The main purpose of this paper is to present both the natural frequencies and the buckling loads of beam-columns on Winkler-type foundations. The ordinary differential equations governing the free vibrations and the buckling loads of beam-columns on Winkler-type foundation are derived as nondimensional forms. The Runge-Kutta method and Determinant Search method are used to perform the integration of the differential equations and to determine the eigenvalues(natural frequencies and buckling loads), respectively. Hinged-hinged and damped-clamped end constraints are applied in numerical examples. The relation between frequency parameter and elastic foundation parameter is presented in figure. The effects of axial loads on the natural frequencies of beam-columns on elastic foundations are investigated and the relation between buckling load parameter and elastic foundation parameter is also analyzed. The relation between foundation rested ratio and frequency parameter, buckling load parameter are investigated. The beam-columns on non-homogeneous elastic foundation are analyzed and typical mode shapes are also presented.
In this paper, a method is presented for estimating the bearing capacity of shallow foundations based on the Discrete Element Method (DEM). By applying Winkler-springs for accounting for the compatibility between soil blocks, the proposed method can estimate the state of stress at failure surface and the ultimate bearing capacity. For the investigation of the application of the method, example problems about shallow foundations on the single layer and two layers soil are analyzed.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of shallow arches resting on elastic foundations. Foundations we assumed to follow the hypothesis proposed by Pasternak. The governing differential equation is derived for the in-plane free vibration of linearly elastic arches of uniform stiffness and constant mass per unit length. Two arch shapes with hinged-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints we considered in analysis. The frequency equations (lowest symmetrical and antisymmetrical frequency equations) we obtained by Galerkin's method. The effects of arch rise, Winkler foundation parameter and shear foundation parameter on the lowest two natural frequencies are investigated. The effect of initial arch shapes on frequencies is also studied.
This paper describes a numerical method for pile foundation subjected to earthquake loading using dynamic Winkler foundation model. To verify the numerical method, shaking table tests were carried out. In shaking table tests, accelerations and pile bending moments were measured for single pile and pile groups with a spacing-to-diameter ratio of 2.5 under fixed input base acceleration. In numerical analysis, the input base and free field accelerations measured from shaking table tests were used as input base motions. Based on the results obtained, free field acceleration was magnified relative to input base acceleration, whereas pile head accelerations reduced relatively to free field acceleration for soil-pile interaction. Measured and predicted bending moments for both cases have maximum value within the distance 10cm(4d) from the pile top. However, there are some differences between the results of numerical analysis and shake table test below 10cm(4d) from the pile top.

This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of circular strip foundations with the variable breadth. Taking into account effects of both rotatory inertia and shear deformation, differential equations governing free vibrations of such foundations are derived. The Winkler foundation is chosen as the model of soil foundation. The breadth of strip foundation is assumed to be a linear function. The differential equations are solved numerically to calculate natural frequencies. In numerical examples, the strip foundations with the hinged-hinged, hinged-clamped. clamped-hinged and clamped-clamped end constraints are considered. The parametric studies are conducted and the lowest four frequency parameters are reported in figures as the non-dimensional forms.

Even with its significant influence on the dynamic analysis and foundation design of structures, sometimes the soil-structure interaction has been ignored during the design process. One of the reasons is due to the fact that the modeling procedures are too complicated to meet the requirements in practice. In this study, using the Cali(IT)2 building in California with high and frequent seismic activities, the analysis differences for different boundary conditions are reviewed. The Beam on Nonlinear Winkler Foundation Model, one of the foundation modeling methods, is modified for easy use by the Linear Matrix Inequalities Model Reduction Technique. The product of the proposed process is applied to create the Finite Element Model. The results show fairly good agreement with the real data acquired from the Cal(IT)2 building.

Recently, as high-rise buildings increase steeply, sub-structures of them are often supported on in-homogeneous foundation. And there are many machines in sub-structures of buildings, and slabs of sub-structures are affected by vibration which they make. This paper deals with vibration of plates with concentrated masses on in-homogeneous foundation. Machines on plates are considered as concentrated masses. In-homogeneous foundation is considered as assigning $k_{w1}$ and $k_{w2}$ to Winkler foundation parameters of central region and side region of plate respectively, and foundation is idealized to use Pasternak foundation model which considered both of Winkler foundation parameter and shear foundation parameter. In this paper, applying Winkler foundation parameters which $k_{w1}$and $k_{w2}$ are 10, $10^2$, $10^3$ and shear foundation parameter which are 10, 20 respectively, first natural frequencies of thick plates with concentrated masses on in-homogeneous foundations are calculated.

In this paper, the analysis of plates resting on Winkler's springs and on an isotropic elastic half space is made by the finite element method using an isoparametric element. A new technique is introduced to calculate the numerical values of influence area for the soil element. A computer program NMAT has been developed and checked through demonstrating examples.

This paper deals with the free vibrations of horizontally curved beams with mu1tiple elastic springs. Taking into account the effects of rotatory Inertia and shear deformation. differential equations governing the free vibrations of such beams are derived, In which each e1astic spring is modeled as a discrete Winkler foundation with very short longitudinal length. Differential equations are solved numerically to calculate natural frequencies and mode shapes. In numerical examples, the circular, Parabolic. sinusoidal and elliptic curved beams are considered. The parametric studies are conducted and the lowest four frequency parameters are reported In tables and figures as the non-dimensional forms. Also the typical mode shapes are presented.
