This paper proposes an adaptive controller for partially known system and applies to a two-wheeled Welding Mobile Robot (WMR) to track a reference welding path at a constant velocity of the welding point. To design the tracking controller, the errors from WMR to steel wall is defined, and the controller is designed to drive the errors to zero as fast as desired. Additionally, a scheme of error measurement is implemented on the WMR to meet the need of the controller. In this paper, the system moments of inertia are considered to be partially unknown parameters which are estimated using update laws in adaptive control scheme. The simulations and experiments on a welding mobile robot show the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

In this paper, a nonlinear controller based on adaptive sliding-mode method which has a sliding surface vector including new boundary function is proposed and applied to a two-wheeled voiding mobile robot (WMR). This controller makes the welding point of WMR achieve tracking a reference point which is moving on a smooth curved welding path with a desired constant velocity. The mobile robot is considered in view of a kinematic model and a dynamic model in Cartesian coordinates. The proposed controller can overcome uncertainties and external disturbances by adaptive sliding-mode technique. To design the controller, the tracking error vector is defined, and then the new sliding is proposed to guarantee that the error vector converges to zero asymptotically. The stability of the dynamic system will be shown through the Lyapunov method. The simulations is shown to prove the effectiveness of the proposed controller.

The research on two-wheeled inverted pendulum (TWIP) mobile robots has been ongoing in a number of robotic laboratories around the world. In this paper, we consider a robust controller design for the TWIP mobile robot driving on uniform slopes. We use a 2 degree-of-freedom (DOF) model which is obtained by restricting the spinning motion in a 3 DOF motion dynamic equation. In order to design the robust controller guaranteeing stability of the TWIP mobile robot driving on inclined surface, we propose a sliding mode control based on the theory of variable structure systems and design a sliding surface using the theory of the linear quadratic regulation (LQR). For simulation, the dynamic model of the TWIP mobile robot is constructed using Mathworks' Simulink and the sliding mode control is also implemented using Simulink. From simulation results, we show that the proposed controller effectively controls the TWIP mobile robot driving on slopes.

Traditional automobile or 2-wheeled robot have limitations on mobility because of their mechanical structure. As traditional automobile is being replaced by electric cars, robot technology is applied to the car industry. In robotics, many researchers worked on omnidirectional mobile robot and produced lots of noticeable results. However in many of the results, specialized wheels such as Mecanum wheels are required. That imposes restrictions on robot speed and outdoor driving. We proposed a 2-wheeled modular robot that has omnidirectional mobility without using specialized wheels. In this paper, we propose a 4-wheeled omnidirectional mobile robot that consists of those two modular robots. The proposed robot adopts electric brakes to combine wheel housings and the robot body or to separate wheel housings from the robot body. Two absolute-type encoders and four incremental encoders are used to control the position of the wheel housing and velocities of the wheels. The proposed robot has omnidirectional mobility and can move fast and outdoor with normal tire wheels. We implemented the proposed robot and the feasibility and stability of the robot is verified by two separate experiments.

A two-wheeled balancing mobile robot (TWBMR) has the characteristics of both nonlinear and underactuated system. In this paper, the disturbances acting on a TWBMR are classified into body disturbance and wheel disturbance. Additionally, we describe a nonlinear disturbance observer, which is suitable as a single input multi-output (SIMO) system for the longitudinal motion of TWBMR. Finally, we propose a reasonable disturbance compensation technique that combines the indirect reference input of equilibrium point and the direct torque compensation input. Simulations and experimental results show that the proposed disturbance compensation method is an effective way to achieve robust postural stability, specifically on inclined terrains.
This paper describes the algorithm for WMR (Wheeled Mobile Robot) to follow the preceding object using stereo vision. The center point of object existing in each image is calculate. From the distance and variation of two center points, we calculates the distance from WMR to preceding object and the relative velocity of WMR. And we use the Lyapunov theory to design controller.

This paper proposes a simple, robust, nonlinear controller based on Lyapunov stability for tracking the reference welding path and velocity of a two-wheeled welding mobile robot (WMR). The system has three degrees of freedom including two wheels and one torch slider. Torch slider motion is used for faster tracking because the welding speed is very slow. Control law is obtained from the Lyapunov control function to ensure the asymptotical stability of the system. The controller has three free parameters for adjusting the performance of the controlled system. A simple way of measuring the errors using two potentiometers is introduced. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulation results.

Two-wheeled driying mobild robots are precise controlled in terms of linear contol methods without considering the nonlinear dynamical characteristics. However, in the high maneuvering situations such as fast turn and abrupt start and stop, such neglected terms become dominant and heavy influence the overall driving performance. This study describes the nonlinear optimal control method to take advantage of the exact nonlinear dynamics of the balancing robot. Simulation results indicate that the optimal control outperforms in the respect of transient performance and required wheel torques. A design example is suggested for the state matrix that provides design flexibility in the control. It is shown that a well-planned state matrix by reflecting the physics of a balancing robot greatly conrtibutes to the driving performance and stability.

In this paper, we propose a trajectory tracking controller for a two-wheeled mobile robot (WMR) with nonholonomic constraints using a fuzzy sliding-mode controller-based hyperbolic function. The proposed controller is composed of two separate controllers. The sliding-mode controller is used for attitude control of the WMR, and the fuzzy controller-based hyperbolic function is designed to adjust the reach time of the sliding-mode control. Simulation results on a linear and a circular trajectory show that the proposed controller improves the control performance. The proposed controller reduces the reach time by as much as 47% compared to the controller proposed by Xie et al.

This paper presents a method to design an adaptive controller for the kinematic model of a two-wheeled welding mobile robot (WMR) with unknown parameters. We propose a nonlinear controller based on the Lyapunov function to enhance the tracking properties of the WMR. The WMR can track any smooth curved welding path at a constant velocity of the welding point. The system has three degrees of freedom including two wheels and one torch slider. Torch slider motion is used for fast tracking. To design the tracking performance, the errors from WMR to steel wall is defined, and the controller is designed to drive the errors to zero as fast as possible. The effectiveness of the proposed controller is shown through simulation results.
