The objective of this work is to develop the capability to analyze accurately the mixed-mode propagation of a crack in composite structures with elastic orthotropic material stiffness properties and anisotropic material strength characteristics. We employ the normal stress ratio theory to predict the direction of crack extension. It is shown that the angle of crack extension can be altered by the use of second order term in the series expansion is important for the accurate determination of crack growth direction.

In machining die cavities or mechanical parts, we often encounter the needs to remove a material within a given boundary. Even though this pocket cutting capability has been implemented in many NC packages, most of them can handle convex shaped pockets bounded by curves of limited types and numbers. In this work, a procedure has been developed to machine pockets of a free surface bounded by lines, circular arcs and free curves. Also, the cutter location data is computed directly without using iterative method for better computational efficiency.

As a means of human interface, this study designs Developed-ERES/WCS with voice recognition capability and fuzzy set theory. In the advanced teleoperator system, when an error occurs on the automatic mode, the error is recovered after the automatic mode is changed into the manual mode intervened by a human. The purpose of this study is to reduce human work load and to shorten error recovery time during error recovery.

As a result of our decade-long effort, we developed a new approach wherein small-aperture telescope powered by ingeniously designed narrow-band filter systems can have the capability to measure not only the heavy but also the lighter elemental abundances of the red-giant branch (RGB) and asymptotic-giant branch (AGB) stars in the globular clusters. Our novel approach can complement the intrinsic weakness of the results from the prestigious instruments, such as HST and the VLT. In our talk, we will present the multiple stellar populations of the RGB and the AGB stars in M5, as a pilot work.

According to the recent increase of demands for multi-function and economics on hydraulic excavator, it is required that excavator should have simple operation, higher and operational efficiency. However, it is difficulty for current hydraulic system to satisfy demands fully. This study shows that new control system improves power transmission efficiency, work capability of engine and hydraulic system of current excavator.

This thesis presents a design and partial implementation of a program family of extended pretty printers. Factors that influence the readability (perception) and understand ability (cognition) of computer programs are indentified, previous work is reviewed, and new solutions are suggested. Extensions to the previous pretty printer designs include a capability to selectively display levels of control of a program. In order to accommodate different computer languages and to allow for, several secondary functions, a family of pretty printers is designed. This design facilitates easy extension, contraction and modification.

The work presented here deals with controller design by graphical method based on proportional control ramp response. The design aims at the improvement of transient response, disturbance rejection capability, steady-state error reduction with stability preservation. The first step is to generate tracking-error curve with proportional control only and decide the added error signal shape on the error curve. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is confirmed through the simulation and experiment.

The risk management case is an organization's formal arrangement to ensure the safety of its work activity within risk management system. It allows an organization to demonstrate its capability in achieving its safety objectives and in meeting regulatory requirements. This paper presents how the safety assessments are described, prepared and maintained to meet the criteria specified by the upcoming safety regulations. We propose the elements of risk management system that include arrangements for the ongoing identification of hazards, assessment of risks and the implementation of necessary control measures.

The purpose of this work is to present three-dimensional models of plain fabrics having various warp and filling yarn diameters. In order to simulate a woven fabric, a 3-dimensional CAD software with NURBS modeling capability was used. Final rendering was performed on the fabric model. It was demonstrated that the changes in yarn diameter could be three-dimensionally modeled through the use of fabric geometry and the 3D CAD. A short RhinoScript program was composed to implement the data importing and model building on the 3D CAD.

Agile 소프트웨어 개발의 대표적인 방법론인 XP(eXtreme Programming)에서는 현장에서 바로 활용할 수 있는 아주 기본적인 프로세스만을 정의하고, 개발 그 자체에 집중하여 효율성을 극대화한다. 그러나 XP의 실천사항들은 개발에 집중되어 있어 개발 산출물에 대한 관리는 간과되기 쉬우며, 또한 관리적인 부분에 대한 지침이나 연구는 그 중요성에 비하여 미흡한 실정이다. 개발 과정 중 합의된 산출물의 변경과정에 대한 절차나, 지속적인 통합과 리팩토링을 위한 적절한 절차도 정의되어 있지 않아 산출물의 무결성을 보장하기가 어렵다. 이러한 문제점을 극복하기 위해서는 주요 산출물들에 대한 형상관리가 요구된다. XP에 형상 관리를 적용하기 위해서는 CMMI의 형상 관리 프로세스 영역을 참조하는 것이 바람직하다. CMMI는 형상 관리의 요건을 정의하고, 그 구현은 환경에 맞게 조정하는 것을 권장하기 때문에, 각 개발방식의 특성에 맞추어 적용할 수 있다. XP 방법론을 채택한 조직들에게 XP의 특성을 살리면서 CMMI에 기반한 형상 관리를 수행할 수 있는 지침이 제공된다면, XP의 지속적인 통합과 리팩토링, 짧은 릴리즈 주기와 같은 기민함을 유지하면서 산출물들의 무결성도 보장 할 수 있을 것이다. 본 연구에서는 CMMI를 기반으로 XP에서 적용될 수 있는 형상 관리 프로세스 요소를 추출하고, 그 요소들을 기반으로 XP의 형상 관리 활동을 위한 적용 지침을 개발하였다.
