Objectives : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-cancer effects of Oldenlandia diffusa extract on WiDr human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. Methods : We examined cell death by (3-[4, 5-dimethylthiazol-2-yl]-2, 5-diphenyltetrazolium bromide) MTT assay and the caspase 3 and 9 activity assay with Oldenlandia diffusa extract. To examine the inhibitory effects of Oldenlandia diffusa extract, we performed a cell cycle (sub-G1) analysis and mitochondrial membrane potential for the WiDr cells after 24 hours with Oldenlandia diffusa extract. Results : 1. Oldenlandia diffusa extract induced cell death in WiDr cells. 2. The sub-G1 peak was increased by Oldenlandia diffusa extract in WiDr cells. 3. Oldenlandia diffusa extract leads to increase the mitochondrial membrane depolarization in WiDr cells. 4. Oldenlandia diffusa extract increases caspase 3 and 9 activities in WiDr cells. 5. Oldenlandia diffusa extract combined with several anti-cancer drugs (paclitaxel, 5-fluorouracil, cisplatin, ectoposide, doxorubicin and docetaxel) markedly inhibited the growth of WiDr cells compared to Oldenlandia diffusa extract and anti-cancer drugs alone. Conclusions : Oldenlandia diffusa extract has an apoptotic role in human colorectal cancer cells and a potential role in developing therapeutic agents against colorectal cancer.
Bovine serum albumin(BSA), $\alpha$-lactalbumin($\alpha$-LA), $\beta$-lactoglobulin($\beta$-LG) and bovine immunoglobulin G (IgG) were investigated the cytotoxicity on tumor cell lines. $\alpha$-LA was showned a tendency of dose dependaent on cytotoxicity using WiDr. The growth of WiDr was inhibited 82% by 1mg/ml of $\alpha$-LA. However, IgG, BSA and $\beta$-LG were not shown the cytotoxicity on WiDr. When $\alpha$-LA was purified by using high pressure liquid chromatography(HPLC), the main component($\alpha$-LA) was eluted at 33.057 min and extremely small quantities eluted at 32.310 min. The cytotoxicity of main component (eluted at 33.057 min peak) was lower than commercial $\alpha$-LA. And the cytotoxic activity of hydrolyzed $\alpha$-LA and $\alpha$-LA treated with EDTA were lower than commercial $\alpha$-LA on tumor cells.

Purpose: The measurement of radiosensitivity of individuals is useful in radiation therapy. Unfortunately, the measurement of radiation survival using a clonogenic assay, which is the established standard, can be difficult and time consuming. The aim of this study is to compare radiosensitivity results obtained from the MTT and clonogenic assays, and to evaluate whether the MTT assay can be used on clinical specimens. Materials and Methods: HCT-8, LoVo, CT-26, and WiDr were the colon cancer cell lines used for this study. The clonogenic assay was performed to obtain the cell survival curves and surviving fractions at a dose of 2 Gy ($SF_2$) as the standard technique for radiosensitivity. Also, the MTT assay was performed for each of the cell lines (in vitro). To simulate clinical specimens, the cell lines were inoculated into nude mice, removed when the tumors reached 1 cm in diameter, and chopped. Next, the tumors were subjected to the same process involved with the MTT assay in vitro. The inhibition rates (IR) of 10 Gy or 20 Gy of irradiation for in vitro and ex vivo were calculated based on the optical density of the MTT assay, respectively. Results: According to $SF_2$ and the cell survival curve, the HCT-8 and WiDr cell lines were more resistant to radiation than LoVo and CT-26 (p<0.05). The IR was measured by in vitro. The MTT assay IR was 17.3%, 21%, 30% and 56.5% for the WiDr, HCT-8, LoVo and CT-26 cell lines, respectively. In addition, the IR measured ex vivo by the MTT assay was 23.5%, 26%, 38% and 53% in the HCT-8, WiDr, LoVo and CT-26 tumors, respectively. Conclusion: The radiosensitivity measured by the MTT assay was correlated with the measures obtained from the clonogenic assay. This result highlights the possibility that the MTT assay could be used in clinical specimens for individual radiosensitivity assays.
Objective : The purpose of this study was to investigate the anti-cancer effects of Carthami Flos in some kinds of human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells. Method : We used two kinds of human colorectal adenocarcinoma cell lines, such as HT-29 and WiDr cells. We examined cell death by MTT assay and observed the morphological changes with Carthami Flos. Result : We showed that the combination of sub-optimal doses of Carthami Flos and cisplatin noticeably suppresses in HT-29 cells and doxorubicin in WiDr cells. Furthermore, we studied the caspase 3 activity to identify the apoptosis. Conclusion : Our findings provide insight into unraveling the effects of Carthami Flos in human colorectal adenocarcinoma cells and developing therapeutic agents against colorectal cancer.

