  • Objective: This study aims to examine the factors associated with teacher intention to report child abuse in child care centers. Methods: Data were collected from teachers at child care centers in the Jeonbuk region, using a self-administered questionnaire. In this study, 186 completed questionnaires were used to analyze the data. Results: The respondents reported their intention to report child abuse as follows: physical abuse(49.5%), emotional abuse(16.1%), sexual abuse(12.9%), and neglect(15.6%). The multiple hierarchical regression analyses revealed that participation at child abuse prevention training programs and awareness of reporting procedures were significantly associated with teacher intention to report child abuse at child care centers in Model 2. Also, attitudes towards reporting child abuse were significantly associated with teacher intention to report child abuse in Model 3. Conclusion/Implications: This study suggests evaluating chid abuse prevention training programs more accurately because the respondents who did not participate in the programs showed statistically significant higher mean scores of intention to report child abuse than who participated(1.83 vs .85). In addition, educational programs about child abuse for teachers in child care centers need to focus on changes in attitudes towards reporting child abuse, which in turn can change behavior.

  • The purpose of this study is to investigate the relationship between the OKgram and abuse awareness, and between the the characteristics of the major field and abuse awareness of pre-service child care teachers who are taking the (child care) course as part of their university curriculum. Positiveness isclassified into 2 subfactors,self-positiveness and other positiveness, while abuses are classified into 4 sub factors, viz. body, sex, emotion and neglect, in order to investigate and analyze the effectsof each sub factor. Asurvey was carried out for students of the department of Child Care and the department of Social Welfare of the universities in Gyeonggi-do, Gangwon-do and Seoul, during the 5 day period from 8th May to 12th May, 2017. After conducting a frequency analysis, correlation and multiple regression analyses were performed, from which we madethe following conclusions. First, it was found that positiveness influences abuse awareness, and that when other positiveness is higher than self-positiveness, abuse awareness is increased. We also concluded that we should provide more personality programs that enhance others positiveness. Second, the seriousness of abuse level showed an average value of 4.594, which is highly recognized, while the level (required) to recognize the index wasin the order of sexual(4.789), physical(4.587), neglect(4.510), emotional(4.498), with the index of emotion beingthe lowest. This indicatesthe necessity to strengthen the social standard on emotion abuse awareness. Third, in the characteristics of the major field, the respondents answered that their actual work experience of being a pre-service child care teacher was helpful to raise their abuse awareness, and thatchild care practice wasthe most important. Therefore,we concluded that it is necessary to arrange practical courses which increase the chance of obtaining actual work experience and provide child care practice during child care teacher training.

  • The purpose of this study was to develop an instrument for assessing teachers' awareness of science teaching through analogy (ASTA) and to establish its validity and reliability. Based on the literatures on science teaching with analogies, we constructed 23 survey items. Face validity of the items was established using three science education experts. Through exploratory factor analysis with responses of 35 pre- and 26 inservice elementary school teachers, the instruments were constructed on four subcategories: awareness of analogies in science, use of analogy in teaching and learning, self-efficacy in science knowledge, and knowledge of analogy. The data collected from pre- and in-service elementary teachers demonstrated that overall the teachers' awareness of analogy in science was neutral, which indicated they did not have clear standpoints of science teaching through analogy. Further examination demonstrated that there was no significant difference between pre- and in-service teachers and between two genders. Moreover, there was no significant difference among teachers who preferred either didactic or discovery teaching approaches. We conclude that ASTA test would contribute assessment of teachers' awareness of analogy in science teaching while further examination of the instrument will warrant for its broader use.

  • The purpose of this study is to find out the influence of the urban stream investigation on elementary school students' environmental conservation awareness. The urban stream investigation was applied to the experimental group and the control group has been taught by the traditional teaching method focused on the teacher's lecture. To analyze the effect of urban stream investigation, the pre- and post-tests on environmental conservation awareness composed of interest in living things, perception about water pollution and environmental conservation were applied to the both groups. The results were analyzed by One-way ANOVA and ANCOVA. As a result, there were not significant difference between the experimental and the control group in the pretest(p>.05). In the post-tests on the student's interest in living things, perception about water pollution and environmental conservation the scores of the experimental group were higher than those of the control group(p<0.05). Therefore, the urban stream investigation made a positive effect on improving of elementary school students' environmental conservation awareness.

The results showed possibilities and limitations of R-learning. As possibilities of R-learning, it was found that robot is am attractive teaching materials. In addition, it was found that robot might be an assistant teacher. Third, robot helps children improving their social development. Fourth, teachers might get confident while using robots in their teaching and learning. However, there were limitations of R-learning. First, teachers need to understand what R-learning means. Second, there are some functional problems of R-learning. Third, there are lack of qualitative contents of R-learning. Finally, robots need to be general to every children.

Seniors (N=106) from an university of education were asked to predict elementary school students' misconceptions on science topics such as phase changes and dissolution. Their conceptions about teaching and learning were also measured. The results indicated that the preservice teachers' predictions about the kinds and/or the ratios of students' misconceptions were different from those reported in previous studies. The low level preservice teachers in terms of the degrees of possessing traditional conception about teaching and learning predicted more students' common misconceptions. The degrees of preservice teachers' constructivist conception about teaching and learning and their major, however, did not significantly influence the numbers of common misconceptions predicted.

  • The purpose of this study was to analyze the trends in the studies on safety education of infant-early childhood teachers in order to provide basic data for a variety of studies in the field of child education. We consulted a total of 59 dissertations and journals articles on the safety education of infant-early childhood teachers published from 2008 to 2018. Our results were as follows: First, we found that the largest number of studies concerned safety awareness, followed by status and awareness, safety actions, safety education analysis, safety accidents and countermeasures, emergencies, development of programs, and teacher education. Second, we found that the most popular targets were child-care of teachers, followed by teacher-trainees, and center directors. Third, among the types of studies, we found that investigative quantitative studies were the most prevalent, followed by correlational studies, qualitative studies, and experimental studies. In terms of methods of gathering data, we found that questionnaires were the most commonly used, followed by qualitative studies, literature reviews, qualitative/quantitative studies, and quantitative literature reviews.
