  • In this paper a new zero voltage transition PWM bridgeless PFC is introduced. The auxiliary circuit provides soft switching condition for all semiconductor devices. Also, in the resonant path of the auxiliary circuit, only two semiconductor devices exist. Therefore the resonant conduction losses are low. Furthermore, the auxiliary circuit semiconductor elements consist of only one diode and one switch. The proposed auxiliary circuit is applied to a bridgeless PFC converter to further reduce conduction and switching losses. In this paper, the operating modes of this converter are explained and the resulting ideal and simulation waveforms are shown. The presented experimental results justify the theoretical analysis.

  • In this paper, a new power factor correction circuit(PFC) based on a soft-switched boost scheme is proposed. Except for some soft-switching transition intervals, it operates exactly like the conventional boost scheme. Thus the desirable features of both high efficiency and easy control can be obtained. The design guidelines are suggested to achieve high efficiency. To verify the superior performance of the proposed circuit, experiment and simulation is carried out.

  • In conventional Zero-Voltage-Transition(ZVT) PWM converters, zero-voltage turn-on and turn-off for main switch without increasing voltage/current stresses is achieved at a fixed frequency. The switching loss, stress, and noise, however, can't be minimized because they adopt auxiliary switches turned off under hard-switching condition. In this paper, new ZVS-PWM converters of which both active and passive switches are always operating with soft-switching condition are proposed. Therefore, the proposed ZVS-PWM converters are most suitable for avionics applications requiring high-power density. Breadboarded ZVS-PWM boost converters using power MOSFET are constructed to verify theoretical analysis.

  • This paper presents a single-stage ZVT full-bridge AC/DC converter for aerospace applications. The detailed operating principle and design consideration of this soft-switched converter are analyzed and described. The proposed circuit topology and control scheme are proposed to exhibit optimum performances (i.e. high power factor, high efficiency, ring-free and low EMI features). A laboratory prototype, 500W 5V/100A AC/DC converter was implemented. The simulation and experimental waveforms verify the feasibility of the proposed design.

  • A new auxiliary circuit for boost, buck, buck-boost, Cuk, SEPIC, and zeta converters is introduced to provide soft switching for pulse-width modulation converters. In the aforementioned family of DC-DC converters, the main and auxiliary switches turn on under zero current transition (ZCT) and turn off with zero voltage and current transition (ZVZCT). All diodes commutate under soft switching conditions. On the basis of the proposed converter family, the boost topology is analyzed, and its operating modes are presented. The validity of the theoretical analysis is justified by the experimental results of a 100W, 100 kHz prototype. The conducted electromagnetic emissions of the proposed boost converter are measured and found to be lower than those of another ZCT boost converter.

  • HPSL(High Pressure Sodium lamp)have attracted much attention in recent years, because they offer high luminous efficiency and very long life. Recently, AC-DC converters have been widely as power factor improvement circuits in the power conversion equipment An application of the ZVT-PWM(Zero Voltage Transition Pulse Width Modulation) boost converter, which has great advantage on miniaturization and high power density, to the power factor improvement circuit of the HPSL inverter are described to identify the power factor correction characteristics of the inverter. In this paper the series-parallel resonant inverter(electronic ballast) for driving a HPS lamp is discussed. Finally, a power factor corrector is cascaded in front of the electronic ballast. Consequently, a high power factor above 0.99 and low THD on the line current can be achieved.

  • For the application of soft-switching technique to single Phase-full bridge inverter. in this paper ZCT(Zero Current Transition) and ZVT(Zero Voltage Transition) techniques proposed previously are compared and discussed the merit and demerit of both. Both have a excellency that can reduce the number of auxiliary switch and resonant circuit compared to other techniques and achive soft-switching in auxiliary switch itself. Therefore, it has enabled us to have benifits of realizing high efficiency and reliability, low EMI for high switching frequency and reducing the cost as well as size of device.

  • This paper presents a new PWM DC/DC converter with multi-output using single secondary winding, which has two output characteristics of the isolation and non-isolation simultaneously. The proposed converter topology is consisted of the only one switch and single secondary winding. The proposed converter, therefore, has advantages not only low cost but also high power density. Operating principal of the proposed converter topology with conventional ZVT (Zero-Voltage-Transition) is illustrated in detail and the validity of the converter is verified with several interesting simulation results.

  • This study introduces a novel Soft Switching (SS) Pulse Width Modulated (PWM) AC-DC boost converter. In the proposed converter, the main switch is turned on with Zero Voltage Transition (ZVT) and turned off with Zero Current Transition (ZCT). The main diode is turned on with Zero Voltage Switching (ZVS) and turned off with Zero Current Switching (ZCS). The auxiliary switch is turned on and off with ZCS. All auxiliary semiconductor devices are turned on and off with SS. There is no extra current or voltage stress on the main semiconductor devices. The majority of switching energies are transferred to the output by auxiliary transformer. Thus, the current stress of auxiliary switch is significantly reduced. Besides, the proposed converter has simple structure and ease of control due to common ground. The theoretical analysis of the proposed converter is verified by a prototype with 100 kHz switching frequency and 500 W output power. Furthermore, the efficiency of the proposed converter is 98.9% at nominal output power.

  • In this study, a novel single phase soft switched power factor correction (PFC) converter is developed with active snubber cell. The active snubber cell provides boost switch both to turn on with zero voltage transition (ZVT) and to turn off with zero current transition (ZCT). As the switching losses in the proposed converter are too low, L and C size can be reduced by increasing the operating frequency. Also, all the semiconductor devices operate with soft switching. There is no additional voltage stress in the boost switch and diode. The proposed converter has a simple structure, low cost and ease of control as well. It has a simple control loop to achieve near unity power factor with the aid of the UC3854. In this study, detailed steady state analysis of the proposed converter is presented and this theoretical analysis is verified by a prototype of 100 kHz and 500 W converter. The measured power factor and efficiency are 0.99 and 97.9% at full load.
