Abstract
Engineering thermoplastics with useful properties at elevated temperatures usually contain aromatic units in its chemical structure, especially symmetrical aryl groups such as 1, 4-phenylene, 4, 4'-biphenylene, and 2, 6-naphthalene. Aromatic groups often impart molecular rigidity, which contributes to high glass transition temperature and good thermal stability, and also to high melting point in semicrystalline polymers.
