  • In research on behavioral studies, significant attention has been paid to the stage-sequential process for multiple latent class variables. We now explore the stage-sequential process of multiple latent class variables using the multivariate latent class profile analysis (MLCPA). A latent profile variable, representing the stage-sequential process in MLCPA, is formed by a set of repeatedly measured categorical response variables. This paper proposes the extended MLCPA in order to explain an association between the latent profile variable and the latent group variable as a form of a two-dimensional contingency table. We applied the extended MLCPA to the National Longitudinal Survey on Youth 1997 (NLSY97) data to investigate the association between of developmental progression of depression and substance use behaviors among adolescents who experienced Authoritarian parental styles in their youth.

  • This paper discusses an approach for detecting a new edge in color images. The color image is to be represented by a vector field, and the color image edges are detected as differences in the local vector statistics. This method is based on the calculation for the vector angle between two adjacent pixels. Unlike Euclidean distance in RGB space, the vector angle distinguishes the differences in chromaticity, independent of luminance or intensity. The proposed approach can easily accommodate concepts, such as variable template edge detection, as well as the latest developments in vector order statistics for color image processing. In this paper, it is used not a conventional fixed template operator but a variable template operator The variable template is implemented and experimental results for digital color images are included.

  • Association rule mining searches for interesting relationships among Items in a given database. Association rules are frequently used by retail stores to assist in marketing, advertising, floor placement, and inventory control. There are three primary quality measures for association rule support and confidence and lift. In this paper we present association rule mining based antecedent variables. We call these rules to antecedent association rules. An antecedent variable is a variable that occurs before the independent variable and the dependent variable. For example, in politics, a special interest group may want to support a politician who backs their cause. The group would look for a candidate who supports their views and support his election. Once in office, the politician would then conduct policy that supports the interest group.

  • In this paper we propose a robust version of varying coefficient models, which is based on the regularized regression with L1 regularization. We use the iteratively reweighted least squares procedure to solve L1 regularized objective function of varying coefficient model in locally weighted regression form. It provides the efficient computation of coefficient function estimates and the variable selection for given value of smoothing variable. We present the generalized cross validation function and Akaike information type criterion for the model selection. Applications of the proposed model are illustrated through the artificial examples and the real example of predicting the effect of the input variables and the smoothing variable on the output.

  • This paper reviews the definition of highly variable drug(HVD), the present regulatory recommendations and the approaches proposed in the literature to deal with the bioequivalence issues of HVD. The concept and the statistical approach of scaled average bioequivalence(SABE) is introduced and discussed with the current regulatory methods. The recommendations for SABE approach are proposed and the further study topics related to HVDs are also presented.

  • In this paper, the peristaltic flow of Psedoplastic fluid with variable viscosity in an asymmetric channel is examined. The bionic effects by means of magnetohydrodynamics (MHD) are taken into account. The assumptions of long wave length and low Reynolds number are taken into account. The basic equations governing the flow are first reduced to a set of ordinary differential equation by using appropriate transformation for variables and then solve by using perturbation method. The effect of physical parameters on the pressure rise, velocity and pressure gradient are illustrated graphically. The trapping phenomenon is analyzed through stream lines. A suitable comparison has also been made as a limiting case of the considered problem.

  • There are many uses of control charts in health-care monitoring and in public-health surveillance. For example, control charts are used in monitoring and improvement of hospital performance, in monitoring chronic diseases and infectious diseases, and so on. We introduce the Variable Life-Adjusted Display (VLAD) chart and propose the method for choosing control limits of the VLAD chart to give specified in-control properties.

  • ARES plot (Cook and Weisberg, 1987) idea is applied to a multiple regression model in which the relation between a response variable and some independent variable is nonlinear. This method is expected to show the impact on the function to which and independent variable should be transformed, as a variable is smoothly added to the model.
