The purpose of this study was to examine the characteristics of a good teacher of infants from the perspective of working mothers from double-income families in light of the direct and indirect relationships between working mothers and teachers. The subjects in this study were six working mothers from double-income families that had infants who attended N and S daycare centers in the city of Chunan. An in-depth interview was implemented individually. The findings of the study were as follows: First, as for the looks of a good teacher in terms of teacher-infant relationships, the working mothers perceived that a good teacher of infants should be like a mother, try to step up the growth and change of infants and play with them with pleasure. Second, concerning the looks of a good teacher of infants in terms of teacher-mother relationships, the working mothers felt that a good teacher should serve as an emotional supporter for mothers and as one who could help mothers acquire more child rearing knowledge. Third, regarding the looks of a good teacher in terms of an educator, the mothers perceived that a good teacher of infants should be steady, genuine, professional and cooperative.
Objective: The purpose of this study is to investigate the effects of childcare teachers' teacher efficacy, psychological burnout and the practice of respecting rights for infants. Methods: For this study, questionnaires were distributed to 398 childcare teachers in the cities of I and S. The collected data were analyzed by descriptive statistic, multiple regression and Cronbach's ${\alpha}$ for reliability by SPSS-WIN computer program. Results: The results yielded some interesting results. First, childcare teachers were shown to have higher respecting rights for infants but just average teacher efficacy rates. Secondly, the study showed a positive correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and childcare teachers' teacher efficacy. However, there was a negative correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and psychological burnout. There was also a negative correlation between the practice of respecting rights for infants and childcare teachers' teacher efficacy. Third, the higher the childcare teachers' teacher efficacy of childcare teachers, the more positive influences existed in the practice of respecting rights for infants. It also showed that the lower the degree of psychological burnout, there was a negative impact on the practice of respecting rights for infants. Conclusion/Implications: The results of this study suggest that a support plan is needed to boost childcare teachers' teacher efficacy, and to lower the psychological burnout of childcare teachers with regards to the practice of respecting rights for infants.
Objective: The aim of this study was to examine the mediated effect of teacher-infant relationships between teacher efficacy and infant's adjustment to child care centers. Methods: A total of 137 child care teachers that lived in Gwangju and Jeollanamdo participated in this study. They were asked to answer two survey questionnaires for two infants. The data were analyzed using analysis of frequency, Pearson's correlation coefficient, and hierarchical multiple regression analysis. Results: The main results are as follows. First, teacher-infant relationships partially mediated the relationship between teacher efficacy and two sub-factors (prosocial behavior and day work adjustment) of adjustment in child care centers. Unlikely as it was, several sub-factors such as positive emotion, peer adaptation, and self-strength were fully mediated by teacher-infant relationships. Conclusion: The present study suggests that it is necessary to improve teacher-infant relationships with teacher efficacy in order to improve infants' adaptation to daycare. In addition, it should be understood that the structural relationship of the influence factors is different depending on the sub-factors of the child care adjustment.
This study aims to analyze the effects of infants' attachment to their mother and child care teacher on their adaptation to child care. Data were collected in a purposive sample involving 100 infants and toddlers at age one and two, their mothers, and 36 teachers were analyzed with two-way ANOVA. The results showed that the effects of infants' attachment to their mother and teacher varied by subfactors of adaptation. 'Social Relationships' and 'Positive Emotion' were significantly different only among infants who established insecure attachment with their mother. Second, the level of 'Social Relationships' and 'Positive Emotion' were significantly high when teacher-infant attachment was secure among infants who established insecure attachment with their mother. Third, there were significant effects of mother-infant attachment on 'Aggressive Behavior' as infants who established insecure attachment with their mother showed a significantly higher level of 'Aggressive Behavior' than infants having secure attachment with their mother.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to explore about 2-year-old infants' attachment security to a child care teacher and peer play process through a case study. For this purpose, the attachment security was assessed with attachment Q-set to 2-year-old five infants at a day care center in Seoul. Participants of this study are four infants included two infants attached securely to their child care teacher and two infants attached insecurely to their child care teacher. Methods: Participant observation was conducted from April 12 to July 19 in 2018 through 36 observations in free play activities. The Data collected from the transcriptions of video shoots and teachers' interviews, child care plans, and reflexive journal was analyzed and interpreted. Results: The main results of the research were as follows: The beginning of peer play, when infants invited their peers to play, secure attachment infants selected suitable play partners and asked for a specific play behaviors. However, insecure attachment infants invited unsuitable play partners and asked uncertainly play actions to peers. In addition, when infants entered in-progress play, secure attachment infants understood the context of play but insecure attachment infants did not understand the context of play. In the progress of peer play, secure attachment infants cooperated with peers, shared play objects, but insecure attachment infants did not cooperate complementally with peers and express only their opinions. As well, insecure attachment infants could not play harmoniously without child care teacher's interventions. In the end of the peer play, secure attachment infants finished in collaboration with peers but insecure attachment infants failed to finish with the peers and was turned into play with the child care teacher because of peer conflict. Conclusion/Implications: This study has implications for basic resources to think about the role of child care teachers by helping them understand about the relation 2-year-old infants' attachment security to them and peer play process.
