The practical virtual compensator, which uses a dynamic multi-leaf collimator (dMLC) and three-dimensional radiation therapy planning (3D RTP) system, was designed. And the feasibility study of the virtual compensator was done to verify that the virtual compensator acts a role as the replacement of the physical compensator. Design procedure consists of three steps. The first step is to generate the isodose distributions from the 3D RTP system (Render Plan, Elekta). Then isodose line pattern was used as the compensator pattern. Pre-determined compensating ratio was applied to generate the fluence map for the compensator design. The second step is to generate the leaf sequence file with Ma's algorithm in the respect of optimum MU-efficiency. All the procedure was done with home-made software. The last step is the QA procedure which performs the comparison of the dose distributions which are produced from the irradiation with the virtual compensator and from the calculation by 3D RTP. In this study, a phantom was fabricated for the verification of properness of the designed compensator. It is consisted of the styrofoam part which mimics irregular shaped contour or the missing tissues and the mini water phantom. Inhomogeneous dose distribution due to the styrofoam missing tissue could be calculated with the RTP system. The film dosimetry in the phantom with and without the compensator showed significant improvement of the dose distributions. The virtual compensator designed in this study was proved to be a replacement of the physical compensator in the practical point of view.

The virtual reality (VR) technology has been used as the application of architectural presentation or simulation tool in the field of industry. The high immersion and intuitive visual information are the great merits of design evaluation or environmental simulation when we are using the virtual environments. But the distortion of distance perception in VR is still a big problem when the accuracy of distance presentation is strictly required. For example, distance estimation is especially important when the virtual environments are applied to the presentational tool for evaluation the space design or planning in the field of architecture. If there are some perception error between the built space in real and represented space in virtual, the accurate design evaluation or modification of design is hard to be carried out during the design development stage. In this paper, we have carried out some experiments about distance estimation in the immersive virtual environments to verify the factors and their influence. We made a hypothesis that the lack of the information for the user in VR causes the different distance estimation from the real world because users are usually comfortable with moving fast and long distance in VR environments compared with moving slow and short distance in real space. So, we carried out basic experiment to prove our hypothesis that the lack of information makes subjects estimate the distance of walking in VR shorter compared with the same distance in real. Also, among the factors that probably affect the distance estimation in VR, we have verified the influence of the image resolution. The influence of resolution degradation of image on the distance estimation was verified with the condition of static and dynamic images. The results showed that the resolution has deep relation with the distance estimation. For example, the subject underestimated the distance at the lower resolution condition. We also found the methods of the making the lower resolution image could affect on the visual perception of subjects.

