  • In this paper, a broadband tunable YIG(Yittrium Iron Garnet) oscillator is designed and fabricated. To design an YTO(YIG Tuned Oscillator), a suitable YIG resonator is selected according to the design oscillation range and its equivalent R, L, C resonant circuit parameters are obtained through the measurement of its resonance characteristic. Using the equivalent circuit, the wideband topology which suppresses the parasitic oscillation is selected and implemented. The designed circuit is simulated by HBT(Harmoic Balance Technique) using EEsof's jOMEGA. The YTO thus fabricated has the wide oscillation range from 1.4 GHz to 4 GHz, and its linearity is 0.5% in the oscillation range. The phase noise is below 105dBc at 100kHz offset.

  • Yittrium Iron Garnet(YIG) has been used as an important material in the circulator/isolator which is used in RF communication system, mobile phone, adn satellite broadcasting, etc. In this study, we investigated the microstructural and magnetic properties of YIG ferrites with the sintering temperature and additives. We fabricated the YIG ferrites substituted with Ca, In, V by the traditional ceramic sintering method at 1250$\^{C}$, 1275$\^{C}$, 1300$\^{C}$ and 1325$\^{C}$. Powders were granulated by using a spray dryer. Crystallographic and microstructural properties were measured by using XRD and SEM. Magnetic properties were measured by using a VSM for saturation magnetization (4$\pi$M$\_$s/) and FMR (Ferromagnetic Resonance) experiment for ferromagnetic resonance line width (△H). The YIG ferrite, Y$\_$1.6/Ca$\_$1.4/Fe$_4$V$\_$0.7/In$\_$0.3/O$\_$12/, sintered at 1300$\^{C}$, showed higher saturation magnetization and lower ferromagnetic resonance line width than any other sintering temperatures.

  • In this study, we investigated the variation of microstructural and electromagnetic properties of YIG ferrites for Isolator/Circulator application with the sintering temperature and Zr addition. The composition of the ferrites was Y$_{2.1}$Ca$_{0.9}$Fe$_{4.4-x}$V$_{0.5}$In$_{0.05}$Al$_{0.05}$Zr$_{x}$O$_{12}$ with x=0, 0.05, 0.1 and 0.2. The YIG ferrites were prepared by the conventional ceramic sintering process. The Zr-substituted YIG ferrite, Y$_{2.1}$ Ca$_{0.9}$Fe$_{4.4-x}$V$_{0.5}$In$_{0.05}$Al$_{0.05}$ Zr$_{x}$O$_{12}$ showed the highest saturation magnetization (1097 gauss) at x=0.1. The microwave properties were shown as isolation of 18.60 dB and insertion loss of 0.45 dB at x=0.2. Additionally, Zr-substitution was effective in decreasing ferromagnetic resonance linewidth with Zr content.

  • In this paper, we propose the PLL system of the local oscillator system for the millimeter wave band's radio astronomy receiving system. The development of the proposed local oscillator system based on the YIG oscillator VCO with $26.5\~40GHz$ specification. This system consists of the oscillator part including the YIG VCO, the harmonic mixer, and the isolator, the RF processing part including the triplexer, limiter, and RF discrimination processor, and the PLL system including YIG modulator and controller. Based on this configuration, we verify the frequency and power stability of the developed local oscillator system according to some temperature variation. From this test results we confirm the stable output frequency and power characteristic peformance of the developed LO system at constant temperature.

  • Bismuth-substituted yttrium iron garnet($Bi_{0.5}Y_{2.5}Fe_5O_{12}$) films were deposited with the aerosol deposition method and their magnetic and optical properties were investigated as a function of the aerosol incident angle. The optical transmittance of Bi:YIG increased about 80% with increasing the aerosol incident angle from 0 degree to 30 degree, due to decrease of the defects which were formed from agglutinations of the Bi:YIG particles inside and/or surface of the film. The coercive force also decreased largely with increasing the aerosol incident angle due to the reduction of the collision energy between the particles and the substrate and the decrease of the defects.

  • $Y_{3-x}R_xFe_5O_{12}$ (R = La, Nd, and Gd) powder were fabricated using a sol-gel pyrolysis method. Their magnetic properties and crystalline structures were investigated using x-ray diffraction (XRD), a vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), and $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ Spectrometer. The $M{\ddot{o}}ssbauer$ spectra for the powders were taken at various temperatures ranging from 12 K to Curie temperature (Tc). The isomer shifts indicated that the valence states of Fe ions for the 16(a) and 24(d) sites have a ferric character. The saturation magnetization (Ms) increases from 32 to 34 (emu/g) for the YIG, and Nd-YIG, respectively. However, Ms decreases to 27 (emu/g) at Gd-YIG.

  • Nano-sized Yttrium iron garnet (YIG;$Y_3Fe_5O_{12}$) particles have been synthesized by using coprecipitation and a heat treatment process. The YIG particles were made using a nitrate or a chloride salt solution. The pH concentration of the solution was fixed at 12. Spherical shaped YIG particles were made with a size of about 20 nm. The magnetization value of the particles was smaller than the bulk value but their coercive field showed a high value.

  • We have fabricated three-dimensional magnetophotonic crystals based on $\alpha$-$SiO_2$ opal films. Opal thin films grown on glass substrates were filled with bismuth substituted iron garnet (Bi:YIG). Scanning electron microscopy data, optical and magnetic properties of the synthesized samples confirm the presence of the Bi:YIG contentin the opal lattice. It is shown that the samples exhibit the (111) stop band, and transmissivity of the threedimensional magnetophotonic crystals is defined by both the film lattice and the Bi:YIG content.

  • YIG(Yttrium Iron Garnet) is one of the most widely used ferrites for microwave telecommunication. It used as a passive devices such as isolators and circulators. In order to reduce the insertion losses of these passive devices, it is very important to reduce magnetic loss of the ferrites. In general, the magnetic losses of ferrites is closely related to the microstructure of the ceramics. In the sintering of YIG, pores are easily trapped in grains and grain boundaries. These pores cause to increase magnetic losses of the sinterted bodies. In this paper, the effect of the $SiO_2$ addition on the microstructure was discussed. Increasing the $SiO_2$ addition, the grain size was reduced, which means that added acts as a grain-growth inhibitor. During the sintering, $SiO_2$ settled down on the grain boundaries, and drag the grain growth. Therefore, there is enough time for pores to move out. The relative density of YIG sintered at $1350^{\circ}C$ with 1 mol% $SiO_2$ addition was 99.6%. $\Delta$H of these samples was under 50 Oe.