A slotted implantable patch antenna with microstrip feeding is proposed for industrial, scientific, and medical band applications. The result is verified by implanting the antenna in animal tissue. Further, by varying the ground width and introducing a defect into the ground structure, the antenna becomes applicable for worldwide interoperability for microwave access operations. A simulation is performed using Empire XCcel software. An Agilent vector network analyzer is used for analyzing the return loss performance. Simulated and measured results are compared. Antennas with and without defected ground structure both have key advantages including low profile, desirable return loss, good impedance matching and required bandwidth.

Demand response (DR) can be used to improve the efficiency of electricity markets and increase the reliability of power systems. As more utilities attempt to reduce the purchasing costs by implementing DR programs strategically, there is an increasing need for studies of how to allocate the reduced purchasing costs among DR program participants. The rebates or incentives can be given to DR program participants in proportion to the participants' contributions to the reduced purchasing costs. This paper presents Shapley Value-based method to determine the DR program participants' contributions to the reduced purchasing costs. A numerical example is presented to validate the effectiveness of the proposed method.
We established the model of clonogenic assay with human tumor cell line such as Calu-3 (lung carcinoma), HEC- lB (endometrial adenocarcinoma) , HEp-2 (larnyx carcinoma), Hs-5787 (breast carcinoma), K-562 (chronic myelogenous leukemia), SF-188 (brain carcinoma), SNU-1 (stomach carcinoma) and WiDr (colon carcinoma) . We investigated growth inhibition of solvent (EtOH, MeOH) and water (100$^{\circ}C$, 121$^{\circ}C$) extracts from Korean red ginseng by clonogenic assay. The results of clonogenic assay showed that EtOH extract had growth inhibition against Calu-3, SF-188 and SNU-1, MeOH extract had growth inhibition against Calu-3, Hs-5787, K-562, and WiDr, but water extract at 100$^{\circ}C$ and water extract at 121$^{\circ}C$ had not growth inhibition against used cell lines.
We established the model of clonogenic assay with cancer cell lines such as SW-156(kidney), SNU-5(stomach), Hep G2(liver), and WiDr(colon), and we investigated anticancer effect of hydrophobic protein fraction(N-fraction) from Korea red ginseng by using this model. The results of clonogenic assay showed that N-fraction had anticancer activity against SNU-5 above 100 $0.2\mu\textrm{g}$/ml concentration, and did not exhibit anticancer activity against cell lines such as SW-156, WiDr, and Hep G2 up to 1,000 $\mu\textrm{g}$/ml concentration. This result suggests that N-fraction has specially anti-stomach cancerous effect.

This paper presents a 3D carrier-smoothed GNSS/DR (Global Navigation Satellite System/Dead Reckoning) integrated system for precise ground-vehicle trajectory estimation. For precise DR navigation on sloping roads, the AHRS (Attitude Heading Reference System) methodology is employed. By combining the integrated carrier phase of GNSS and DR sensor measurements, a vehicle trajectory with an accuracy of less than 20cm is obtained even when cycle slip or change of visibility occur. In order to supplement the weak GNSS environment with DR successfully, the DR sensor is precisely compensated for using GNSS Doppler measurements when GNSS visibility is good. By integrating a multi-GNSS receiver with low-cost IMU, a precise 3D navigation system for land vehicles is proposed in this paper. For real-time implementation, a decoupled Kalman filter is employed in the integrated system. Through field experiments, the performance of the proposed system is verified in various road environments, including sloping roads, good-visibility areas, high multi-path areas, and under-ground parking areas.
This study investigated the proliferation and DNA synthesis inhibitory effect of concentrations ($0.01\%$, $0.1\%$, $0.25\%$, $0.5\%$) when added whole molecular-, 40 kDa-, or 10 kDa polymannuronate on human colon cancer cells, HT-29, DLD-1, and WiDr, in vitro. In order to determine the proliferation inhibitory effect of low-molecularized polymannuronate, the treatment of whole molecular-, 40 kDa-, 10 kDa-, polymannuronate ($0.25\%$) to the HT-29 cancer cells inhibited proliferation of cancer cells by $41\%$, $69.1\%$, and $75.6\%$, respectively. DLD-1 cancer cell was not relation of molecular weight and concentration. WiDr cancer cell depend on concentration without molecular weight. In addition, whole molecular-, 40 kDa-, 10 kDa poly mannuronate ($0.25\%$) significantly inhibited DNA synthesis of HT-29 cancer .cells by $78\%$, $58\%$, and $56\%$, respectively. And morphological changes not found under microscope by polymannuronate. Therefore polymannuronate would be helpful to colon cancer treatment as well as cancer prevention and this study would be the basic source for further research of polymannuronate.
