  • We consider the problem of using control charts to monitor more than one parameter with emphasis on simultaneously monitoring the mean and variance. The fixed sampling interval (FSI) control charts are modified to use variable sampling interval (VSI) control charts depending on what is being observed from the data. In general, approaches of monitoring the mean and variance simultaneously is to use separate charts for each parameter and a combined chart. In this paper, we use three basic strategies which are separate Shewhart charts for each parameter, a combined Shewhart chart and a combined CUSUM chart. We showed that a combined VSI CUSUM chart is comparatively more efficient than any other chart if the shifts in both mean and variance are small.

  • There are many researches showing that when a process change has occurred, variable sampling intervals (VSI) control chart is better than the fixed sampling interval (FSI) control chart in terms of reducing the required time to signal. When the process engineers use VSI control procedure, frequent switching between different sampling intervals can be a complicating factor. However, average number of samples to signal (ANSS), which is the amount of required samples to signal, and average time to signal (ATS) do not provide any control statistics about switching performances of VSI charts. In this study, we evaluate numerical switching performances of multivariate VSI EWMA chart including average number of switches to signal (ANSW) and average switching rate (ASWR). In addition, numerical study has been carried out to examine how to improve the performance of considered chart with accumulate-combine approach under several different smoothing constant and sample size. In conclusion, process engineers, who want to manage the correlation coefficients of related quality variables, are recommended to make sample size as large and smoothing constant as small as possible under permission of process conditions.

  • Previous VSI control chart works have been done on quality variable whose distribution is normal. But there are many situations in which hte assumption of not a, pp.opriate. Also, in many industrial processes, the interest is to monitor the number of defectives. In this paper, we will take the existing properties of VSI control chart developed for the normal distribution and a, pp.y them to the np-chart based on the discrete binomial distribution. We will consider the CUSUM chart for the number of defectives. Here, the interesting object is to compute the VSI ATS for CUSUM control chart using Markov chain a, pp.oach and to compare FSI ATS and VSI ATS.

  • Today, the statistical process control (SPC) in manufacture environment is an important role at the process by the productivity improvement of the manufacturing systems. The control chart in this statistical method is widely used as an important statistical tool to find the assignable cause that provoke the change of the process parameters such as the mean of interest or standard deviation. But the traditional SPC don't grasp the change of process according to the points fallen the near control limits because of monitoring the variance of process such as the fixed sampling interval and the sample size and handle the cost of the aspect of these sample point. The control chart can be divided into the statistical and economic design. Generally, the economic design considers the cost that maintains the quality level of process. But it is necessary to consider the cost of the process improvement by the learning effects. This study does the economic design in the VSI $\bar X$ control chart and added the concept of loss function of Taguchi in the cost model. Also, we preyed that the VSI $\bar X$ control chart is better than the FSI $\bar X$ in terms of the economic aspects and proposed the standard of the process improvement using the VSI $\bar X$ control chart.

  • In this design the sampling interval that each sampling time changes according to the valuse of the previous to sample statistics, sample mean and ranges. The VSI scheme uses large sample if the sample statistics appear near in side the control limits and smaller sample otherwise. The efficiency of the VSI scheme is compare to the FSI. It is shown that VSI control chart improves the confidence of the procedure and performens better than FSI control chart.

  • Performances of variable sampling interval(VSI) multivariate control charts with accumulate-combine approach for monitoring mean vector of p related quality variables were investigated. Shewhart control chart is also proposed to compare the performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts. Numerical comparisons show that performances of CUSUM and EWMA charts are more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts, and VSI chart is more efficient than fixed sampling interval(FSI) chart. We also found that performances of the CUSUM or EWMA chart with accumulate-combine approach are substantially efficient than those of Shewhart chart.

  • The basic of the VSI charts is that if the sample statistic computed after a sample is taken shows some indication of a process change than the sampling interval before the next sample should be short otherwise long. This paper was shown the VSS chart can be considerably more efficient than the FSS chart and the effectiveness of VSI R chart with S chart used for monitoring a process standard deviation.

  • Even though the ad hoc Shewhart methods remain controversial due to various mathematical flaws, there is little disagreement among researchers and practitioners when a set of process data has a skewness distribution. In the context and language of process control, the error related to the process data shows that time to signal increases when a control parameter shifts to a skewness direction. In real-world industrial settings, however, quality practitioners often need to consider a skewness distribution. To address this situation, we developed an enhanced design method to utilize advantages of the traditional attribute control chart and to overcome its associated shortcomings. The proposed design method minimizes bias, i.e., an average time to signal for the shift of process from the target value (ATS) curve, as well as it applies a variable sampling interval (VSI) method to an attribute control chart for detecting a process shift efficiently. The results of the factorial experiment obtained by various parameter circumstances show that the VSI c control chart using nearly unbiased ATS design provides the smallest decreasing rate in ATS among other charts for all experimental cases.

  • In a multivariate normal production process Np(µ,Σ), a chart combining three EWMA charts with accumulate-combine method for µ, variance components of Σ, and off-diagonal elements of Σ, into a EWMA (exponentially weighted moving average) chart is considered, which is called a combined EWMA chart. Through simulation work, the proposed combined EWMA chart's numerical performance and properties are examined. The simulation results show that the proposed combined EWMA chart, which is simultaneously monitoring all the process parameters of multivariate normal production process, works effectively in the perspective of means, variances and correlation coefficients. In addition, the combined EWMA chart is extended to VSI chart.

  • Markovian EWMA control chart for simultaneously monitoring mean vector of the several correlated quality characteristics is investigated. Properties of multivariate Shewhart chart and EWMA chart are evaluated for matched FSI (fixed sampling interval) and VSI(variable sampling interval) scheme. We obtained VSI EWMA chart is more efficient than Shewhart chart for small or moderate shifts. And, we obtained stablized numerical results with Markov chain method when the number of transient state is greater than 100.
