  • In this thesis, As electric railway vehicle's speed becomes faster and faster and functional, the conditions of operation (or running condition) of the vehicle also become complicated and diverse. As the number of electric vehicle increases by enhancement of the running condition, problems are also raised in circulation current, vibration and unstable contact caused by equipment(sporting part for making horizontal between Trolley wire and Messenger wire) and troubles in Ark by un secure contact. This articles shows a method to prevent or to have least problem of vibration, and unstable contact by having constant height of Trolley wire through adjusting the length of Hanger.

  • Purpose: This study investigated the influence of muscle activity of the trunk and lower limb during a bridge exercise using a unstable surface and during one-legged bridge hip abduction in healthy adults. Methods: Nineteen healthy participated in this study (12 males and 7 females, aged $29.0{\pm}5.0$). The participants were instructed to perform the bridge exercises under six different conditions. Trunk and lower limb muscle activation, such as the erector spinae (ES), gluteus maximus (GM), external oblique (EO), and internal oblique (IO), was measured using surface electromyography. The six different bridge exercise conditions were conducted randomly. Data analysis was performed by using the mean scores after three trials of each condition. Results: On the ipsilateral side, muscle activity of the IO, EO, and ES during the hip abduction condition (Single-legged hip abduction bridge, Bridge with use of a ball and single-leg hip abduction, Bridge with use of a sling and single-leg hip abduction) was significantly higher than those during Unstable surface (Bridge with use of a ball, Bridge with use of a sling) and General bridging exercise (p<0.05). In the contralateral side, activities of the GM and EO during Single-legged hip abduction bridge, Bridge with use of a ball and single-leg hip abduction and Bridge with use of a sling and single-leg hip abduction was significantly higher than that during Bridge with use of a ball, Bridge with use of a sling and General bridging exercise (p<0.05). Conclusion: This study demonstrated that performing a bridge exercise with use of a sling and single-leg hip abduction had an effect on trunk and gluteal muscle activation. The findings of this study suggest that this training method can be clinically effective for unilateral training and for patients with hemiplegia.

  • It is very difficult that a previous surveillance system and vehicle detection system find objects on a limited and unstable illumination condition. This paper proposes a robust method of adaptively updating a reference background image for solving problems that are generated by the unstable illumination. The first input image is set up as the reference background image, and is divided into three block categories according to an edge component. Then a block state analysis, which uses a rate of change of the brightness, a stability, a color information, and an edge component on each block, is applied to the input image. On the reference background image, neighbourhood blocks having the same state of a updated block are merged as a block. The proposed method can generate a robust reference background image because it distinguishes a moving object area from an unstable illumination. The proposed method very efficiently updates the reference background image from the point of view of the management and the processing time. In order to demonstrate the superiority of the proposed stable manner in situation that an illumination quickly changes.

  • Unstable angina pectoris is often premonitory to an acute myocardial infarction. Surgical revascularization in this syndrome is of great potential benefit and relatively low mortality. A patient with unstable angina pectoris is reported. A 65-year-old man complained of dyspnea and pain in the left anterior chest. The pain was brought on by mild exercise, occurred at rest and sleeping time. The pain worsened over a month period and more aggravated in intensity and duration. Physical examination showed no abnormalities except hypertension and laboratory data were within normal limits. His anginal pain was not relived by nitroglycerin ingestion. Preoperative coronary angiograms revealed significant obstruction [>90%] of left anterior descending coronary artery. Aorto-left anterior descending coronary bypass with autogenous saphenous vein used as conduit was performed. The postoperative course was uneventful and he was discharged on 16th postoperative day in a healthy condition.

