For the accurate analysis of motional characteristics of electrical machines, it is needed to solve the motion equations together with the electromagnetic field equations. In this paper the sequential coupling of systems, the spring mass system and the electromagnetic system, is adopted. The induced current and the magnetic fields are calculated by FEM with given speed. And then, with the computed electromagnetic force, the mechanical equations are solved by the Runge-Kutta method. The above to processes are repeated sequentially to obtain the time domain solutions. The resultant values are applied to the energy conservation law to prove the usefulness of the proposed sequential method.
In this work, a neuro-fuzzy inference system combined with the wavelet denoising, PCA (principal component analysis) and SPRT (sequential probability ratio test) methods is developed to detect the relevant sensor failure using other sensor signals. The wavelet denoising technique is applied to remove noise components in input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system The PCA is used to reduce the dimension of an input space without losing a significant amount of information. The PCA makes easy the selection of the input signals into the neuro-fuzzy system. Also, a lower dimensional input space usually reduces the time necessary to train a neuro-fuzzy system. The parameters of the neuro-fuzzy inference system which estimates the relevant sensor signal are optimized by a genetic algorithm and a least-squares algorithm. The residuals between the estimated signals and the measured signals are used to detect whether the sensors are failed or not. The SPRT is used in this failure detection algorithm. The proposed sensor-monitoring algorithm was verified through applications to the pressurizer water level and the hot-leg flowrate sensors in pressurized water reactors.
This paper proposes a new pole shaped magnetizing fixture with a non uniform air gap for sinusoidal magnetizing a ring type permanent magnet (PM) to reduce the cogging torque. To obtain more sinusoidal distributed magnetic flux density, the magnetizing fixture's pole shape is optimized by using the sequential response surface method (RSM). And the effects of each design parameter were investigated using the magnetic analysis combined a time stepping finite element method (FEM) with Preisach model. It has been shown, through numerical analysis the optimized modelgives near sinusoidal distributed air gap flux density and drastically reduced cogging torque.
Multi-temporal approaches using sequential data acquired over multiple years are essential for satisfactory discrimination between many land-cover classes whose signatures exhibit seasonal trends. At any particular time, the response of several classes may be indistinguishable. A harmonic model that can represent seasonal variability is characterized by four components: mean level, frequency, phase and amplitude. The trigonometric components of the harmonic function inherently contain temporal information about changes in land-cover characteristics. Using the estimates which are obtained from sequential images through spectral analysis, seasonal periodicity can be incorporates into multi-temporal classification. The Normalized Difference Vegetation Index (NDVI) was computed for one week composites of the Advanced Very High Resolution Radiometer (AVHRR) imagery over the Korean peninsula for 1996 ~ 2000 using a dynamic technique. Land-cover types were then classified both with the estimated harmonic components using an unsupervised classification approach based on a hierarchical clustering algorithm. The results of the classification using the harmonic components show that the new approach is potentially very effective for identifying land-cover types by the analysis of its multi-temporal behavior.
The ROPS of an agricultural tractor is designed to protect its driver when the tractor overturns. Although the current OECD tests to determine whether the ROPS meets the requirements of the OECD regulation are desirable, they need long time to test. We experimental time and effort by using CAE. We conducted a finite element analysis for the ROPS design of a Dae-Dong tractor cabin in an attempt to reduce the design and manufacturing time. This study shows the interpretative skill using MARC(v.2000) for designing ROPS and difference between the results of testing and FEA. Design process is generally divided into two phases: a concept and a detail design. The concept design uses simple analysis to predict structural behavior, whereas the detail design involves a finite element analysis performed by the results of the concept design. This study focused on the detail design and used Patran(v.2000r2) and MARC(v.2000) of the MSC software corporation. The model consisted of 4812 elements and 4582 nodes. Four tests. specified in the OECD standards, were performed: (1) longitudinal loading test (2) rear crushing test (3) side loading test (4), and front crushing test. Independent analyses were also performed for each test, along with a sequential analysis. When compared, the results of the independent and sequential analyses were found to be similar to the test results.
