Analysis of the polychlorinated biphenyls in transformer oils using peak matching method (피크패턴법을 이용한 절연유 중 PCBs 분석)

  • PCBs had numerous uses such as hydraulic fluid, heat exchange fluid, sealant, lubricant, and carbonless copy paper. They are most likely found in electric utilities, power stations, industrial facilities, electronic manufacturing plants, petrochemical plants, railroad systems, electric equipment repair facilities, mining sites (active or abandoned), and military camps. Due to its outstanding chemical and thermal stabilities and electrical insulation properties, the commercial and industrial products of PCBs, such as Aroclors, Kaneclors, Clophens, Phenaclors etc., had been widely used as thermal oil and transformer oil from 1930s until the 1970s. The transformer oils were analyzed as a main source of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) emission into the environment. Qualitative estimation of oil extracts as carried out with Aroclor 1242, 1248, 1254, 1260. The transformer oils contained the pure and mixed of Aroclor 1242, Aroclor 1254, and Aroclor 1260. Also, commercial screening kit of 20 ppm and 50 ppm were applied to the transformer oil samples.

  • Generally, in the temperature and environment test of railway electronics, cold and heat resistant tests are involved. Relevant KRS standards describe "There is no problem" as acceptance criteria for function check during the temperature and environment tests. According to this requirement, testers perform some function and performance tests which are easy to perform during test procedure using temperature chamber. This paper reviews the limit of current check method for cold and heat resistant tests and proposes an alternative. An alternative is the application of data sheet. Using data sheet, the temperature of equipped components is checked whether this temperature meet acceptance criteria or not. Also, this paper suggests temperature test range guidelines comparing temperature standards for general IC component. For the example in real field, this method uses the lowest temperature and the highest temperature in major domestic cities.

  • The performance test methodology for switch, router or integrated networks that make up the wired network is not clearly defined. Due to smart phones and multimedia traffic, the speed of the network is rapidly increasing to 100Gbps. However, there is no formalized test method, and performance test related parts are still being tested based on old data. Telecommunication companies and companies are testing their requirements in their own BMT, and government or public institutions are requesting performance tests from external organizations. As the demand for the performance test of next generation network equipments and the integrated network increases, analysis of the performance test method should be done as soon as possible. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the performance test method performed by the institute and propose guidelines that can be applied to all wired network equipment.

  • A Convolution Neural Network(CNN) model was utilized to detect surface cracks in asphalt concrete pavements. The CNN used for this study consists of five layers with 3×3 convolution filter and 2×2 pooling kernel. Pavement surface crack images collected by automated road surveying equipment was used for the training and testing of the CNN. The performance of the CNN was evaluated using the accuracy, precision, recall, missing rate, and over rate of the surface crack detection. The CNN trained with the largest amount of data shows more than 96.6% of the accuracy, precision, and recall as well as less than 3.4% of the missing rate and the over rate.

  • Recent trends in gas safety devices are actively developing and researching wireless gas safety devices in response to the development of wireless technologies and the needs of customers. Although there is controversy over the reliability of wireless, the strength of wireless convenience is increasing the introduction of gas safety devices, a reasonable performance evaluation method is needed to verify the safety and reliability of these devices. This paper amis to propose designing and manufacturing performance assesment equipment and methods for evaluating performance so that the safety and reliability of wireless gas safety devices can be verified and distributed smoothly. So, this study reviews the functions and methods of verifying reliability and safety by investing domestic and foreign the related wireless gas safety devices, produces equipments capable of testing major functions, and presents key performance assessment item and test methods that satisfy the reliability and safety requirements of wireless gas safety devices.

  • One of the main problems with gaseous fire extinguishers is the decrease in fire suppression capability due to the leakage of the fire extinguishing agents, either naturally or caused by obsolete equipment. Therefore, in this study, a real-time detector module for monitoring pressure leakages was developed and an assessment on its performance was carried out. Currently, there are no domestic or global standards for testing pressure leakage detection systems. Therefore, similar global standards, such as ISO 7240 and FM 1421, and the domestic law on "Receiver type-approval and technical standards for product inspection" were used as a reference for assessing the performance of the newly developed module. Its basic performance was assessed by applying compressed air to the module, and, as a result, the minimum working pressure was identified as 0.3 bar. Its environmental qualification was carried out to confirm the proper functioning of the module in different climates and the module was confirmed to function properly at both high ($50^{\circ}C$) and low ($-10^{\circ}C$) temperatures.