  • The objective of this study is to obtain the unstable characteristics of the high-speed two-dimensional jet impinging normally onto a flat plate. The study is based on the feedback model and the experiment of the frequency characteristics of the impinging tones. Using the experimental data for the tonal frequencies of the impinging tones the convection speed of the unstable jet is obtained along with all the other features. Three kinds of unstable modes are clarified: asymmetric $A_{1}$ and $A_{2}$ and symmetric S. The condition for the excitation of each mode is found in terms of Strouhal number and Reynolds number. The convection speed is estimated and discussed in comparison with existing theoretical models. It is found that the convection speed increases with frequency when the mode is asymmetric, but decreases when it is symmetric. In addition, the characteristics of the high-speed impinging jet are compared with the low-speed impinging jet.

  • Study on the chaotic stirring has been performed numerically and experimentally for a shallow rectangular tank accompanying a vortex shedding. The model is composed of a rectangular tank with a vertical plate with a length half the width of the tank. The tank is subject to a horizontal sinusoidal oscillation. The chaotic stirring was analysed by Poincare sections, unstable manifolds and Lyapunov exponents. As Reynolds number is increased the stirring effect is decreased due to the growth of a regular regions near the lower surface of the tank. In the other hand decrease of Reynolds number gives a weaker vortex shedding resulting in the poorer stirring effect. It was also found that the Lyapunov exponent is the highest at the dimensionless period of 1.3-1.5, which seems to be the best condition for the efficient stirring. The experimental visualization for the deformation of materials exhibits the striation pattern similar to the unstable manifold obtained numerically.

  • When emergency evasion during running is required, a driver sometimes causes a vehicle to drift, that is, a condition in which the rear wheels skid due to rapid steering. Under such conditions, the vehicle enters a very unstable state and often becomes uncontrollable. An unstable state of the vehicle induced by rapid steering was simulated and the effect of differential steering assistance was examined. Results indicate that, in emergency evasion while cornering and during which the vehicle begins to drift, unstable behavior like spins can be avoided by differential steering assistance and both the stability and control of the vehicle is improved remarkably. In addition, reduction of overshoot during spin evasion by the differential steering assistance has been shown to enable the vehicle to return to a state of stability in a short time in emergency evasion during straight-line running. Moreover, the effectiveness of differential steering assistance during emergency evasion was confirmed using a driving simulator.

  • Unstable sustain discharges can occur at the bottom cells of the panel at high temperature. To solve this phenomenon, the wall charge variation during an address period was investigated. A test panel of 7.5 inch XGA level was used and one green cell was measured. In order to realize operating condition equal to that of the bottom cells of 50 inch panel, the addressing stress pulses are applied. It seems that the resultant wall charge loss during address period increased with increase of temperature as well as the addressing stress pulse voltage. Therefore it results in unstable discharge during sustain period.

  • This paper describes motion stability of a spar platform with and without a damping plate in regular waves. The heave and pitch motion equation is derived in terms of Mathieu equation and the stability diagram is obtained. It is shown that the spar platform with damping plate has smaller unstable region than that without damping plate in the stability diagram. Model tests are carried out to verify the mathematical analysis. Under the condition that the pitch natural period is approximately double the heave natural period and the heave motion is amplified at heave resonance, unstable pitch motions are evoked. However the unstable motion is stabilized in cases of spar platform with damping plate. Therefore the damping plate is an effective device to stabilize the motion of spar platform.

  • This paper proposes a stabilizing controller for the multirate sampled-data systems, which have a periodic output measurement scheme, in case of the open-loop unstable plant. A sufficient condition for maintaining observability in the multirate sampled-data systems is derived and a design strategy for filtered disturbance rejection is proposed. We also propose a design method for the plant output estimator. It is shown that the proposed pre-stabilizing controllers can stabilize the plant through the simulations. The proposed controller has IMC structure, and can be decomposed into the pre-stabilizing controller, the plant output estimator, the filtered disturbance estimator and the inverse of the fast pre-stabilized plant model. We assume that the plant is open-loop unstable and the disturbance consists of a sum of finite number of sinusoids with different frequencies. Some examples are presented for illustrations.
