Carbon fibers are used as a reinforcement material in an epoxy matrix in advanced composites due to their high mechanical strength, rigidity and low specific density. An important aspect of the mechanical properties of composites is associated to the adhesion between the surface of the carbon fiber and the epoxy matrix. This paper aimed to evaluate the effects of electron beam irradiation on the physicochemical properties of carbon fibers to obtain better adhesion properties in resultant composite. Chemical structure and surface elements of carbon fiber were determined by FT-IR, elemental analysis and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy, which indicated that the oxygen content increased significantly with increasing the radiation dose. Thermal stability of the carbon fibers was studied via the thermalgravimetric analysis. Surface morphology of carbon fiber was analyzed by scanning electron microscope. It was found that the degree of surface roughness was increased by electron beam irradiation.
Kenaf (Hibiscuc cannabinus L.) is a renewable resource for industry and kenaf lignin is syringyl-guaiacyl lignin. The electron beam irradiated on kenaf core various doses range from 200 to 1,000 kGy to improve delignification. The yield of lignin, which is 2.53 g from 10 g of electron beam irradiated kenaf core. A comparison extracted lignin between from native kenaf core and electron beam irradiated kenaf core was then studied through chemical structure and bonding property by a Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR). Thermal stability of the extracted-purified lignin was performed via differential scanning calorimetry (DSC). These results were explained that electron beam irradiation increased performance of extracting efficiency.
Ultrafine-grained or nanostructured alloys usually lack the strain hardening capability needed to sustain uniform tensile deformation under high stresses. To circumvent this problem, we fabricated the Cu-based composite reinforced with the 3-dimensionally interconnected $Cu_5Zr$ phase using the combined technique of rapid quenching and subsequent hot-rolling. The alloy exhibited a tensile ductility of ~2.5% together with a strength of 1.57 GPa, which exceeds the values of most commercially available Cu-Be alloys. In this study, we elucidated the structural origin of the high strength and tensile ductility of the developed alloy by examining the thermal stability of the $Cu_5Zr$ reinforcing phase and the energy (work) absorption capability of the Cu matrix.
K2NiF4-type organic-based perovskites of the (C4H9NH3)2FexPb1-xCl4 (x=0.00, 0.25, 0.50, and 0.75) system have been synthesized using a low-temperatu re solution method under a flowing argon gas. When stoichiometric butylamine, iron chloride, and lead chloride are mixed, a yellow solution are obtained from slow cooling of 90 to -10 $^{\circ}C.$ The final product is a plate-like yellow crystal. The X-ray crystallographic analysis has been carried out using XRD in the range of $5^{\circ}{\leq}$ 2${\theta}$${\leq}80^{\circ}.$ The local symmetry around the absorbing Pb atom of the samples has been determined by the EXAFS spectroscopic study. The crystals assign to orthorhombic system by the XRD analysis. The FT-IR spectra are analyzed in the range of 600 to 3300 cm-1 . DSC and TGA are measured to detect thermal stability between 30 and 300 $^{\circ}C.$ Two endothermic peaks are detected in all samples. The electrical conductivity has been measured using the four-probes technique for the (C4H9NH3)2FexPb1-xCl4 system in 300-460 K. Photoluminescence phenomenon was also investigated at room-temperature.
Lithium gel electrolytes based on a mixed polymer matrix consisting of poly(vinylidenefluoride-hexafluoropropylene) (PVDF-HFP) and cyanoresin type M (CRM) were prepared using an in situ blending process. The CRM used in this study was a copolymer of cyanoethyl pullulan and cyanoethyl poly(vinyl alcohol) (PVA) with a mole ratio of 1:1. The mixed plasticizer was ethylene carbonate (EC) and propylene carbonate (PC) with a volume ratio of 1:1. In this study, the presence of PVDF in the electrolytes helps to form a dimensionally stable film over a broad composition range, and decreases the viscosity. In addition, it provides better rheological properties that are suitable for the extrusion of thin films. However, the presence of HFP has a positive effect on generating an amorphous domain in a crystalline PVDF structure. The ionic conductivity of the polymer electrolytes was investigated in the range 298-333 K. The introduction of CRM into the PVDF-HFP/$LiPF_6$, complex produced a PVDF-HFP/CRM/$LiPF_6$ complex with a higher ionic conductivity and improved thermal stability and dynamic mechanical properties than a simple PVDF-HFP/$LiPF_6$, complex.
Graphitic carbon nitride ($g-C_3N_4$) as a fascinating visible light active semiconductor photocatalyst has medium band gap, non-toxic nature, stable chemical structure and high thermal stability. Recently, intensive researches are focused on photocatalytic activity of $g-C_3N_4$ for wastewater treatment. This review demonstrates latest progress in fabrication of graphitic carbon nitride $C_3N_4$ incorporated nanocomposite to explore photocatalytic ability for water purification. The $g-C_3N_4$-based nanocomposites were categorized as $g-C_3N_4$ metal-free nanocomposite, noble metals/$g-C_3N_4$ heterojunction, non-metal doped $g-C_3N_4$, transition and post transition metal based $g-C_3N_4$ nanocomposite. Apart from fabrication methods, we emphasized on elaborating the mechanism of activity enhancement during photocatalytic process.
