  • Background: Cervical cancer is the most frequently diagnosed cancer among women in India. Understanding quality of life (QOL) in women undergoing chemo-radiotherapy for cervical cancer will help in introducing interventions for better care and outcomes in these women. This study assessed QOL before and after chemo-radiotherapy in cervical cancer patients. Materials and Methods: This follow-up study covered sixty-seven newly diagnosed women with advanced cervical cancer (stages 2b to 4b). Structured questionnaires (the European Organization for Research and Treatment of Cancer, EORTC QLQ-C30 and EORTC QLQ-CX24) were used to assess the change in QOL after 6 months of treatment. Results: The mean age of women at the time of detection of cervical cancer was $52.3{\pm}11.29$ years (Range 30-75 years). Six months survival was 92.53%. The mean global health score of cervical cancer patients after six months of treatment was 59.52, which was significantly higher than the pre-treatment score of 50.15 (p=0.00007). Physical, cognitive and emotional functioning improved significantly (p<0.05) after treatment. Fatigue, pain, insomnia and appetite loss improved but episodes of diarrhea increased after treatment. The mean "symptoms score" using EORTC QLQ-CX24 post treatment was 20.0 which was significantly lower as compared to the pre- treatment score 30.0 (p<0.00001). Sexual enjoyment and sexual functioning decreased significantly after treatment. Conclusions: QOL of newly diagnosed cervical cancer patients improved significantly following chemo-radio therapy. Enhancement was also demonstrated on three of the five functional scales of EORTC QLQ-C30. To further improve QOL, interventions focusing on social and psychological support and physical rehabilitation may be needed.

  • In the study, there has been a sharp upward trend in road maintenance cost as the expansion of road networks increases. Running a pavement management system(PMS) is indispensable for efficient and scientific maintenance of the whole road networks with limited maintenance budgets. With a PMS, a maintenance plan should be drawn up after surface conditions are precisely examined and analyzed. The majority of the present PMSs are run by the fact that experts first examine surface conditions on sites, and then enter results into systems. However, considering the actual circumstances of the present time and the increase in paved road hereafter, it is inefficient that experts examine the whole paved roads in person and long-lasting PMSs can not be kept up. As a result, after analyzing the accuracy of 3-D coordinates representing road surfaces that was decided using multi orientation and digital photogrammetry, the average of standard errors turned out to be 0.0427m on the X-axis, 0.0527m on the Y-axis and 0.1539m on the Z-axis. It was found to be good enough to be put to practical use for maps drawn on scales below 1 :1000, which are being currently made and used within the country, and GIS data.

  • Multiscale modeling is a new simulation approach which can manage different spatial and temporal scales of system. In this study, as part of multiscale modeling research, we propose the way of combining two different simulation methods, molecular dynamics(MD) and stochastic rotation dynamics(SRD). Our conceptual implementations are based on LAMMPS, one of the well-known molecular dynamics programs. Our prototype of multiscale modeling follows the form of the third party implementation of LAMMPS. It added MD to SRD in order to simulate the boundary area of the simulation box. Because it is important to guarantee the seamless simulation, we also designed the overlap zones and communication zones. The preliminary experimental results showed that our proposed scheme is properly worked out and the execution time is also reduced.

  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the level of pain related to a blood sugar test. Specifically, the study attempts to compare the varying degree of pains when different types of blood sugar test are used. Method: A sample of 56 subjects is composed of DM patients admitted to a medical ward of C university hospital in Gwangju. Data were collected from July, 2001 to December, 2001. The blood sugar tests were administered in four different ways: (1) the use of 27G needle only, (2) the use of 27G needle followed by ice-packed treatment, (3) the use of 27G needle after EMLA cream application, and (4) the use of lancet. The degree of pain is measured with a visual analogue scale and performed twice. Result: In both measures, the use of 27G needle only method is shown to cause the highest level of pain in comparison with the rest of methods (F=4.01, p=.01; F=8.14, p=.00). However, the differences in pain between time in all methods were not found to be significant (t=-.85, p=.40; t=.80, p=.42; t=.31, p=.75; t=.19, p=.85). Conclusion: The study results indicate that the method using lanceter is more recommendable than the use of 27G needle only method. Further research is needed to support the current study result with the use of different measurement scales and to determine effective methods of blood sugar test to lower pain and compliance.

  • The Indonesian population is estimated at 250 million and ranked as the world's fourth-largest. It is also one of the world's largest Muslim nations. Seventy percent of the population of Indonesia is young consumers in their 20s and 30s. In additions, Indonesian consumers have recently developed a great interest in fashion in general and Korean fashion in particular. This paper addresses issues related to young Indonesian consumers' clothing behavior in terms of clothing image, clothing style, body image, clothing and attitudes toward Korean fashion brands. The survey method was used as a primary research instrument. All measurements were adapted from the existing scales from previous studies. A total of 172 questionnaires were used for the final statistical analysis. Empirical results showed that Indonesian consumers' preferences regarding clothing image were new, casual, humorous, futuristic, soft, interesting and active. In terms of style, Indonesian consumers scored high in their preferences of casual and classic styles. With regard to body image, Indonesian consumers have significant concern for their appearance and body, but at the same time they are more satisfied with their body shape. More than half of the respondents had experience in purchasing Korean fashion products. Indonesian consumers recognized the clothing image of Korean fashion brands as new, futuristic, and hi-tech. Furthermore, they perceive the clothing style of Korean fashion brands as casual, feminine, and sexy. Korean fashion brand purchase intension was significantly influenced by recognition and preference of Korean fashion brand.

