  • In relation to differentiated mathematics education, Russia has a longer experience in research and practice than Korea. The mathematics curriculum for 10-11 grades currently in use in Russia is a level-specific curriculum and consists of a basic level and an advanced level. And in Russia mathematics textbooks for 10-11 grades are also textbooks for each level. In this study, we analyzed basic level textbook and advanced level textbook written by the same author group among the textbooks 'Algebra and Introduction of Mathematical Analysis' of the 10th grade in Russia. To analyze the main learning contents and textbook descriptions that were added in advanced level the 'real numbers' and 'complex numbers' sections were studied. The main contents of basic and advanced level textbooks for 'functions', 'trigonometric functions', 'trigonometric equations', 'conversions of trigonometric expressions', and 'derivatives', which are included in both basic and advanced textbooks were compared and analyzed, and the descriptive characteristics of the definitions and theorems presented in the two levels of textbooks were also compared and analyzed. From the results of this study, it is expected that various information on the contents of various level textbooks of mathematics, the differences between textbooks for each level, and strategies for the composition of textbooks for various level can be accumulated.

  • The purpose of this study is to compare and analyze middle school students' understanding of constant rate of change, in terms of observing, representing and interpreting dynamic functions in various ways using the SimCalc MathWorlds. For this purpose, parts of a class conducted for six students in the first grade of middle school were analyzed. The results suggested two implications for a class that used this program (SimCalc MathWorlds): First, we confirmed that the relationships between the two quantities that students notice in the same situation can be different. Second, the program helped students to develop a more comprehensive understanding of the meaning of the constant rate of change. The study also revealed the need to use technology in teaching and learning about functions, particularly to represent and interpret a given situation that involves the constant rate of change in various ways. Further, the results can contribute to developing contents and methods to teach functions using technology in consideration of students' different levels of understanding.

  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the perspectives of pre-service elementary teachers on science education of future by using Draw-A-Science-Teacher-Test Checklist and open-ended questionnaire. The subjects of this study were 136 pre-service elementary teachers. The results of the research are as follows. The pre-service teachers thought that the physical environment reflecting the latest science and technology for science education will be developed in the future. However, few respondents indicated that student-centered equipment or a free and creative classroom environment would be provided. Second, they predicted that there would be changes in teacher's activities due to the introduction of advanced facilities and equipment, but most of the other teachers' activities were thought to be similar to those of current teachers. Third, the pre-service elementary teachers thought that a variety of new technologies would be used in science education and science teachers would mainly teach high-technology, IT technology, science knowledge, and newly discovered science concepts. In addition, we found that pre-service elementary teachers' images were more 'teacher-centered' than 'student-centered'. These results show that pre-service elementary teachers are expected to utilize the latest science and technology actively in science education in 2030 and that it will lead to changes in the physical environment, teachers' activities, education contents, and teaching and learning methods. In addition, they viewed acquisition of science concept as an important goal of science education in the future and had different points of view from the current science education curriculum and scholars' emphasis on educational research for the future.

  • The objective of this paper is to reveal the cause of failure of New Math in the field of the SMSG area education from the didactical point of view. At first, we analyzed Euclid's (Elements), De Morgan's (Elements of arithmetic), and Legendre's (Elements of geometry and trigonometry) in order to identify characteristics of the area conception in the SMSG. And by analyzing the controversy between Wittenberg(1963) and Moise(1963), we found that the elementariness and the mental object of the area concept are the key of the success of SMSG's approach. As a result, we conclude that SMSG's approach became separated from the mathematical contents of the similarity concept, the idea of same-area, incommensurability and so on. In this account, we disclosed that New Math gave rise to the lack of elementariness and geometrical mental object, which was the fundamental cause of failure of New Math.

  • This research analyzed reality of multicultural education of Korea and suggested policy implication through a questionnaire survey of teachers, students, and parents in elementary schools, Daegu City. Multicultural policies in Korea mainly helped a member of multicultural family who immigrated into Korea to learn Korean language and culture. Thus, the common people have a few chances to have multicultural education; however they mainly experienced multiculture indirectly through mass media. Therefore they had low level of understanding and satisfaction and their consciousness was narrow. Most of people completely come out in sympathy with that multicultural education should be taught at school. To overcome the current issues of multicultural education, its goals, contents and tasks should be clearly established. Multicultural education is taught from elementary school in holistic approach; however, methods of learning and teaching are different according to a curriculum.

  • The underlying purpose of this paper is to interest scholars in 'Trade English'. 'Trade English' has to be recognized as one area of 'International Trade' disciplines and more studies have to be carried out with more attention from the scholars. Although there are many areas to be dealt with in 'Trade English', this paper discusses about the syllabus design of 'Trade English' from an educator's point of view. First of all, this paper reviews some theoretical background researches about needs analysis and syllabus design in 'Trade English' teaching and learning as ESP. With a systematic structure under the decent syllabus, selection and sequence of contents get clear and easier. Secondly, along with the rationals based on theoretical researches, how these theories are being or can be applied to the real classroom are discussed for further studies. A different syllabus would be designed according to needs analysis. In reality, the syllabus for practitioners who are doing their jobs in International Trade areas has to be definitely different from the one for pre-practitioners who are studying in International Trade areas at the tertiary education level. Namely, different learners present different needs and different needs make up the different syllabus. In order to provide these learners with the syllabus which can address their own needs, more researches or studies have to be done in the future. Since 'Trade English' is the discipline where two areas-International Trade and English as a second/foreign language-are mixed, the researches or studies also have to be carried out collaboratively by scholars from both areas.

  • Software education is highly needed to train talent in the fourth industrial age. In order to emphasize the importance of software education. In recognition of the importance of software education, Korea decided to implement 17 hours of software education in elementary school from 2019 in the revised education curriculums in 2015. Because all teachers in elementary school have to be able to teach software, the government is carrying out systematic training for teachers. It is necessary to analyze the curriculum for preparing the software education at the university that educates teachers The results of this study show that subject education curriculums for software education are 1.64 hour in 11 educational universities and contents of education are composed of computer general education. In this software curriculum, it is not possible to educate teachers who can teach software education in universities that educate elementary teachers in Korea. Therefore, in order to develop the ability of preliminary teachers to educate software, curriculum of education college should be conducted for 5 hours or more similar to other subjects, and education content should be composed of teaching and learning methods for software education.