The purpose of this research was to investigate meaning of teachers as they manifest themselves in the emotional regulation of 2year old infants in a daycare center. In addition, the research attempts to provide basic research data that can be used as a guideline for teacher's awareness, roles, attitudes, and classroom management for infant's emotional education in the future. To achieve this goal, participatory observation was conducted in a child care center class for infants under 2 years old from January 17 to January 29, 2012. The teacher is defined as follow : Teachers are authority figures whose image is that of absolute authority, and coupled with their dual role of passive caretakers. Additionally, they function as guides who guided infants through the process of emotional socialization, and played the central role of emotional contagion from whose expression speech and atmosphere the said infants receive much influence. Such results seemed to indicate that teachers today do not fully comprehend the importance of their roles in influencing the emotion regulation of infants.
The purpose of this study was to investigate infants' individual attempts at interaction with their teachers in the two-year-old class curriculum of a child care center. To achieve this aim, this study analyzed both the types of interactions that infants attempted with their teachers, as well as the underlying message contained in infants' attempts at of interacting. This study used the complete participation observation methodology following an ethnographic approach, a research method which can help us see the whole picture by tracing the main causes and connections. The participants in this study were 13 infants and their teachers in 2 two-year-old classes (Hope and Love) of the Vision Child Care Center located in G city. The researcher, who was also a Hope-class teacher, ad as an observer, and the Love-class teacher acted as an assistant observer. Participant observation was made everyday except the days when field trips and group activities wewe planned, from october 2009 to January 2010. A variety of methods were used to collect materials, such as participant observation, in-depth interviews and collection of documents.
This study examined the effect of infant teacher's sensitivity, efficacy and interaction on the social and emotional development of infants. The participants of this study were 169 infants and their teachers in daycare centers located in Seoul and Gyeonggi-do. The instruments were collected through teachers' responses. Data were analyzed through the variance analysis using PASW 18.0 to verify the infant teachers' susceptibility, efficacy, and infant-teacher interaction based on infant teachers' background variables; to find out the relationship between the variables, Pearson correlation analysis was performed, and to find out the relative influence of variables on the infants' social and emotional development, stepwise multiple regression analysis was performed. Results were as follows. Firstly, Among the background variables of the teachers, their career as infant teachers displayed differences in the infants' social and emotional development, and the susceptibility, efficacy, and infant-teacher interactions displayed partial differences based on the teaching career, career as infant teachers, age, daycare center type, and the academic background of the teachers. Secondly, there were positive relationships between infant teacher's sensitivity, efficacy and interaction and infants' social and emotional development. Thirdly, infant teachers' sensitivity, efficacy and infant-teacher interaction had an influence on infants' social and emotional development at the same time. Especially, sensitivity and interaction were powerful and influential variables and their explained variance was 53%. These results suggested that teachers' efforts must be made to interact positively with infants and to increase their sensitivity level to respond to infants in order to increase infants' social and emotional development.
Objective: The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of communication and cooperation between teachers and parents on infant care. Specifically, this study explored the direct effect of teacher-parent partnership on teacher-infant interactions and the indirect effect through teacher sensitivity. Methods: The participants of this study were 216 teachers in charge of infant classes at child care centers located in Gyeonggi-do. They responded to questionnaires on teacher-parent partnership, their sensitivity, and teacher-infant interactions. Data were analyzed using structural equation modeling. Results: First, teacher-parent partnership did not have a direct impact on teacher-infant interactions. Second, teacher-parent partnership indirectly influenced teacher-infant interactions through teacher sensitivity. In other words, a high level of teacher-parent partnership was associated with a high level of sensitivity, subsequently resulting in the provision of high-quality interactions for infants. Conclusion/Implications: This study confirmed the role of teacher sensitivity as a mechanism to explain how teacher-parent partnership is linked to teacher-child interactions. The results emphasize the importance of communication and cooperation between teachers and parents in enhancing teachers' sensitivity and, ultimately, providing high-quality child care to infants.
Subjects were 78 12- to 35- month old infants, their mothers, and their teachers. Instruments included the Revised Toddler Temperament Questionnaire(Y. H. Choi 1990) and the Assessment Profile for Early Childhood Programs(M. K. Hong 1997; S. K. Kim 1999). There was no significant difference in perceptions of infant temperament between mothers and teachers. Infant-mother interaction differed by infant temperament in that mothers had high scores with easy infants but low scores with difficult children. On the other hand teachers maintained high interactions with difficult infants in the case of infant's rhythmicity. Infant-teacher interaction correlated with such teacher variables as teacher-infant ratio, teachers' academic backgrounds and working hours.
