  • Down through the years, human needs and desires have required a robot system to work at hazardous environments instead. Current painting task is costly and laborious, and it exposes workers to significant health and safety risks. Automation system offers potential improvement in this area and is especially well suited to the outer-wall painting tasks in concrete structures. This paper introduces the result of gondola-type building management robot(G-BMR) platform and mechanism for moving/tasking on building outer-wall for the outer-wall painting. Its technical and economic feasibility are conducted, and it is concluded that developing G-BMR is physically and economically feasible in this research. And we discuss about the future of G-BMR and automation in construction field.

  • If a wall separates the bounded and unbounded spaces, then the wall's role in transporting the acoustic characteristics of the two spaces is not well defined. In this paper, we attempted to see how the acoustic characteristical of two spaces are really affected by the spatial characteristics of the wall. In order to understand coupling mechanism, we choose a finite space and a semi-infinite space separated by the flexible or rigid wall and an opening. A volume interaction can be occurred in structure boundary and a pressure interaction can be happened in the opening boundary. For its simplicity, without loosing generality, we use rather simplified rectangle model instead of generally shaped model. The source impedance is presented to the various types of boundaries. The distributions of pressure and active intensity are also presented at the cavity and structure-dominated modes. The resulting modification, shifts of mode1 frequencies and changing of standing wave patterns to satisfy both coupled boundary conditions and governing equations, are presented.

  • It is essential to analyze structural vibrations due to turbulent wall pressure fluctuations over a body surface which moves through a fluid, because the vibrations can be a severe source of noise affecting to passengers in airplanes and SONAR performance. Generally, this kind of problems have been solved for very simplified models, e.g. plates, which can be applied to the wavenumber domain analysis. In this paper, a finite element modeling of the wall pressure fluctuations over arbitrary smooth surfaces is investigated. It is found that the modeled wall pressure fluctuation at nodes becomes uncorrelated at higher frequencies and at lower flow speeds, and the response is over-estimated due to the aliased power. Finally, the frequency range available for uncorrelated loading model and two power correction schemes are presented.

  • The main structural system of domestic apartments is the wall-slab system. In such structures, the lack of material strength of wall affects severely on the safety of structures. It is fond frequently that the wall in the apartment structures has lower strength in concrete than the specified. This paper presents the retrofitting method of the reinforced concrete wall with low concrete strength. The tests are performed to investigate the structural behavior and the effects of external reinforcing and thickness increasing on the axial load capacity of walls. Six specimens are tested. As the test results, the external reinforcing method is less effective than thickness increasing method.

  • The main aim of this paper is to investigate the relationship between thickness and height of the axially symmetric cylindrical reinforced concrete (RC) walls by the help of a meta-heuristic optimization procedure. The material cost of the wall which includes concrete, reinforcement and formwork, was chosen as objective function of the optimization problem. The wall thickness, compressive strength of concrete and diameter of reinforcement bars were defined as design variables and tank volume, radius and height of the wall, loading condition and unit cost of material were defined as design constants. Numerical analyses of the wall were conducted by using superposition method (SPM) considering ACI 318-Building code requirements for structural concrete. The optimum wall thickness-height relationship was investigated under three main cases related with compressive strength of concrete and density of the stored liquid. According to the results, the proposed method is effective on finding the optimum design with minimum cost.

  • In the present paper, approximate coordinate transformations for simulation of turbulent flows with active wall motions, leading to a significant reduction in the computational cost while maintaining the numerical accuracy, are presented: the Navier-Stokes equations are coordinate-transformed with an approximation of Taylor-series truncation and neglect of some less-significant terms. The performance of the proposed transformations is evaluated in simulation of the channel flow at Re$\sub$$\tau$/=140 with wall deformations of │η$\sub$m/$\^$+/ 5. The approximate transformations provide flow structures as wall as turbulence statistics in good agreement with those from a complete coordinate transformation [Phys. Fluids 12, 3301 (2000)] and allow 25-30% savings in the CPU time as compared to the complete one.

  • The two dimnesional echocardiography is widely used to evaluate regional wall motion abnormaility, because of its abilities to depict left ventricluar wall motion. A new method, color kinesis is a technology or echocardiographic assessment of left ventricular wall motion. In this paper, we proposed a algorithm or color kinesis which is based on acoustic quantification and automatically detects endocardial motion during systole on a frame-by-frame basis. The echocardiograms were obtained in the short-axis views in normal subjects. Automated edge detection and endocardial contour tracing algorithm was applied to each frames, quantitative analysis based on segmentation was performed, and pre-defined color overlays superimposed on the gray scale images. Segmental analysis of color kinesis provided automated, quantitative diagnosis of regional wall motion abnormality.

  • This paper addresses to the area where the extended collision model is applied. In order to find the optimum shape of wall sprays, the extended model is applied to the nearest cells of just over the impaction wall, spray core or over all. The droplet distribution, wall spray radii, heights and gas flows are shown in all the cases. Those results show that the best spray shape represents in the case applying the extended model just on the impinging wall.

  • The sink mark on boss parts is generated by the volumetric shrinkage that is caused by both the molding thickness and the boss wall thickness. The volumetric shrinkage is caused by packing pressure and its amount tends to decrease by increasing the packing pressure. The packing pressure can therefore increase the flow rate to a boss part and causes the depth of sink mark to increase. As the molding thickness and the boss wall thickness in the boss part can increase the part volume, these may yield bad solidifying and also extend the molding cycle. In this paper, both the injection molding test and the flow analysis were carried out to investigate the effect of sink mark that was generated in the boss wall thickness of injection molded products. The sink mark could also be caused by thickness ratio of boss part. For a given thickness ratio of boss, several molding process parameters such as packing pressure, packing time and melt temperature, affecting to generation of the sink mark were discussed

  • In this paper, we used the V-Q Lissajous‘ figure for studying on the plasma discharge characteristics of the 42 inches AC-PDP. From the V-Q Lissajous‘ figure, we could observe exactly the driving conditions that the self-erasing discharge takes place. At the time, the total wall charges lessened by self-erasing discharge was calculated quantitatively. Beside of the just observation of self-erasing discharge and calculation of the charges lessened, we could find out the optimum driving conditions for inducing the maximum wall charges accumulated on the dielectric layer with measuring the Wall voltage from the V-Q Lissajous' figure.
