  • Thermosets are highly cross-linked polymers with a three-dimensional molecular structure. The network structure gives rise to mechanical properties, however, one major drawback of thermosets, which also results from their network structure, is their poor resistance to impact and to crack initiation. In this study, to solve this problem, the reactive thermoplastics such as amine terminated polyetherimide (ATPEI), ATPEI-CTBN-ATPEI(ABA) triblock copolymer, CTBN-ATPEI(AB) diblock copolymer, and carboxyl group modified ATPEI was synthesized, after that blended with epoxy resin, and the carbon fiber reinforced composites were fabricated. The impact load, energy, and delamination were investigated by using drop weight impact test and C-scan test. As a results, the ABA/epoxy blend system showed good impact properties.

  • A main property for fiber reinforced thermoplastic composite material in compression molding is the flow of fibers. This flow is so effective a long direction of acting force that this study examined for the inclined angel of 30$^{\circ}$, 45$^{\circ}$ and 6$^{\circ}$. Below the near softing temperature of plastic, the fiber has been fractured at a point so that the fiber strength is smaller then the local hydrostatic stress in the mold. It has been found that the position of fracture is changing accrding to the incling angle. In case of the above softing temperature, the larger the inclined is, the farther the flow of fiber move. Also the plastic flow has been progresed with the cicular are type.

  • In recent years, compression molding of long fiber-reinforced thermoplastics has been increased in commercial aspects. In the process of compression molding of composites, the flow analysis must be developed in order to accurately predict the finished part properties as a function of the molding process parameters. In this model FRTP is assumed to be nonisothermal fluid, which has different viscosities in extensional and in shear. For verification of the model, the formation of a knit line in the L-shaped parts is compared with that of experiments results. In this paper we will discuss the effects of extensional & shear viscosity ratio and slip parameter $\alpha$ on the other modle fill-ing parameters.

  • This study was to find the best adhesive condition comparing mechanical property in case of hot-melt adhesion using glue-gun, ultrasonic welding with adhesion and only ultrasonic welding in order to adhere thermoplastic resin of polyethylene (PE) in which reliable adhesion was resulted in case of ultrasonic welding with same materials of PE. The best welding condition were acquired at welding time 1 second, welding pressure 250kPa for PE-PE where welding time and welding pressure were increased in accordance with the increase of material strength. At the best ultrasonic welding conditions, bonding strength of PE-PE welding was about 21MPa of which material have tensile strength of 24MPa. Through the analysis of microscophic test for ultrasonic welding structure, it was distinguished between well welded structure with higher intermolecule flow and bad welded structure with lower flow, of which result is mostly correspond with the result of tensile strength test.

  • In this research work attempts were made to study the bonding of thermoplastics with adhesives using solar energy. In order to study the curing behaviour necessary experiments were conducted under varying conditions of temperature, exposure time and power. The cured samples were then studied under the optical microscope before subjecting to tensile testing in order to study their mechanical properties. The fracture surfaces were further studied under the Scanning Electron Microscopy in order to study the microstructural changes that are taken place during curing. From the present study it is evident that curing under higher solar energy temperature, generally improves bond strength and quality of the adhesive joints when compared to other modes of curing process expect the microwave curing process.

  • Engineering thermoplastics with useful properties at elevated temperatures usually contain aromatic units in its chemical structure, especially symmetrical aryl groups such as 1, 4-phenylene, 4, 4'-biphenylene, and 2, 6-naphthalene. Aromatic groups often impart molecular rigidity, which contributes to high glass transition temperature and good thermal stability, and also to high melting point in semicrystalline polymers. • Damping materials encompass a broad range of materials, including, but not limits to, pressure sensitive adhesives, epoxies, rubbers, foams, thermoplastics, enamels and mastics. Their common characteristic is that their modulus is represented by a complex quantity, possessing both a stored and dissipative energy component. Loss factor of damping material analyzed more than 2 times than rubber to 1.5 $\sim$ 2.3, could know that Damping layer has excellent attenuation performance in side of vibration reduction. Measurements of vibration using accelerometers by adhesion of Damping layer, square Plate by Separation of Damping layer is less binding of Damping layer, analyzed low loss factor and Natural Frequency by free Vibration of Square Plate.
