  • Gallium nitride (GaN)-based power switching devices, such as high-electron-mobility transistors (HEMT), provide significant performance improvements in terms of faster switching speed, zero reverse recovery, and lower on-state resistance compared with conventional silicon (Si) metal-oxide-semiconductor field-effect transistors (MOSFET). These benefits of GaN HEMTs further lead to low loss, high switching frequency, and high power density converters. Through simulation and experimentation, this research thoroughly contributes to the understanding of performance characterization including the efficiency, loss distribution, and thermal behavior of a 160-W GaN-based synchronous boost converter under various output voltage, load current, and switching frequency operations, as compared with the state-of-the-art Si technology. Original suggestions on design considerations to optimize the GaN converter performance are also provided.

  • To solve the low efficiency problem of low-voltage power supplies, it has been studied to replace the schottky barrier diode with the MOSFET synchronous rectifier. In this paper, Phase Shift-Controlled Clamp Mode Zero Voltage Switching-Multi Resonant Converter with Synchronous Rectifier (PSC CM ZVS-MRC with SR) is presented to achieve high efficiency in low-voltage power supplies. The characteristics analysis of synchronous rectifier is established by using the MOSFET equivalent circuit and efficiency comparison is established between the Synchronous Rectifier and the schottky barrier diode. To verify the validity of the analysis, 33W(3.3V, 10A) PSC CM ZVS-MRC with self-driven synchronous rectifier at switching frequency of 1MHz is designed and tested. And it is confirmed that the experimental results are well consistent with the theoretical results. The maximum efficiency of the converter is 83.4% at full load, which is 3.3% higher than conventional schottky diode rectification.

  • Recently, the real time simulator to develop the inverter drive board and motor control algorithm for high power induction motor and PM synchronous motor is required. In this paper, the real time simulator based on the voltage control for a PM synchronous motor is proposed. The resistor, inductor, and the induced voltage for the modeling of a PM synchronous motor is implemented by the power converter including the LCL filter and the PWM rectifier. The induced voltage of a PM synchronous motor is simulated by the capacitor voltage of the LCL filter, which is controlled by PI voltage controller and the deadbeat current controller. The operation and the simulated characteristics of the proposed real time simulator for a PM synchronous motor is verified by the simulation.

  • An LLC resonant converter is widely used due to many advantages over others. However, it is still not used in high current applications because it is difficult to drive the synchronous rectifiers. In this paper, a novel gate driving sheme for secondary-side synchronous rectifiers is introduced and its simulation results are also presented

  • Because of the shortcomings of the PID controllers and traditional drive systems of permanent magnet synchronous motors (PMSMs), a PMSM passivity-based control (PBC) drive system based on a quasi-Z source matrix converter (QZMC) is proposed in this paper. The traditional matrix converter is a buck converter with a maximum voltage transmission ratio of only 0.866, which limits the performance of the driven motor. Therefore, in this paper a quasi-Z source circuit is added to the input side of the two-stage matrix converter (TSMC) and its working principle has also been verified. In addition, the controller of the speed loop and current loop in the conventional vector control of a PMSM is a PID controller. The PID controller has the problem since its parameters are difficult to adjust and its anti-interference capability is limited. As a result, a port controlled dissipative Hamiltonian model (PCHD) of a PMSM is established. Thereafter a passivity-based controller based on the interconnection and damping assignment (IDA) of a QZMC-PMSM is designed, and the stability of the equilibrium point is theoretically verified. Simulation and experimental results show that the designed PBC control system of a PMSM based on a QZMC can make the PMSM run stably at the rated speed. In addition, the system has strong robustness, as well as good dynamic and static performances.

  • In this paper, An Automatic Synchronous Switch Post Regulator for Multi-Output Flyback Converter is proposed. The proposed circuit is composed simply using a new automatic synchronous switch instead of conventional complex Switch Post Regulator owing to difficulty of drive circuit materialization and synchronization between main output and auxiliary output. By using the proposed circuit, we can make simple and inexpensive Multi-Output Converter with variable and accurate output voltage and proved adequacy of proposed circuit through experiment, simulation and theoretical analysis.

  • Currently, with the thriving development in the field of solar energy, the widespread adoption of solar grid-connected power conversion systems is rapidly expanding. As the market continues to grow, the efficiency of solar power conversion systems is steadily increasing, while prices are rapidly decreasing. Photovoltaic panels often produce low output voltages, and Boost converters are commonly employed to elevate and stabilize these voltages. They are also utilized for implementing Maximum Power Point Tracking (MPPT), ensuring the full utilization of solar power generation. Recently, synchronous control techniques have been introduced, using controllable switching devices like Si IGBT or SiC MOSFET to replace the diodes in the original circuits. However, this has raised concerns related to costs. This paper offers a compromise solution, considering both the performance and economic factors of the converter. It proposes a hybrid high-efficiency synchronous converter structure that combines Si IGBT and SiC MOSFET. Additionally, the proposed topology has been practically implemented and tested, with results confirming its feasibility and cost-effectiveness.

  • This paper presents a high efficiency resonant asymmetrical half-bridge flyback converter. The primary half-bridge circuit of the converter operates by a soft-switching type using the asymmetrical pulse-width modulation (PWM) method with the resonant capacitance and transformer leakage inductance. The secondary flyback circuit of the proposed converter utilizes a synchronous rectifier, which operates by a new voltage-driven method with a simple drive circuit. Thus the proposed converter improves the total efficiency. This paper explains the operational principle of the proposed converter by each mode and shows the converter design consideration and a design example for the prototype converter, respectively. After that, the proposed simple driving technique of the synchronous rectifier by a voltage-driven method is explained, briefly. The designed prototype converter has wide input voltage (AC $V_{in,rms}$=75~265[V]), 5[V] DC output voltage, and 100[W] output power. To verify the excellent performance of the proposed converter, the designed prototype is implemented and experimented. The good performance of the proposed converter is shown through the experimental results.