The present study aims to investigate the sequential mediation model in the relationships between optimistic bias, subjective perception, risk perception, and the future time perspective in terms of a particulate matter and depression, using the sequential mediation model. An online self-reported survey was conducted on 545 participants who agreed to participate in the current study. We considered depression as a dependent variable, optimistic bias as an independent variable, and subjective perception of particulate matter, the risk perception of particulate matter, future-time-perspective as mediators. The sequential mediation analysis was conducted using the SPSS Macro. The results show that optimistic bias was not directly related to depression, but was related to indirect paths through the subjective perception of particulate matter, the risk perception of particulate matter, and future time perspective. More specifically, the lack of optimistic bias was related to a tendency to subjectively perceive the quality of air pollution more seriously and a limited future time perspective, which subsequently related to depression. Future studies should pay more attention to the effects of particulate matter on the quality of life and mental health.
Post-earthquake fire (PEF) can lead to a rapid collapse of buildings damaged partially as a result of prior earthquake. Almost all standards and codes for the design of structures against earthquake ignore the risk of PEF, and thus buildings designed using those codes could be too weak when subjected to a fire after an earthquake. An investigation based on sequential analysis inspired by FEMA356 is performed here on the Immediate Occupancy, Life Safety and Collapse Prevention performance levels of structures, designed to the ACI 318-08 code, after they are subjected to an earthquake level with PGA of 0.35g. This investigation is followed by a fire analysis of the damaged structures, examining the time taken for the damaged structures to collapse. As a point of reference, a fire analysis is also performed for undamaged structures and before the occurrence of earthquake. The results indicate that the vulnerability of structures increases dramatically when a previously damaged structure is exposed to PEF. The results also show that the damaging effects of post-earthquake fire are exacerbated when initiated from the second and third floor. Whilst the investigation is made for a certain class of structures (conventional buildings, intermediate reinforced structure, 3 stories), the results confirm the need for the incorporation of post-earthquake fire into the process of analysis and design, and provides some quantitative measures on the level of associated effects.
Post earthquake fire (PEF) can lead to the collapse of buildings that are partially damaged in a prior ground-motion that occurred immediately before the fire. The majority of standards and codes for the design of structures against earthquake ignore the possibility of PEF and thus buildings designed with those codes could be too weak when subjected to a fire after an earthquake. An investigation based on sequential analysis inspired by FEMA356 is performed here on the Life-Safety performance level of structures designed to the ACI 318-08 code after they are subjected to two different earthquake levels with PGA of 0.35 g and 0.25 g. This is followed by a four-hour fire analysis of the weakened structure, from which the time it takes for the weakened structure to collapse is calculated. As a benchmark, the fire analysis is also performed for undamaged structure and before occurrence of earthquake. The results show that the vulnerability of structures increases dramatically when a previously damaged structure is exposed to PEF. The results also show the damaging effects of post earthquake fire are exacerbated when initiated from second and third floor. Whilst the investigation is for a certain class of structures (regular building, intermediate reinforced structure, 3 stories), the results confirm the need for the incorporation of post earthquake fire in the process of analysis and design and provides some quantitative measures on the level of associated effects.

In this research, we implement Realtime Air Diffusion Prediction System which is a parallel Fortran model running on distributed-memory parallel computers. The system is designed for air diffusion simulations with four-dimensional data assimilation. For regional air quality forecasting a series of dynamic downscaling technique is adopted using the NCAR/Penn. State MM5 model which is an atmospheric model. The realtime initial data have been provided daily from the KMA (Korean Meteorological Administration) global spectral model output. It takes huge resources of computation to get 24 hour air quality forecast with this four step dynamic downscaling (27km, 9km, 3km, and lkm). Parallel implementation of the realtime system is imperative to achieve increased throughput since the realtime system have to be performed which correct timing behavior and the sequential code requires a large amount of CPU time for typical simulations. The parallel system uses MPI (Message Passing Interface), a standard library to support high-level routines for message passing. We validate the parallel model by comparing it with the sequential model. For realtime running, we implement a cluster computer which is a distributed-memory parallel computer that links high-performance PCs with high-speed interconnection networks. We use 32 2-CPU nodes and a Myrinet network for the cluster. Since cluster computers more cost effective than conventional distributed parallel computers, we can build a dedicated realtime computer. The system also includes web based Gill (Graphic User Interface) for convenient system management and performance monitoring so that end-users can restart the system easily when the system faults. Performance of the parallel model is analyzed by comparing its execution time with the sequential model, and by calculating communication overhead and load imbalance, which are common problems in parallel processing. Performance analysis is carried out on our cluster which has 32 2-CPU nodes.
