  • pH, EC and TDS are basic components in the investigation of groundwater quality, and are very important to the preliminary assessment of groundwater quality. These three chemical components investigated at the Youngsan and Sumjin river basins in 1998 suggest that the groundwater quality is generally good in these basins. Linear regression analysis shows that TDS versus EC has an linear correlation, but EC versus pH, and TDS versus pH have nearly no correlation. The relation of TDS and EC is 1.0 mg/1=1.52 $mu\textrm{S}$/cm, and it is the quality of natural water. In geostatistical analysis. three kinds of data are stationary random functions and they have exponential variograms. According to the isopleth maps of the groundwater quality, the groundwater quality of the Youngsan river basin is more contaminated than that of the Sumjin river basin. The isopleth maps of TDS and EC show very similar patterns because of the strong correlation between TDS and EC. The minimum and maximum values of the groundwater quality data are not reflected on the isopleth maps because kriging produces smooth distributions with minimum estimation variances.

  • It started road constructions around river in 1990s. These maintenances concentrate on city river. Because river lives no living things and men don't come near there. But in spite of these river environment go to rack, river maintenances still keep on using preexistence method since 1990s. Only a part of city river environment maintenances consider environmental ability of passive river, river maintenance of a purpose of flood control still don't consider in the concrete. Because propulsion device that consider environment ability of passive river and possible application techniques don't complete. In accordance, A natural river maintenance needs absolutly a series of river projects. Because a natural river maintenance prevents a damage of environment ability. This study is to assume the flood really happened and to carry out the flood damage simulation needed in overflow simulation about the inundated zone. Also, This study examine unstable part about the hydraulic characteristic as velocities, stream power, shear, hydraulic depth, flow area in basin. And this study applied the HEC-RAS(river analysis system) model to predict flood overflow in youngsan river basin. Project flood is used the return period 100 year and inputed data that was calculated in intensity figures of illumination.

  • This study compares the abundance and community structure of zooplankton organisms from the littoral and pelagic regions, and considers particularly trophic levels vs. zooplankton abundances. Zooplankton samples, collected every 3 months over a year from 2010 to 2011 at 29 temperate lakes and reservoirs, which belong to two different river basins (Youngsan and Seomjin River). The spatial pattern of rotifers was similar to that of total zooplankton abundance. This reflected the fact that rotifers strongly dominated the zooplankton community. There were considerable spatial variations in total zooplankton abundance (ANOVA, p<0.01), while there were no significant differences both in littoral and pelagic regions in abundance of zooplankton (ANOVA, p=0.205). The mean abundance of zooplankton in eutrophic systems was much higher than that of mesotrophic systems, while significant difference in number of species and diversity index were not shown in both trophic systems.

  • The purposes of this study were to suggest the methodology to select prior areas in the environmental pollution survey for livestock excreta (EPSLE) as well as to elucidate the validity of the methodology. In this study, the prior areas in the EPSLE were determined by examining the number of compost facilities categorized according to the three levels of size including the basin, the sub-basin and the watershed, respectively, based on the data from "Annual Nation-wide Pollution Sources Survey (2012)". The results suggested that the list of prior basins were Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han river basins in order. Also, it was examined that the prior sub-basins in the four river basins including Nakdong, Geum, Youngsan and Han rivers were Naesung Stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream, respectively. The prior watersheds in the sub-basins of Naesung stream, Geumgang Gongju, Juam Dam and Namhan Downstream were Seocheon Downstream, Geum Stream, Gyeombaek Suwipyo and Yanghwa Stream, respectively. The validity of the methodology used in this study was elucidated by analyzing the correlation of the number of compost facilities with the concentrations of T-N and T-P observed in the end-points of sub-basins. The results of correlation analysis showed that the concentrations of T-N and T-P increased with the number of compost facilities. Specifically, there was the stronger correlation between the number of compost facilities and the concentrations of T-N than that for T-P. Consequently, it was proved that the methodology used in this work was valid and rational for the selection of prior areas in environmental pollution survey for EPSLE.

  • In this study, the characteristics of crop damage area by flooding for 113 middle range watersheds during 2000-2016 were analyzed and future crop damage area by flooding were analyzed using 13 GCM outputs such as hourly maximum rainfall, 10-min maximum rainfall, number of days of 80 mm/day, daily rainfall maximum, annual rainfall amount associated with RCP 4.5 and RCP 8.5 scenarios and watershed characteristic data such as DEM, urbanization ratio, population density, asset density, road improvement ratio, river improvement ratio, drainage system improvement ratio, pumping capacity, detention basin capacity, and crop damage area by flooding. A constrained multiple linear regression model was used to construct the relationships between the crop damage area by flooding and other variables. Future flood index related to crop damage may mainly increase in the Mankyung watershed, Southwest part of Youngsan and Sumjin river basin and Southern part of Nackdong river basin. Results are useful to identify watersheds which need to establish strategies for responding to future flood damage.

  • The purpose of this study is to calibrate the parameters of tank model for the derivation of a design flood hydrograph at a certain river basin outlet. The selected stations are Gongju and Naju station which are located in the Keum and the Youngsan river basin, respectively. The results of parameters calibration for tank model are represented a little different values comparing with the proposed values at Gongju station through the verification of flood hydrograph in modeling procedure but the values of tank parameters at Naju station are fitted well for the derivation of flood hydrograph using the proposed design parameters of tank model.

  • In this study, long-term measurement data were applied to the LOADEST model and used as an analysis tool to identify and interpret trends in pollution load. The LOADEST model is a regression equation-based pollution load estimation program developed by the United States Geological Survey (USGS) to estimate the change in the pollution load of rivers according to flow rate and time and provides 11 regression equations for pollution load evaluation. As a result of simulating the Gwangjuchen2, Pungyeongjeongchen, and Pyeongdongchen in the Yeongbon B unit basin in the middle and upper reaches of the Yeongsan River with the LOADEST model using water quality and flow measurement data, lower values were observed for the Gwangjuchen2 and Pyeongdongchen, whereas the Pungyeongjeongchen had higher values. This was judged to be due to the characteristics of the LOADEST model related to data continuity. According to the parameters estimated by the LOADEST model, pollutant trends were affected by increases in the flow. In addition, variability increased with time, and BOD and T-P were affected by the season. Thus, the LOADEST model can contribute to water quality management as an analytical tool for long-term data monitoring.

  • The present day, interest in low flow statistics has been increased, primarily because of the increase in water demands and the contamination of water quality and the limitation of water resource development and the annual water supply stability. The model for estimating low flow statistics is points of this study chosen catchments in the Youngsan basin. For the purpose of this study. the low-flow discharge at 23 points, where absent gauging station is unmeasured and the data is used for the model. Finally, the regional formula to estimate the low flow statistics at the unmeasured point is proposed.

  • The purpose of this study is to propose the alternative development method by means of determining the optimal project size from the economic viewpoint, improving the existing method depending on engineering aspects. To this end, this study defined the flood mitigation projects as the production activities carried out by inputs and outputs, and proposed the alternative development method on the basis of optimizing input and output combinations. This paper, as the case study of the proposed method, developed alternatives for the flood mitigation planning of Youngsan River Basin by determining the optimal project scale. As the result of determining optimal project size, the net benefit of the optimal alternative tended to be dependent on the net benefits of the large individual proposals. Due to such problem, the effect of relatively small individual proposals are underestimated and possibly be excluded from the optimal alternative, which may result in exclusion of the potential damaged regions protected by them from the flood mitigation project. Thus for the selective flood protection by region, individual proposals need to be categorized into the global measures and local measures according to the flood protection area.