Verification on the Reduction Technique of Measurement Time of Total Radiated Power (TRP) by Using Effective Isotropic Radiated Power (EIRP) in 5G Frequency Band (유효등방복사전력(EIRP)을 활용한 5G 주파수 대역 총복사전력(TRP) 측정시간의 단축방안 검증)

  • In this paper, we described the verification results on method by using the computer simulation and practical experiment for reduction of total radiated power (TRP) measurement time consuming tens of hours. TRP measurements are used in the 5G band in order to exactly evaluate the wireless communication equipment, but it takes a long measurement time because of dense sampling interval. Moreover, if there are various beam forming scenarios, the total measurement time increases exponentially. Therefore, the world-wide research on reduction method of the TRP measurement time is intensively on going. The verified method in this paper is to calculate the TRP through effective isotropical radiated power (EIRP). At first, the relation of TRP and EIRP was investigated, and an antenna for testing was designed and constructed. And, the amount of error was analyzed through simulation and measurement. The analysed results showed that the derived TRP through EIRP has very small error. This method could be applied for TRP measurements of 5G wireless communication equipments.

  • This paper proposes a case study of applying to DO-278A, which is a software development standard of ground aviation equipment in communication, navigation, surveillance/air traffic management (CNS/ATM) domain, in order to develop software of Advanced surface movement, guidance and control system (A-SMGCS). It explains considerations to application of DO-278A standard, discusses how to tailor processes or requirements specified in DO-278A in detail, and explain tailored results. And it also summary problems or issues occurred during application of DO-278A, which can be appeared when DO-278A is applied to for the first time by any development part. These are required considerations in order to reduce trial and error. To the conclusion, it explains lessons learned from application of DO-278A and suggest how to solve these problems or issues.

  • In this paper, we introduce measures designed content for RTCA DO-160 F, Section 22 tests performed to verify the effects of indirect lightning and testing process of the test was carried out in the multi-purpose display certification process. This is referred to as indirect effects of lightning capability of an aircraft having electrical electronic equipment failure or damage to bring lightning induced voltages. In order to protect the avionics from lightning indirect effects of these aircraft are analyzing the effects of lightning strikes on aircraft and aircraft systems and interior design needs protection against the threat on their part. In this paper, we introduce RTCA DO-160 F, component selection process according to Section 22 category selection method and the selected level for determining the level of such measures for protection against lightning of multipurpose display for this aircraft. It also introduces the actual test process to confirm that the designed effectiveness of the selected part. We expect a good example of the lightning planned for future development of measures designed avionics through each step of the process introduced this.

  • Fire performance and fire safety of high-rise buildings have become major concerns after the disasters of World Trade Center in the U.S. in 2001 and Windsor tower in Spain in 2005. Performance based design (PBD) approaches have been considered as a better method for fire resistance design of structures because it is capable of incorporating test results of most recent fire resistance technologies. However, there is a difficulty to evaluate fireproof performance of large structures, which have multiple structural members such as columns, slabs, and walls. The difficulty is mainly due to the limitation in the testing equipment, such as size of furnace that can be used to carry out fire tests with existing criteria like ISO 834, BS 476, and KS F 2257. In the present research, a large scale calorie meter (10 MW) was used to conduct three full scale fire tests on medical modular blocks. Average fire load of 13.99 $kg/m^2$ was used in the first test. In the second test, the weighting coefficient of 3.5 (the fire load of 50 $kg/m^2$) was used to simulate the worst fire scenario. The flashover of the medical modular block occurred at 62 minutes in the first test and 12 minutes in the second test. The heat resistance capacity of the external wall, the temperatures and deformations of the structural members satisfied the requirements of fire resistance performance of 90 minutes burning period. The total heat loads and the heat values for each test are calculated by theoretical equations. The duration of burning was predicted. The predicted results were compared with the test results, and they agree quite well.