The osseous or osteocutaneous free fibula flap has become the gold standard for most mandibular reconstructions because of its favorable osseous characteristics. However, disadvantages, such as the time-consuming reconstructive step, difficulty in performing the osteotomies to precisely recreate the shape of the missing segment of mandible and poor bone-to-bone contact play a role in making the surgeons look for alternative flaps. With the advent of computerized design software, which accurately plans complex 3-dimensional reconstructions, has become a process that is more efficient and precise. However, the ability to transfer the computerized plan into the surgical field with stereolithographic models and guides has been a significant development in advancing reconstruction in the maxillofacial regions. The ability to "pre-plan" the case, mirror and superimpose natural structures into diseased and deformed areas, as well as the ability to reproduce these plans with good surgical precision has decreased overall operative time, and has helped facilitate functional and esthetic reconstruction. We describe a complex case treated with this technique, showing the power and elegance of computer assisted maxillofacial reconstruction from the University of Michigan, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery.
Color planning system can be treated as a decision support system which includes both the recommendation of main color and harmonious colors. In this paper, we propose techniques that are useful to enhance the harmonious color recommendation with the main color selected by user. In order to reflect the knowledge about suggestion of harmonious colors, we use Ostwald color harmony theory, that is very systematical and easy to implement. Actually, Ostwald color space is similar to HMMD color model in MPEG-7. Due to the similarity between two color spaces, Ostwald color space can be represented as a virtual HMMD color space. Accordingly, we propose a technique to align the HMMD color space with Ostwald color space, thereby it is capable of enhancing a performance to search the harmonious colors according to Ostwald harmony theory. For recommendation of delicate and more exquisite harmonious colors in equal hue plane, we made the virtual color space continuous. The system can recommend various harmonious colors according to Ostwald color harmony. He(she) can select harmonious colors among the suggestions from the system.
Rural Development Administration (RDA) has developed a manufacturing technology which can increase the amount of platycodin D in Platycodon grandiflorum. A study is needed to estimate the value of this new technology and predict the market demand for a new product. This study estimates additional amount of willingness to pay (WTP) using contingent valuation method (CVM) for a new product with the technology that RDA has developed. The survey was created under virtual health functional foods market of Platycodon grandiflorums. It was conducted with 1,000 adult males and females aged between 19 and 59 years old in 17 major cities and provinces nationwide from December 4 to December 7, 2018. The amount of WTP for the health functional Platycodon grandiflorum was drawn using maxinum likelihood estimation method. The estimated average and median WTP values are 21,933.85 won per person and 10,000 won per person, respectively. The independent factors, including the ratio of monthly average health function food consumption to income, the average monthly income level of a household, and existence of family members or relatives engaged in food and nutrition-related professions in a household, have been shown to have a statistically significant influence on the WTP. This study presents the potential magnitude of health functional food market and the value of the new technology based on health functional food market.

This paper presents a robotic tower-crane system using encoder and gyroscope sensors as path tracking devices. Tower crane work is often associated with falling accidents and industrial disasters. Such problems often incur a loss of time and money for the contractor. For this reason, many studies have been done on an automatic tower crane. As a part of 5-year 23-million-dollar research project in Korea, we are developing a robotic tower crane which aims to improve the safety level and productivity. We selected a luffing tower crane, which is commonly used in urban construction projects today, as a platform for the robotic tower crane system. This system comprises two modules: the automated path planning module and the path tracking module. The automated path planning system uses the 3D Cartesian coordinates. When the robotic tower crane lifts construction material, the algorithm creates a line, which represents a lifting path, in virtual space. This algorithm seeks and generates the best route to lift construction material while avoiding known obstacles from real construction site. The path tracking system detects the location of a lifted material in terms of the 3D coordinate values using various types of sensors including adopts encoder and gyroscope sensors. We are testing various sensors as a candidate for the path tracking device. This specific study focuses on how to employ encoder and gyroscope sensors in the robotic crane These sensors measure a movement and rotary motion of the robotic tower crane. Finally, the movement of the robotic tower crane is displayed in a virtual space that synthesizes the data from two modules: the automatically planned path and the tracked paths. We are currently field-testing the feasibility of the proposed system using an actual tower crane. In the next step, the robotic tower crane will be applied to actual construction sites with a following analysis of the crane's productivity in order to ascertain its economic efficiency.

