  • The rapid development of information technology makes people's lifestyles constantly changing, bringing great changes to the library building. As a product of the development of public libraries, community libraries have an important impact on community cohesion and revitalization through providing targeted learning and leisure services to residents. Under the trend of social and community development, the community library's user-centered space must adapt to the diverse needs of community users and make the self-improvement. First of all, this study summarizes the concept of community and community libraries through literature review, and then make a theoretical investigation on the composition of user-centered space. Finally this study bases on the cases of community library buildings in the United States and Britain, and initially explores the composition of user-centered space in these libraries, and then analyzes and summarizes the architectural characteristics of it. Exploring how community can be activated and cohesive through community libraries user-centered space. Hope that this study can provide some reference to the contemporary community library design.

  • To develop high-quality software systems satisfying the customer's needs, user-centered design (UCD) process has been emphasized in the area of human-computer interaction. And component-based development (CBD) has been extensively studied to realize a systematic software reuse, thereby reducing the time-to-market and the development cost. Balanced integration of user-centered design process and CBD process will be a promising way for successful software construction, which effectively achieves three goals: the quality of software, the cost of software development, and the time-to-market. However, traditional CBD methodology seems to lack the concept of user-centered design process and the relevant methods. This paper proposes a way of incorporating user-centered design process into a CBD methodology. Firstly, this paper gives the brief introduction of UCD. Secondly, we explain typical UCD activities and methods along the phase of systems development lifecycle and propose the use of usability maturity model (UMM) for integrating UCD activities and methods with those of CBD methodology. Finally, as a case study, we describe the results of comparing the UCD activities to the activities of MaRMI-III, which has been developed as a CBD methodology at ETRI.

  • User-Centered Design Approach plays important role in dealing with usability issues for developing modern technology products. Yet it is still questionable whether the User-Centered approach is enough for the development of successful consumer contents since the User-Centered Design is originated from the software engineering field where meeting customers' functional requirement is the most critical aspect in developing a software. However, modern consumer market is already saturated and in order to meet ever increasing consumer requirements, the User-Centered Design approach needs to be expanded. As a way of incorporating the User-Centered Approach into the consumer product development, Jordan suggested the 'Pleasure-based Approach' in industrial design field, which usually generates multi-dimensional user requirements: 1)physical, 2)cognitive, 3)identity and 4) social. It is the current tendency that many portal and community service providers focus on fulfilling both functional and emotional needs for users when developing new items, contents and services. Previously fulfilling consumers' emotional needs solely depend on visual designer's graphical sense and capability. However, taking the customer-centered approach on withdrawing consumers' unknown needs is getting critical in the competitive market environment. This paper reviews different types of user research techniques and categorized into 6 ways based on Kano(1992)'s product quality model. Based on his theory, only performance factors, such as suability, can be identified through the user-centered design approach. The user-centered design approach has to be expanded to include factors include personality, sociability, pleasure, and so on. In order to identify performance as well as excellent factors through user research, a user-research framework was established and tested through the case study, which is ' the development of new online service for teens '. The results of the user research were summarized at the end of the paper and the pros and cons of each research techniques were analyzed.

  • Due to the widespread of COVID-19 pandemics, as the health care supplies. Thus the facial mask has been transformed from personal health product into social epidemic prevention product, and its design is more inclined to be User-centered design. First employed health facial mask which is sold in the market as the method subject, under the concept of " User-centered design", this article analyzes the design elements such as appearance and color of the facial mask. Second used the analysis approach of sample, character and positioning map, this article conducts the comparative analysis research of collected sample and data and find the relationship of User-centered design, purchase tendency and health care facial mask. When the users purchase the mask, through the research on the relationship between the choice of form or color of mask and design element of mask, it can compensate for the blank spot of design and has some references.

  • According to rapid growth of a web environment, usage-centered design is being highlighted. This paper suggests the development step and algorithm to generate a user interface prototype automatically on the basis of usage-centered design. For this purpose, The transition object of the user interface is modeled from requirement analysis, and an modeling rule as well as algorithms of business events are made for the creation of the user interface. Through these processes, visual cohesions of business events become strong and unskilled designers can develop the qualified user interface prototypes. A user's understanding of business tasks can also be improved and prototype iterations reduced.

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze user needs of university libraries for design of user-centered information retrieval system. To do this, 6 kinds of basic system design factors necessary for user-centered information retrieval system design of the university libraries are used. The user needs which should be considered for system design are examined and analyzed through the questionnaires made by user-centered approach according to the design factors.

  • Basic components for multimodal interface, such as speech recognition, speech synthesis, gesture recognition, and multimodal fusion, have their own technological limitations. For example, the accuracy of speech recognition decreases for large vocabulary and in noisy environments. In spite of those technological limitations, there are lots of applications in which speech-oriented multimodal user interfaces are very helpful to users. However, in order to expand application areas for speech-oriented multimodal interfaces, we have to develop the interfaces focused on usability. In this paper, we introduce usability and user-centered design methodology in general. There has been much work for evaluating spoken dialogue systems. We give a summary for PARADISE (PARAdigm for Dialogue System Evaluation) and PROMISE (PROcedure for Multimodal Interactive System Evaluation) that are the generalized evaluation frameworks for voice and multimodal user interfaces. Then, we present usability components for speech-oriented multimodal user interfaces and usability testing guidelines that can be used in a user-centered multimodal interface design process.
