral-point voltage balance controller.

This study proposes a new PWM method for leakage current reduction and neutral point (NP) current control in three-phase three-level converter employed in bipolar DC distribution systems. The proposed PWM method uses medium vectors only when there is no need to control the NP current. Thus, common mode voltages are held constant to realize zero leakage current. Some space vectors that produce low-frequency common mode voltages are employed to minimize leakage currents when the average NP current needs to be a positive or negative value. The proposed space vector PWM is implemented based on barycentric coordinate. The validity of the proposed PWM method is verified by simulations and experiments.

Error control and concealment in video communication is becoming increasingly important because transmission errors can cause single or multiple loss of macroblocks in video delivery over unreliable channels such as wireless networks and the internet. This paper describes a temporal error concealment by postprocessing. Lost image blocks are overlapped block motion compensated (OBMC) using median of motion vectors from adjacent blocks at the decoder. The results show a significant improvement over zero motion error concealment and other temporal concealment methods such as Motion Vector Rational Interpolation or Side Match Criterion OBMC by 1.4 to 3.5㏈ gain in PSNR. We present experimental results showing improvements in PSNR and computational complexity.

A new method of induction motor drive, which requires not shaft encoder, is presented. This system has both torque and speed controls that are performed by vector control. The scheme is on the basis of a rotor flux speed control, which is performed by torque producing current and rotor flux, derived from the stator voltages and currents. But, there is a problem with respect to the calculated rotor flux vector, which is an integrating operation by which the rotor induced voltage is converted into the rotor flux. The calculated rotor flux does not work so that it is unstable in initial operation, as motor speed approaches zero. For the proposed rotor flux estimator, a lag circuit is employed, to which both the motor-induced voltage and rotor flux command are imposed, and it is possible to calculate even a low frequency down to standstill. We show the validity of the proposed control method through several computer simulations.
This paper proposes a cost-effective topology to drive a three-phase open-end load based on a five-leg indirect matrix converter (IMC) and a space vector modulation (SVM) method. By sharing an inverter leg with two load terminals, the proposed topology can reduce the number of power switches when compared to topologies based on a direct matrix converter or a six-leg IMC. The new SVM method uses only the active vectors that do not produce common-mode voltage (CMV), which results in zero CMV across the load phase and significantly reduces the peak value of the CMV at the load terminal. Furthermore, the proposed drive system can increase the voltage transfer ratio up to 1.5 and provide a superior performance in terms of an output line-to-line voltage with a three-level pulse-width modulation waveform. Simulation and experimental results are given to verify the effectiveness of the proposed topology and the new SVM method.