  • In February 1986, a high-school student reported the discovery of fragments of gilt-bronze burial goods on a mountainside behind a village in Ipjeom-ri, Ungpo-myeon in Iksan. The National Research Institute of Cultural Heritage immediately undertook an excavation. Unfortunately, gilt-bronze relics including a band and vertical decorations for a crown, a hat, and shoes had already been collected from Ipjeom-ri Tomb 1 by the student who found them before they could be properly excavated. Also, the interior of the stone chamber of the tomb had been severely disturbed by the time of excavation, making it difficult to identify the precise original locations of the relics within the tomb and hindering the reassembly of the fragments of the gilt-bronze crown. After conservation treatment, the gilt-bronze hat, shoes, and other relics were restored to their original forms and researchers were able to identify incised designs of a three-legged bonghwang(鳳凰), fish scales, lotus flowers, and other motifs. This study presents the major features of the fragments of gilt-bronze relics from Ipjeom-ri Tomb 1 and the methods of their production in order to provide basic material for their restoration and allow the eventual restoration of the giltbronze crown to its original condition.

  • The earth volume which is the basis of all the construction has gone through great development so far with the use of construction machine; however, systematic studies on the related area is in need since the appropriate compound engineering method of earth volume equipments which is a key factor for shortening the project duration and cost reduction is not systematically established and it is dependent on experience. Reasonable mechanical earth volume should take into consideration of performance and characteristics of the equipment, the kind of project, scale and conditions in advance. Also, the optimum compound engineering should be planned by selecting several available scales of equipment. In this study, the earth volume estimate model is established for optimum compound engineering of earth volume equipment for mechanized earth volume equipment loading and moving stage among many stages of earth volume task using system dynamics technique. The optimum compound engineering model of the earth volume equipment produced as a result of this is expected to make reasonable decisions in the shortest time in selecting earth volume facility.

  • Large scale shared memory multiprocessors have suffered from large access latency to shared memory. The large latency partially stems from a feature of directory-based cache coherence schemes which require a shared memory access to be serviced at a home node of the memory block. The home visit results in three or more hops traversal for a memory read access. The traversal becomes much longer as a system scales up. In this paper, we propose a new cache coherence scheme that reduces read access latency. The proposed scheme exploits ideas of invalid hint. Invalid hint for a cache block means which node has invalidated the cache block before. Thus a read access request can be directly sent to and serviced by the node (called owner) without help of a home node. Execution-driven simulation is employed to evaluate performance of the proposed scheme. The simulation results show that read access latency and execution time are reduced.

  • The popularity of Web service is ever increasing. As the number of services and clients continue to increase, the problem of providing a system that scales with this increase is becoming more difficult. A costly and ineffective method is to buy a new system that is more powerful every time the load becomes unbearable. h more cost effective solution is to expand the system as the need arises. This is the approach taken in Web cluster systems. However, providing effective scalability in a Web cluster system is stil1 an open issue. In this study, we implement a Web cluster system based on Layer 7 switching technique on Linux. The implementation is based on a design proposed and implemented by Aron et al., but on the FreeBSD. Though the design li the same, due to the vast difference between the FreeBSD and Linux, the implementation presented in this paper is totally new. We also propose the Dual Scheduling (DS) load distribution algorithm that distributes the requests to the system resources by observing the variations in the request rate. We show through measurement on our implementation that the DS alorithm performs considerably bettor than previous algorithms.

  • We performed a study of epidural patient controlled analgesia of meperidine with or without 0.08% bupivacaine for 48 hours after Cesarean section. 51 parturients were randomly assigned to one of two treatment groups : 1) epidural 0.2% meperidine group(n:24) and 2) epidural combined group with 0.2% meperidine and 0.08% bupivacaine(n:27). All parturients used patient controlled analgesia with loading dose, 2 ml/hour continuous infusion, 1 ml bolus infusion and lockout time, 8 minutes. visual analog scales after loading doses were not significantly different in either groups. The total quantity of meperidine consumption and hourly consumption were significantly lower in the combined group than meperidine group(P<0.05). The cumulative amount of meperidine consumption were also significantly lower in the combined group than meperidine group at 6, 12, 24 and 48 hours. In combined group the hourly consumption of meperidien from 3 hours to 12 hours after loading dose was significantly lower than those of meperidine group. Above 90% of parturients were satisfied in both groups. Side effects were: numbness (2), thigh weakness (1), nausea (1), headache (1) and back pain (2) in epidural meperidine group. There were no case needed specific treatment in both groups. We conclude that analgesic effects were similar in both groups, however the amount of meperidine consumption was less for meperiding group than combined group.
