  • In this paper, we propose a new rubust design scheme of a variable structure type model reference control (VS-MRC) which can be applied to linear time-varing plants. Our idea is started from the hypothesis that the plant consists of two parts, i.e., one has time-invariant parameters and the other has time-varying parameters. We consider the former the nominal part of the plant and the latter a kind of disturbance to the nominal one. In this design scheme, the ordinary VS-MRC is adopted to the nominal part and the signum function is introduced to eliminate the influence of the disturbance.

  • When modeling an underwater vehicle uncertainty arises in the presence of unsteady flow. It is difficult to include the uncertainty in the model and is therefore desirable to investigate robust controller design methods for the underwater vehicle. In the paper two robust control methods are applied for the underwater system. One is standard H$_{\infty}$ control and the other is time-varying sliding mode control with modified saturation function. Suboptimal design parameters for H$_{\infty}$ control and design parameters for time-varying switching surfaces are provided. Simulations and comparison are carried out.t.

Magnetic Disturbance Model-Embedded Heading Estimation Filter for Time-Varying Magnetic Environments (시변 자기 환경에 강한 자기왜곡 모델 내장형 헤딩 추정 필터)

  • With regards to heading estimation using gyroscope and magnetometer signals, magnetic disturbance added in the magnetometer signals is a main degradation factor in the estimation accuracy. Although there are a number of existing mechanisms that may properly compensate for the magnetic disturbances, they are designed to react only to the magnetic disturbances, but not to the time derivative of disturbances. Note that the sensors may experience abrupt changes in the magnetic disturbances, particularly for ambulatory applications. This paper proposes a magnetic disturbance model-embedded heading estimation filter for time-varying magnetic environments. The proposed magnetic disturbance model is based on a first-order Markov chain with a conditional switching technique depending on the time derivative of disturbances. Once a high amount of derivative is detected, the corrupted magnetometer signals are discarded to protect the filter from them. In our experimental results, the averaged heading error of tests was $1.46^{\circ}$, while that of the original approach without switching was $5.75^{\circ}$.

  • A new method for the simulation of the vehicle's interior road noise is proposed in the present study. The road noise model can synthesize road noise of a vehicle for varying driving speed within a range. In the proposed method, interior road noise is considered as a stochastic time-series, and is modeled by a nonstationary parametric model via two steps. First, each interior road noise signal, obtained from constant speed driving tests performed within a range of speed, is modeled as an autoregressive model whose parameters are estimated by using a standard method. Finally, the parameters obtained for different driving speeds are interpolated based on the varying driving speed to yield a time-varying autoregressive model. To model a full band road noise, audible frequency range is divided into an octave band using a wavelet filter bank, and the road noise in each octave band is modeled.

  • The properties of linear time-varying(LTV) systems vary because of the time-varying property of plant parameters. The generalized controller design method for linear time-varying systems does not exit because the analytic soultion of dynamic equation has not been found yet. Hence, to design a controller for LTV systems, the robust control methods for uncertain LTI systems which are the approximation of LTV systems have been generally ised omstead. However, these methods are not sufficient to reflect the fast dynamics of the original time-varying systems such as missiles and supersonic aircraft. In general, both the performance and the robustness of the control system which is designed with these are not satisfactory. In addition, since a better model will give the more robustness to the controlled system, a gain scheduling technique based on LTI controller design methods has been uesd to solve time problem. Therefore, we propose a new gain scheduled QFT method for LTV systems based on neural networks in this paper. The gain scheduled QFT involves gain dcheduling procedured which are the first trial for QFT and are well suited consideration of the properties of the existing QFT method. The proposed method is illustrated by a numerical example.

  • This study focuses on enhancing the accuracy of consumption function of Korean natural gas for city gas. It is using time-series model with time-varying coefficients taking into account the recent abnormal temperature phenomenon and the changing gross domestic product (GDP) as important variables. This study estimates the cointegrating regression model for the long-run estimation and the error correction model for the short-run estimation. The consumption function of Korean natural gas is estimated to be influenced by the time-varying coefficients of GDP and temperature. Using the estimated time-series model with time-varying coefficients, this study forecasts the consumption of natural gas for city gas from July 2011 to December 2012. The consumption in 2011 would be 18,303 thousand tons, which is little different from the imported 18,681 thousand tons. The consumption of natural gas for city gas in 2012 is forecast to be 19,213 thousand tons. The consumption model of this study is needed to extend by considering the relative prices between natural gas and its substitutes, the scale of consumers and others.

  • In this study, we analyzed the changes in copper consumption according to copper price fluctuations and identified the domestic copper price elasticity. A total of 408 time series data from January 1989 to December 2022 were analyzed using the vector autoregressive (VAR) model with net import volume, price, and production index as variables. In addition, to identify changes in the correlation between variables over time, the dynamic relationship between variables was identified using the time-varying vector autoregressive (TV-VAR) model. As a result of the analysis, it was confirmed that the negative price elasticity for copper is -0.1835. In addition, the interquartile range was -0.3130 ~ 0.0886, with no consistent trend over time, but mainly negative elasticity. This study can be used to quantify the expected impact of various policy proposals and changes related to minerals.

  • In this paper, a robust H${\infty}$ stabilization problem to a uncertain fuzzy systems with time-varying delay via static output feedback is investigated. The Takagi-Sugeno (T-S) fuzzy model is employed to represent uncertain nonlinear systems with time-varying delayed state, which is a continuous-time or discrete-time system. Using a single Lyapunov function, the globally asymptotic stability and disturbance attenuation of the closed-loop fuzzy control system are discussed. Sufficient conditions for the existence of robust H${\infty}$controllers are given in terms of linear matrix inequalities.

A Frequency Domain Equalization Algorithm for Fast Time-Varying Fading Channels

  • Conventional frequency domain equalization (FDE) schemes were originally devised for quasi-static channels. Thus, such equalization schemes could suffer from significant performance degradation in fast-fading channels. This paper proposes a frequency domain equalization algorithm to mitigate the effect of fast time-varying fading. First, a mathematical expression is derived to quantify the total interference resulting from the time variation of the channel. Then, the proposed approach attempts to eliminate the effect of time-variations of the channel. This cancellation allows efficient use of the classical FDE structures in fast time-varying fading environments, although they are built upon the quasi-static channel model. Simulation results of bit-error-rate performance are provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed algorithm.
