  • In this paper, we optimized and simulated the heatsink of 75W LED module for street lighting and evaluated the optical properties with the manufactured heatsink. the structure of LED package make simple as chip and heatslug and thermal flow is analyzed by using the FEM(Finite Element Method) with CFdesign V10. Also, we measured the temperature of heatsink and evaluated the optical properties with infrared thermal image camera and integrated sphere system for luminous flux in $1\;[m^3]$ box. As results, Heatsink optimized in 3 mm pin thickness, 6 mm base thickness and 16 number of pin count by using Heatsink-designer and got the results which is the temperature of $47.37\;[^{\circ}C]$ and thermal resistance of $0.48407\;[W/^{\circ}C]$. In thermal flow simulation, the temperature of heatsink decreased from $51.54\;[^{\circ}C]$ to $51.51\;[^{\circ}C]$ and the temperature of heatsink by the time in real measurement decreased from $47.03\;[^{\circ}C]$ to $46.87\;[^{\circ}C]$. Moreover, we improve 0.68 % in the decreased ratio of the luminous flux.

  • Power capacitor has been used to compensate for the low power factor of inductive load and to reduce harmonics generated by the power conversion device with reactor. The increase of voltage and current and thermal generation are extremely hard on the life of condenser. Current will be increased, provided that voltage and frequency of condenser increase also. The increase of voltage and frequency justly extends thermal generation. Both act on insulation stress and can afford to premature fault In this paper, we measured thermal distribution of condenser with infrared rays camera in case of variance of voltage and frequency. We were assured that the increase of voltage and frequency produces high heat and exceedingly shortens the life of condenser.

  • We constructed an unbiased asteroid catalog from the mid-infrared part of the All-Sky Survey with the Infrared Camera (IRC) on board AKARI. About 20% of the point source events recorded in the IRC All-Sky Survey observations were not used for the IRC Point Source Catalog in its production process because of a lack of multiple detection by position. Asteroids, which are moving objects on the celestial sphere, are included in these "residual events" We identified asteroids out of the residual events by matching them with the positions of known asteroids. For the identified asteroids, we calculated the size and albedo based on the Standard Thermal Model. Finally we had a new brand of asteroid catalog, which contains 5,120 objects, about twice as many as the IRAS asteroid catalog.

  • The structural development of air-water bubble plumes has been measured under different condition on air flow rate in a cylindrical bath. The time-averaged structure of plumes has been measured with an oscilloscope and an electro-conductivity probe. The temperature of bubbles was also obtained by a thermal-infrared camera. Gas volume fraction and bubble frequency were high since bubbles concentrated on the nozzle. In general, their axial and radial values tended to decrease with increasing distance. Bubble temperature reached water temperature within a short time. The present study showed that thermal equilibrium between bubbles and water was completed before bubbles flow became stable.

  • In this study, the correlation between leakage currents and temperature rise was investigated for the more accurate diagnosis of bad insulator by use of the infrared camera. For the purpose, leakage currents and thermal images were measured for the artificially aged insulators using salt fog. From the results, it is concluded as follows ; in case of artificially aged insulators, the leakage. current was decreased with the duration of voltage application and was largely affected by humidity, which seems due to ionic conduction. Also, the correlation between temperature rise and leakage current was appeared to be quite linear, although it showed below linearity at large leakage current.

  • The Multi-purpose InfraRed Imaging System (MIRIS) is the main payload of Science and Technology Satellite 3 (STSAT-3), which was launched onboard Dnepr rocket from Russian Yasny Launch Base in November 2013. The MIRIS is an infrared (IR) camera, and the telescope has to be cooled down to below 200K in order to reduce thermal background noise. For the effective cooling and low-power consumption, we applied passive cooling method to the thermal design of the MIRIS. We also conducted thermal analysis and tested for the passive cooling before the launch of STSAT-3. After the launch, we have received State-of-Health (SOH) data from the satellite on orbit, including temperature monitoring results. It is important that the temperature of the telescope was shown to be cooled down to below 200K. In this paper, we present both the temperature data of the MIRIS on orbit and the thermal analysis results in the laboratory. We also compare these results and discuss the verification of the passive cooling.

  • Laser cartilage reshaping(LCR) is a promising method for reshaping cartilage by using laser irradiation to maintain permanently modifies its shape. However this method has not been fully understood due to the limited scientific researches. The purpose of this study is to analyze optical and thermal characteristics of cartilage during laser irradiation. After analyzing Monte Carlo simulation for the comparison of laser fluence distributions with different laser wavelengths the characterization of the spectral changes during Nd:YAG laser(${\lambda}$ = 1444 nm) irradiation was investigated in the ranges of 900-1700 nm with double integrating spheres. The surface temperature distribution changes during laser irradiation were investigated with an infrared camera. The quantitative measurements of optical and thermal characteristics in cartilage after laser irradiation were correlated with the transition of water flux(from bound to free water) and this study may be useful for better understanding of biophysical transformation phenomena in cartilage after laser heating.

  • Satellite's infrared detector shall be calibrated under thermal vacuum environment using a reference black body before a launch. The full aperture black body (FABB) as an infrared calibration reference shall be composed of vacuum compatible materials and temperature controlled from $-40^{\circ}C$ to $+40^{\circ}C$ with emissivity higher than 0.95. The temperature homogeneity over the central 80 % area of the FABB front surface shall be better than 2 K. The FABB designed by thermal and flow analysis was $1m{\times}1m{\times}8mm$ copper plate on which black painted aluminum honeycomb core was attached. Copper tubes were welded on the opposite side of the honeycomb core to allow temperature regulated gaseous nitrogen to flow through them. By the FABB validation test, the temperature homogeneity was observed around 1 K using 20 PT100 sensors and modified COTS infrared camera. The emissivity value was 0.975 at $40^{\circ}C$ under atmospheric pressure.

  • In this paper, we investigate the thermal response of skin tissue to high-intensity focused ultrasound (HIFU) by means of infrared (IR) thermal imaging. For skin tightening, a 7-MHz ultrasound transducer is used to induce irreversible tissue coagulation in porcine skin. An IR camera is employed to monitor spatiotemporal changes of the temperature in the tissue. The maximum temperature in the tissue increased linearly with applied energy, up to $90^{\circ}C$. The extent of irreversible tissue coagulation (up to 3.2 mm in width) corresponds well to the spatial distribution of the temperature during HIFU sonication. Histological analysis confirms that the temperature beyond the coagulation threshold (${\sim}65^{\circ}C$) delineates the margin of collagen denaturation in the tissue. IR thermal imaging can be a feasible method for quantifying the degree of thermal coagulation in HIFU-induced skin treatment.

  • In this paper, we present an optimal threshold setting method for flame detection of infrared thermal image. Conventional infrared flame detection methods used fixed intensity threshold to segment candidate flame regions and further processing is performed to decide correct flame detection. So flame region segmentation step using the threshold is important processing for fire detection algorithm. The threshold should be change in input image depends on camera types and operation conditions. We have analyzed the conventional thresholds composed of fixed-intensity, average, standard deviation, maximum value. Finally, we extracted that the optimal threshold value is more than summation of average and standard deviation, and less than maximum value. it will be enhance flame detection rate than conventional fixed-threshold method.
