  • In this study, by using nickel chloride solution as a raw material, a nano-sized nickel oxide powder with an average particle size below 50 nm was produced by spray pyrolysis reaction. A spray pyrolysis system was specially designed and built for this study. The influence of nozzle tip size on the properties of the produced powder was examined. When the nozzle tip size was 1 mm, the particle size distribution was more uniform than when other nozzle tip sizes were used and the average particle size of the powder was about 15 nm. When the nozzle tip size increases to 2 mm, the average particle size increases to roughly 20 nm, and the particle size distribution becomes more uneven. When the tip size increases to 3 mm, particles with an average size of 25 nm and equal to or less than 10 nm coexist and the particle size distribution becomes much more uneven. When the tip size increases to 5 mm, large particles with average size of 50 nm partially exist, mostly consisting of minute particles with average sizes in the range of 15~25 nm. When the tip size increases from 1 mm to 2 mm, the XRD peak intensities greatly increase while the specific surface area decreases. When the tip size increases to 3 mm, the XRD peak intensities decrease while the specific surface area increases. When the tip size increases to 5 mm, the XRD peak intensities increase again while the specific surface area decreases.

  • Randomly patterned and wet chemical etching processes were used to treat anti-glare of display cover glasses. The surface and optical properties of grain size and surface morphology controlled by randomly patterned etching and wet chemical solution etching were investigated. The surface morphology and roughness of the etched samples were examined using a spectrophotometer and a portable surface roughness (Ra) measuring instrument, respectively. The gloss caused by reflection from the glass surface was measured at $60^{\circ}$ using a gloss meter. The surface of the sample etched by the doctor-blade process was more uniform than that obtained from a screen pattern etching process at gel state etching process of the first step. The surface roughness obtained from the randomly patterned etching process depended greatly on the mesh size, which in turn affected the grain size and pattern formation. The surface morphology and gloss obtained by the etching process in the second step depended primarily on the mesh size of the gel state etching process of the first step. In our experimental range, the gloss increased on decreasing the grain size at a lower mesh size for the first step process and for longer reaction times for the second step process.

  • In order to control the grain size, the spark plasma sintering technique is applied for the manufacturing of Cu-26.7Al-4.05AI(wt.%) shape memory alloy with pure Cu, Zn, and Al element powders. The sintering processes were carried out under different atmospheres. The sintered bodies were denser under Ar or Ar+4%$H_2$gas atmosphere than under vacuum. With use of small-sized powders, a very small average grain size of 2∼3 $\mu\textrm{m}$ was obtained, but the single phase was not formed. With the large-sized powders the single austenitic phase was observed with the average grain size of $70∼72\mu\textrm{m}$. When the different size of raw powders was mixed, it is confirmed that the average grain size of the manufactured alloys was 15 $\mu\textrm{m}$ with single austenitic phase, but the distribution of grain size was not uniform.

  • This study is to propose reduction effect of scour depth and a optimum size of circular collar through experimental analyses with various collar sizes. To do so, we carried out hydraulic model experiments. In the case of with considering the collar, the effect of reduction of scour depth increased according to the increase of collar size. When size of collar is 2 as the ratio of collar diameter(W) to pier diameter(D), scour depth is decreased about 67% and deposition height is increased about 70%. The optimal size of collar proposed in this study is W/D=2 by analyzing reduction effect of scour depth, size of scour hole, and deposition height.

  • In this paper, the design for the shaped offset cassegrain antenna system combined with corrugated feed horn is presented. First, spherical-mode wave theory is applied to the corrugated conical horn and its radiation patterns are investigated. Using the radiation patterns, design data of the corrugated conical horn are obtained by efficiency investigation of horn antenna. When the investigation is completed, the flare angle and length of the corrugated conical horn is determined. Next, the main and sub-reflector is designed using Snellis law and the conservation principle of energy. Then the uniform direction and energy density of the traveling wave at the aperture of the main-reflector is obtained. The maximum size of the main-reflector is determined by investigation of the illumination and spillover efficiency. Finally, the curvature of the main-reflector is modified to satisfy the condition of the uniform phase. From the calculated efficiencies, the designed site of the main-reflector and sub-reflector, system gain of the shaped offset cassegrain antenna has been obtained 40.5dB in Ka-band frequency. It has better characteristics than the result of SABOR with 39dB gain.

  • ZnO varistors were prepared by the organochemical method which used citric acid and ethylene glycol as gelling agents. The microstructure of the sintered specimens exhibited small grains, uniform grain size distribution, and few intragranular pores. Thermal decomposition of the organic resin formed during the powder preparation process was completed around 450$^{\circ}C$. No significant changes were observed in microstructure and current voltage characteristic with respect to calcination temperatures. A major advantage of the organochemical method used in this experiment is a possible uniform mixing of trace amounts of dopants. Therefore, this powder preparation method seems promising in investigating the effect of Li or In ion, which is added in ppm level to ZnO varistors, on the pulse respose characteristic.

  • The present work is concerned with three-dimensional finite element analysis of the hollow section extrusion process using a porthole die. The effects of related design parameters are discussed through the finite element simulation for extrusion of a triply-connected rectangular tubular section. For economic computation, mismatching refinement, an efficient domain decomposition method with different mesh density for each subdomain, is implemented. In order to obtain the uniform flow at the outlet, design parameters such as the hole size and the hole position are investigated and compared through the numerical analysis. Comparing the velocity distribution with that of the original design, it is concluded that the design modification enables more uniform flow characteristics. The analysis results are then successfully reflected on the industrial porthole die design.

  • Tracing the study of the burst test of steam generator tube, few studies have been reported to effect of external pressure acting on secondary-side in service condition. In this study the burst tests of Inconel 690TT were conducted in order to evaluate burst strength characteristics under the effect of external pressure. We obtained the result that the burst strength of Inconel 690TT increased when external pressure increased while both total circumferential elongation and uniform burst elongation were not affected. Also, according to the increased of external pressure, the size of the burst opening became smaller and the tear was getting severe.

  • Two types of new methods with variable time steps are proposed in order to valuate binary options efficiently. Type I changes adaptively the size of the time step at each time based on the magnitude of the local error, while Type II combines two uniform meshes. The new methods are hybrid finite difference methods, namely starting the computation with a fully implicit finite difference method for a few time steps for accuracy then performing a ${\theta}$-method during the rest of computation for efficiency. Numerical experiments for standard European vanilla, binary and American options show that both Type I and II variable time step methods are much more efficient than the fully implicit method or hybrid methods with uniform time steps.

  • In the paper we study the finite-time ruin probability in a general risk model with constant interest force, in which the claim sizes are pairwise quasi-asymptotically independent and arrive according to an arbitrary counting process, and the premium process is a general stochastic process. For the case that the claim-size distribution belongs to the consistent variation class, we obtain an asymptotic formula for the finite-time ruin probability, which holds uniformly for all time horizons varying in a relevant infinite interval. The obtained result also includes an asymptotic formula for the infinite-time ruin probability.
