  • The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of science writing activities on high school students' scientific thinking ability in Life Science I class. In order to do this, 6 teaching-learning materials dealing with science writing and an evaluation tool for scientific thinking ability were developed. And the subjects were 224 high school students of 6 classes. As a result of applying science writing activities in Life Science I class, the students' scientific thinking ability was improved. And students' inductive/deductive/critical/creative thinking ability was improved. In addition, in the most of the evaluation criteria of scientific thinking ability, the scores of posttest were higher than those of pretest. The number of students to show higher performance levels was increased. Therefore, science writing activities have positive effect on high school students' scientific thinking ability. This study provides some implications for teaching science writing activities to develop students' scientific thinking ability.

  • Developing computational thinking ability is crucial for those living in the 21st century. However, the current computational education system cannot satisfy this need. Current computational education tends to be limited to the teaching of the use of application programs or the teaching of the programming language. This is why the primary puzzle-based learning program was developed. This program promotes the development of the learner's computational thinking ability and understanding of the principles of the computer science as opposed to the fragmented, uniform programing education. In order to prove the effectiveness of this newly developed program, a 35-hour study was conducted to 41 students from grade 3 to 6 classrooms in Jeju Province. It was proved that this program brings positive changes in creativie problem-solving ability and problem-solving abilities in computer science. This paper is to provide the ground for the development of an educational program and to prove the effectiveness of thereof, and finally introduce the Primary Puzzle-Based Learning Program as the alternative computational education.

  • In this paper, we analyze the influence of mathematics teaching-learning for high level math problems of A-type of mathematics section on the College Scholastic Ability Test(CSAT). To analyze the influence, we compare and analyze units and field of questions set at examinations based on the rate of wrong answers in A-type mathematics test of the CSAT from 2012 to 2016. Also, we study the recognition of academic high school students and teachers about units and fields on math which need to allow more time to improve grade for A-type of mathematics section on the CSAT. We found following facts. First, high level math problems determining rank of high rank students on the CSAT was taken mostly from the unit related a exponential function and a logarithmic function. Second, these problems need more time for a calculation rather than an ability for students to deepen their understanding of the concept and quality of education. Third, high rank students spend a lot of time to study more important units and fields of mathematics on the CSAT such as a exponential function and a logarithmic function, and teachers spend a lot of time to teach them.

  • Robot education is the learning instrument suitable for the logical thinking and problem solving ability of students, but in the elementary school, research data for curriculum, teaching material developing, and special teacher for the purpose of efficient robot education is rare. So this study investigated and researched on the educational use of robot as the instrument for enhancement of the logical ability and the problem solving ability of elementary school students. In order to introduce contents related to robot in the elementary, I investigated and analyzed what is discussed. I analyzed their opinions for the efficient robot education of the elementary school student through the questionary survey of the elementary school teacher in charge of robot education in the discretion activity class. and I suggested the condition of robot, proper contents, the form of robot, and teaching & learning method suitable for introduction in the elementary school curriculum based on analyzed contents.

  • The purpose of this paper is to examine the concept of computational thinking in an easy-to-understand way for non-computer majors. First, It is necessary to expand from the problem-solving perspective to the perspective of problem discovery and creation ability, and establish it as a thinking ability that can cultivate human-like thinking, that is, creative thinking. Second, the concept of computational thinking can be viewed not only in the cognitive aspect but also in the emotional motive and attitude aspect. Third, systematic design of teaching methods is needed based on the expansion of the concept to computational thinking that helps learners to improve their reflective ability. It is expected that the results of this study will serve as basic research for various attempts in terms of the purpose and teaching method of computational thinking education in the future.

  • In a situation in which online classes were suddenly introduced due to COVID-19, there were many cases where learners did not properly learn science process skills that were not presented in the achievement standards for reasons such as reducing the number of class hours. It is difficult to expect positive science inquiry ability and science attitude from learners who have entered middle school without understanding the process skills. Therefore, in this study, the effect on science inquiry ability and science attitude was investigated by developing worksheets with enhanced process skills and applying it to learner-centered teaching linked online and offline. As a result, it was confirmed that there was a statistically significant positive difference between both. Based on this research, it is expected that students will pay attention to the process skills, which is the basis of science subjects, and continue to experience the process skills through learning-centered classes.

  • This study investigated the preservice and inservice elementary teachers' perceptions on professionalism of teaching profession, professionalism of science teaching, and their self-efficacy on science teaching. For this study, 64 sophomore, 53 senior preservice teachers and 23 elementary teachers who were also graduate students were participated. The questionnaires consisted of 5 Likert scaled and descriptive items about the professionalism of teaching profession, professionalism of science teaching, and self-efficacy on science teaching. The results showed that some areas of the professionalism of teaching profession had significant differences between the grades in preservice teachers and/or inservice teachers. Most preservice teachers and teachers thought that they need to have professional ability, but not a few teachers thought it was not necessary to have professionalism of science teaching as a elementary teacher, even though their major was science education. The teachers who had higher perceptions on the needs of the professionalism of science teaching showed high self-efficacy on science teaching.

  • The paper is about teaching culture in a language learning. There are many teachers who are afraid of teaching foreign language with culture. They are delighted to teach politics, economics, history, art and literature as objective culture. But they are hesitant to teach subjective culture which is connected with a communication competency. The paper suggests three stages to instruct culture in a schoolroom. The first stage, it is growing out of the self-centered view. The second step, be developing self-consciousness through comparing mother culture with target culture. The last stage, it has to response to appropriately target culture. The teaching materials for the model suggested are two movies. Because the cultural aspects in the moves are subjective culture, so it has something in common with target cultural situations in a language learning. This method which is teaching culture in a the language learning has the advantage of being easy to teachers and learners. Most students like to watch a movie. The teaching material is The Chronicles of Narnia : The Lion, the Witch and The Wardrobe와 Guess Who?. I hope that this suggestion for cultural teaching is helpful for understanding each other.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop a proper teaching strategy to raise students' interests and creative problem-solving ability in science. And the result of applying this developed teaching strategy to elementary science lesson were compared with that of traditional science lesson. For comparison, two classes of $5^{th}$ grade in S elementary school in B city were selected. After pre-test, one class, experimental group, took a science lesson applying developed teaching strategy and other class, comparative group, took a traditional science lesson. After respective lesson, two classes did post test. The results of this study can be summarized as follows. First, IAAI(Interest-Activities-Attainment-Initiation) teaching strategy was developed. IAAI teaching strategy was composed of 4 stages which were (1)interest in science, (2)science experiment activities, (3)attainment to science knowledge, (4)initiation of creative thinking and 4 stages were progressed in serial order in science lesson. Second, after lessons, the experimental group achieved higher mark in the test of science academic achievement than the comparative group and it was statistically meaningful difference. Third, after lessons, the experimental group was more improved in science-related attitudes than the comparative group and it was statistically meaningful difference. Fourth, after the lesson, the experimental group was more improved than the comparative group in the creativity test and the difference was statistically meaningful.
