알루미나 쌍결정에서 조성변화에 의한 Zigzag Migration (Chemically Induced Zigzag Migration in Alumina Bicrystals)

  • The effect of grain boundary structure on zigzag migrtion has been studied. Five kinds of a(2110)-m(1010) diffusion couples with different twist angles by 30$^{\circ}$from a [0001] common direction of each plane were prepared. When chromia (Cr2O3) was added to the diffusion couples by a vapor phase, zigzag migration of the grain boundary occurred. The fraction of zigzag migration did not essentially vary with the twist angle, but the magnitude and migration distance of individual migrating segment varied. The variation of CIGM morphology thus appears to result from the change in grain boundary mobility due to microscopic deviation of grain boundary structure out of a macroscopic grain boundary orientation.

Computational design of an automotive twist beam

  • In recent years, the automotive industry has known a remarkable development in order to satisfy the customer requirements. In this paper, we will study one of the components of the automotive which is the twist beam. The study is focused on the multicriteria design of the automotive twist beam undergoing linear elastic deformation (Hooke's law). Indeed, for the design of this automotive part, there are some criteria to be considered as the rigidity (stiffness) and the resistance to fatigue. Those two criteria are known to be conflicting, therefore, our aim is to identify the Pareto front of this problem. To do this, we used a Normal Boundary Intersection (NBI) algorithm coupling with a radial basis function (RBF) metamodel in order to reduce the high calculation time needed for solving the multicriteria design problem. Otherwise, we used the free form deformation (FFD) technique for the generation of the 3D shapes of the automotive part studied during the optimization process.

  • The disjoint union of mapping class groups g,1 gives us a braided monoidal category so that it gives rise to a double loop space structure. We show that there exists a natural twist in this category, so it gives us a ribbon category. We show that there exists a natural twist in this category, so it gives us a ribbon category. We explicitly express this structure by showing how the twist acts on the fundamental group of the surface Sg,l. We also make an explicit description of this structure in terms of the standard Dehn twists, as well as in terms of Wajnryb's Dehn twists. We show that the inverse of the twist g for the genus g equals the Dehn twist along the fixed boundary of the surface Sg,l.

Shear deformation effect in flexural-torsional buckling analysis of beams of arbitrary cross section by BEM

  • In this paper a boundary element method is developed for the general flexural-torsional buckling analysis of Timoshenko beams of arbitrarily shaped cross section. The beam is subjected to a compressive centrally applied concentrated axial load together with arbitrarily axial, transverse and torsional distributed loading, while its edges are restrained by the most general linear boundary conditions. The resulting boundary value problem, described by three coupled ordinary differential equations, is solved employing a boundary integral equation approach. All basic equations are formulated with respect to the principal shear axes coordinate system, which does not coincide with the principal bending one in a nonsymmetric cross section. To account for shear deformations, the concept of shear deformation coefficients is used. Six coupled boundary value problems are formulated with respect to the transverse displacements, to the angle of twist, to the primary warping function and to two stress functions and solved using the Analog Equation Method, a BEM based method. Several beams are analysed to illustrate the method and demonstrate its efficiency and wherever possible its accuracy. The range of applicability of the thin-walled theory and the significant influence of the boundary conditions and the shear deformation effect on the buckling load are investigated through examples with great practical interest.

  • We have calculated the d/p boundary values in which the low twist defect and the stripe domain defect can occur with dielectric constants and elastic constants and compared them with experimental data using the compensation factors. We estimated d/p margin for $250^{\circ}$ twist angle without experimental data and investigated qualitatively the reasonability of the behavior.

  • Let $N_{g,s}$ denote the nonorientable surface of genus g with s boundary components. Recently Paris and Szepietowski [12] obtained an explicit finite presentation for the mapping class group $\mathcal{M}(N_{g,s})$ of the surface $N_{g,s}$, where $s{\in}\{0,1\}$ and g + s > 3. Following this work, we obtain a finite presentation for the subgroup $\mathcal{T}(N_{g,s})$ of $\mathcal{M}(N_{g,s})$ generated by Dehn twists.

Peak Pressures Acting on Tall Buildings with Various Configurations

  • Twenty six pressure models of high rise buildings with various cross-sections including twisted models were tested in a boundary layer wind tunnel. The cross-sections were triangular, square, pentagon, hexagon, octagon, dodecagon, circular, and clover. This study investigates variations in peak pressures, and effects of various cross-sections and twist angles on peak pressures. To study the effects of various configurations and twist angles on peak pressures in detail, maximum positive and minimum negative peak pressures at each measurement point of the building for all wind directions are presented and discussed. The results show that peak pressures greatly depend on building cross-section and twist angle.

  • The present work analyzed the effect of mixing vane shape on the flow structure and heat transfer downstream of mixing vane in a subchannel of fuel assembly, by obtaining velocity and pressure fields, turbulent intensity, flow-mixing factors, heat transfer coefficient and friction factor using three-dimensional RANS analysis. NJl5, NJ25, NJ35, NJ45, which were designed by the authors, were tested to evaluate the performances in enhancing the heat transfer. Standard $\kappa-\epsilon$ model is used as a turbulence closure model, and, periodic and symmetry conditions are set as boundary conditions. The flow blockage ratio is kept constant, but the twist angle of mixing vane is changed. The results with three turbulence models( $\kappa-\epsilon$, $\kappa-\omega$, RSM) were compared with experimental data.

  • 곡선보(curved beam)의 등분포 하중하에서 평면내(in-plane)와 평면의(out-of-plane)의 좌굴(buckling)을 해석하는데 differential quadrature method (DQM)을 이용하여 다양한 경계조건(boundary conditions)과 굽힘각(opening angles)에 따른 입계하중(critical loads)을 계산하였다. DQM의 해석결과는 해석적 해답(exact solution) 또는 다른 수지해석 결과와 비교하였으며, DQM은 적은 요소(grid points)를 사용하여 정확한 해석결과를 보여주었다. 두 경계조건(고정-고정, 고정-단순지지)하에서 새로운 결과를 또한 제시하였다.