The aim of this systematic review was to collect evidence on the following 10 technical aspects of glenoid baseplate fixation in reverse total shoulder arthroplasty (rTSA): screw insertion angles; screw orientation; screw quantity; screw length; screw type; baseplate tilt; baseplate position; baseplate version and rotation; baseplate design; and anatomical safe zones. Five literature libraries were searched for eligible clinical, cadaver, biomechanical, virtual planning, and finite element analysis studies. Studies including patients >16 years old in which at least one of the ten abovementioned technical aspects was assessed were suitable for analysis. We excluded studies of patients with: glenoid bone loss; bony increased offset-reversed shoulder arthroplasty; rTSA with bone grafts; and augmented baseplates. Quality assessment was performed for each included study. Sixty-two studies were included, of which 41 were experimental studies (13 cadaver, 10 virtual planning, 11 biomechanical, and 7 finite element studies) and 21 were clinical studies (12 retrospective cohorts and 9 case-control studies). Overall, the quality of included studies was moderate or high. The majority of studies agreed upon the use of a divergent screw fixation pattern, fixation with four screws (to reduce micromotions), and inferior positioning in neutral or anteversion. A general consensus was not reached on the other technical aspects. Most surgical aspects of baseplate fixation can be decided without affecting fixation strength. There is not a single strategy that provides the best outcome. Therefore, guidelines should cover multiple surgical options that can achieve adequate baseplate fixation.
Many of penthouse apartments began to be built and distributed in Korea from the 2000s. However, we have a transformed definition from the international concept of penthouse. It seems that the penthouse apartments in Korea have a confined definition as a luxury and privileged house-we often find it out from advertisements of newly built apartments. In this thesis, therefore, it needs to make a clear and substantial definition of penthouse. And on the base of this definition, this study is intended to analyze planes of penthouse apartments which are distributed recently. It is in order to find out positive aspects of penthouse apartments and to make practical application of this analysis. The process of this study for plane-planning is as follows. Firstly, it is investigated and analyzed that external factors that have an effect on plane-planning such as locations and types of penthouse apartments. Secondly, an interior of penthouse apartments are divided into a private, public and outward area. And properties of each area through this research show the way of division and arrangement of plane. Thirdly, methods of connection between spaces is analyzed on the base of results of research for the way of partition. Finally, specific characters of penthouse apartments planning is derived from synthesis of research. In conclusion, analysis of plane-planning of penthouse apartments is summarized as follows. The majority of penthouse apartments is arranged to small portions of households and on higher stories in apartment which is situated around Han River or public parks. These external factors influence the plane-planning in both the interior and exterior way. For the exterior planning in space, it becomes important to design bays as many as possible in contact with outside in order to satisfy demands for fine prospects. It is also important to plan extra places naturally such as a terrace in order to provide virtual grounding. In the interior planning, a large size of interior induces to develop space for linking between each area, such as corridors or extra rooms. This makes it possible that the private area is linked to each other, at the same time it has its own distinctiveness according to its usage.
Path planning is gaining more weight in computer games and virtual reality as the number of self-moving characters increases. In the roadmap approach, the map of possible paths is built in advance to plan paths for a character, whose advantage is to provide high-quality paths. On the other hand, a disadvantage is that the road map doesn't reflect properties of characters such as their sizes because they move on the same map once the road map is constructed. In this paper we propose an efficient method to build a different road map for each character so that it can use its own map for path-planning. This method is efficient because the whole map is built once by applying the Visibility Graph regardless of the number of characters and walkable paths are incrementally inserted according to the sizes of characters. The effects of using separate roadmaps are demonstrated through simulations and the trade-offs accompanied with these effects are analyzed.

Design of a high-speed railway line requires collaboration of heterogeneous application systems and of engineers with different background. Object-based 3D models with metadata can be a shared information model for the effective collaborative design. In this paper, railway infrastructure information model is proposed to enable integrated and inter-operable works throughout the life-cycle of the railway infrastructures, from planning to maintenance. In order to develop the model, object-based 3-D models were built for a 10km railway among Korea high-speed railway lines. The model has basically three information layers for designers, contractors and an owner, respectively. Prestressed concrete box-girders are the most common superstructure of bridges. The design information layer has metadata on requirements, design codes, geometry, analysis and so on. The construction layer has data on drawings, real data for material and products, schedules and so on. The maintenance layer for the owner has the final geometry, material data, products and their suppliers and so on. These information has its own data architecture which is derived from similar concept of product breakdown structure(PBS) and work breakdown structure(WBS). The constructed RIIM for the infrastructures of the high-speed railway was successfully applied to various areas such as design check, structural analysis, automated estimation, construction simulation, virtual viewing, and digital mock-up. The integrated information model can realize virtual construction system for railway lines and dramatically increase the productivity of the whole engineering process.
