  • A study of scaling and heat transfer has been carried out for a vertical tube evaporator in which $CaSO_4$ saturated water flows upward. Experimental apparatus including vacuum chambers and heaters has been designed and manufactured to study scaling phenomena for three different pressures(1atm, 0.27atm and 0.16atm). Overall heat transfer coefficients have been measured and shown to decrease with time as scaling proceeds. After the end of experiments, the vertical tube has been cut to measure the thickness of scale at different heights. Below the height where the bulk fluid temperature does not reach saturated temperature, the thickness of scale increases, however, beyond that height occurring saturated condition, the thickness does not vary much or even decreases a little. The measured fouling resistances also support these variations of scale thickness.

  • As a brush DC motor, the brushless DC motor is also operated by DC power supply but has no mechanical contacts occurred by a brush or a commutator. Though the performance of BLDC motor is almost similar with that of DC motor, the BLDC motor has the advantage of the high speed responsibility, the high controllability, and the high effectiveness. The control valve using the BLDC motor, which excludes the burnout effect provoked possibly by the vacuum condition during the flight, is employed for the upper stage of a launch vehicle. For the component level analysis, the dynamic response characteristics of BLDC and DC motors to the same design input sources have been studied in using AMEsim.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a portable electronic nose system to measure volatile components of agricultural and food products. Also, a graphical operating software to control the electronic nose system and to acquire signals through the Internet was developed. An array of five commercial metal oxide gas sensors was used to detect various volatile gas components of target samples. Transient and steady state signals were analyzed to extract variables related to sample states, To find optimal operating conditions of the system, several experiments were performed with different gas chambers, vacuum pumps, gas sampling temperatures, and sample container sizes. The patterns of gas sensor signals were analysed to find effects of the various conditions.

  • The study about three-phase synthetic making test using DC power has been performed in order to increase the making test capacity on Vacuum Circuit Breaker. And, it made possible to solve the limitations that short-circuit testing facilities can not fulfill the testing requirements of VCB exceeding three-phase 36[kV] 31.5[kA]. By using DC power and high speed spark-gap switch, this method made the equivalence with the pre-arc that occurred during the making process under the fault condition of power system. As results, KERI(Korea Electrotechnology Research Institute) could have capacity to carry out type test for VCB under three-phase 52[kV] 40[kV], which satisfies the IEC Standard.

  • In this paper PU control scheme is presented. The proposed scheme has following features. The one is oft-starting method which is used for preventing to flow large current in motor phase winding when motor starts. The ther is the selection of the level of the over current. The first feature is implemented by increasing the PWM duty lowly, the second feature is implemented by limiting the magnitude of the phase current level by which the over heat f motor by copper losses and magnetic saturation decreases. By the analysis using FEM considering load condition, the peed of mode transition from PW to single pulse control is selected and confirmed by simulation that there is no ver current occurs during the mode transition. For the verification of proposed scheme, the simulation using MATLAB Simulink with considering non-linearity of inductance profile from FEM analysis is performed and the experiment with SRM drive system which has the DSP controller and single Phase SRM are peformed.

  • For the applications in the ultra-large-scale-integration (ULSI) metallization processing copper thin films have been prepared by metal organic chemical vapor deposition (MOCVD) technology on TiN/Si substrates. The films have been deposited with varying the experimental conditions of substrate temperatures and copper source vapor pressures. The films were then annealed in a vacuum condition after the deposition and the annealing effect to the electrical conductivity of the films was measured. The grain size and the crystallinity of the films were observed to be increased by the post annealing and the electrical conductivity was also increased. The best electrical property of the copper film was obtained by in-situ annealing treatment at above 40$0^{\circ}C$ for the sample prepared at 18$0^{\circ}C$ of the substrate temperature.

  • This paper described on the fabrication of microstructures by DRIE(Deep Reactive Ion Etching). SOI(Si-on-insulator) electric devices with buried cavities are fabricated by SDB technology and electrochemical etch-stop. The cavity was fabricated the upper handling wafer by Si anisotropic etch technique. SDB process was performed to seal the fabricated cavity under vacuum condition at -760 mm Hg. In the SDB process, captured air and moisture inside of the cavities were removed by making channels towards outside. After annealing(1000$^{\circ}C$, 60 min.), the SDB SOI structure was thinned by electrochemical etch-stop. Finally, it was fabricated microstructures by DRIE as well as a accurate thickness control and a good flatness.

  • In Japan for protecting the slides of steep sloped areas covering the face of slopes by sprayed mortar became popular since 1970s. But, these mortar walls are getting older now. In this background, this study aims to find ways to develop a diagnostic technique of these faces of slope without physically contacting or destroying them. In doing so, we have used heat infrared imaging processing method and developed a simulation model to predict the weak portion of the wall. The results revealed that, by following the model vacuum of mortar wall can be detected having thickness up to 15cm.