Two-dimensional (2D) metal organic framework (MOF) nanosheets (NSs) have recently gained considerable interest owing to their structural advantages, such as large surface area and exposed active sites. Two different types of 2D MOF NSs have been reported, including inherently layered MOFs and non-layered ones. Although several studies on inherently layered 2D MOFs have been reported, non-layered 2D MOFs have been rarely studied. This may be because the non-layered MOFs have a strong preference to form three-dimensionality intrinsically. Furthermore, the non-layered MOFs are typically synthesized in the presence of the surfactant or modulator, and thus developing facile and clean synthetic routes is highly pursued. In this study, a facile and clean synthetic methodology to grow non-layered 2D cobalt-based zeolitic imidazolate framework (ZIF-67) NSs is suggested, without using any surfactant and modulator at room temperature. This is achieved by directly converting ultrathin α-Co(OH)2 layered hydroxide salt (LHS) NSs into non-layered 2D ZIF-67 NSs. The comprehensive characterizations were conducted to elucidate the conversion mechanism, structural information, thermal stability, and chemical composition of the non-layered 2D ZIF-67. This facile and clean approach could produce a variety of non-layered 2D MOF NS families to extend potential applications of MOF materials.

The drying of duck blood provides safety and commercial benefits, but each drying method has its own characteristics. Moreover, information on the effects of diverse drying methods on the quality of duck blood is limited. This study aimed to investigate the effects of various drying methods on the chemical and functional properties of duck blood. The physicochemical characteristics and functional properties of duck blood subjected to spray drying (SD), freeze drying (FD), vacuum drying (VD), and hot air drying (HD) were examined. The carbonyl content of FD duck blood powder was the lowest and the thermal stability was higher than that of the other treatments (p<0.05). The gel obtained from spray-dried blood displayed the lowest malondialdehyde content. The hardness, gumminess, and chewiness were the highest in the heat-induced gel prepared from FD duck blood powder (p<0.05). The gel obtained from FD duck blood displayed a denser structure than the other gel samples. Taken together, the FD duck blood exhibited excellent chemical properties and processing suitability.
This study focuses on the comparative analysis of ABS polymer samples produced using two distinct manufacturing techniques: 3D printing and the sol-gel methods. In the first approach, ABS polymer was augmented with rare earth oxides, Er2O3 and Gd2O3, in nano powder form and fabricated into test specimens using 3D printing technology. In the second approach, identical samples were prepared via the sol-gel technique involving mold-based fabrication. Elemental content analysis revealed no significant differences between the samples produced by the two methods. The study proceeds to evaluate the gamma-ray shielding, neutron shielding, temperature resistance, and SEM/EDS pictures of ABS samples generated through both techniques. 3D printing method exhibited more favorable results in terms of structure morphology and thermal stability while there is no significant difference for radiation shielding. The results provide insights into the performance and suitability of each production method for radiation shielding applications. This research not only contributes to enhancing radiation shielding technology but also informs the selection of the most appropriate fabrication method for specific applications in nuclear technologies and diagnostic energy range in medical purposes.
In order to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in recent agricultural energy and increase the energy self-sufficiency rate of each farmer, it is extremely important to expand the supply of solar energy using unused space of agricultural facilities, roof. This study surveyed and analyzed the environmental and administrative factors such as problems according to the structure, azimuth and latitude of broiler houses and stability of standard broiler houses required to use broiler house roof based on the poultry houses in Sangju-si. The results can be summarized as follows: 55.6% of the solar energy facilities of according to the classification of arable lands of broiler houses were available, and 31.7% of them were available by classifying according to the azimuth. However, 20.6% of them were available in the survey considering all the arable land and azimuth. In the roof inclination of the broiler houses, from 20 to $25^{\circ}$ was the most common, 30 broiler houses. The broiler houses with the roof inclination more than $20^{\circ}$ accounted for 63% of the total. It was considered that the inclination was generally proper. In the structural safety, only 3 broiler houses that were constructed as a standard broiler house were available. In practice, all but one broiler house was inappropriate to expand the solar energy project using roof. The solar thermal facility weighed $63.6kg/m^2$ in total: the frame and solar thermal collector weighed $27.8kg/m^2$ and $35.8kg/m^2$, respectively. The standard broiler house required to be internally reinforced. This study suggested a plan for internal reinforcement and a feasible plan because there were problems with structural safety when installing solar thermal and photovoltaic systems.
