  • Charge transfer mechanism of poly(4,4'-aminotriphenylene hexafluoroisopropylidenediphthalimide) (TP6F PI) which exhibits bistable ON and OFF switching has been studied using photoemission electron spectroscopy (PES) and near-edge x-ray absorption fine structure (NEXAFS). Here, we demonstrate novel set-up in which holes are injected by photoemission process instead of direct charge carrier injection via metal electrode. The accumulated charges on the PI surface in the OFF state abruptly flow across the PI film when the bias voltage of a back electrode reaches a specific value, indicating that the film is changed to the ON state. Core level and x-ray absorption spectra probed at charge injection region via photoemission process do not show any evidences implying structural modification of TP6F PI during the phase change. Whereas, in valence band spectra, the highest occupied molecular orbital (HOMO) is shifted toward Fermi level, responsible for improved hole-mobility of TP6F PI of ON state.

  • As a means of improving the reliability of a process control system, a FTCS(Fault Tolerant Control System) is designed and applied to the boiler controller of a thermal power plant. The proposed FTCS has capabilities of fault detection and diagnosis as well as back-up control and bumpless switching. A prototype of FTCS is implemented on an IBM PC as an add-on system and it is experimentally verified by using a boiler process simulator together with simplified analog controllers and a switching unit that an one-fold fault is detected in real time and back-up controller takes over the role of the original controller, controlling the faulty loop.

  • The power overshoot is rises in the output during the transient period when the output of nuclear reactor is increased from the initial state to the desired target state and certain amount of constraint on power level is of primary importance for safety control of nuclear reactor. Therefore, the maximum principle is applied to this process control in transfering its power from the initial state(no, co) to the final target state(2no, 2co or 1.5no, 1.5co), adjusting the reactivity so that its overshoot is limited within the allowable constraint required. In this case, the switching points, switching times, optimal lima and optimal control reactivity are calculated.

  • In this paper, we describe the design and implementation of the Label Distribution Protocol (LDP) for Multiprotocol Label Switching System. We review the implementation issues of LDP that is required to make a gigabit switched router, and propose a detail design of it. We present the data structures and procedures for the LDP as a result, which are based on IETF standard. We present design issues for applying this to carrier class products. The implemented protocol could afford 40,000 entries of the IP routing table that is required for deploying this system to commercialized data network. Furthermore this system implemented using the standard API of Unix, as a result, it has portability. By implementing LDP based on the international standard and these implementation issues, we expect that the implemented LDP will be interoperable with other commercialized products. We prove the validity of the design of the LDP through prototyping, and also verify the prototype with the specification using the process algebra and the performance analysis.

  • Drop casting, a solution process, is a simple low-cost fabrication technique that does not waste material. In this study, we elucidate the effect of the concentration of a InGaZnO solution on the electrical properties of drop-cast oxide thin-film transistors. The higher the concentration the larger the amount of remnant InGaZnO solutes, which yields a thicker thin film. Accordingly, the electrical properties were strongly dependent on the concentration. At a high concentration of 0.3 M (or higher), a large current flowed but did not lead to switching characteristics. At a concentration lower than 0.01 M, switching characteristics were observed, but the mobility was small. In addition to a high mobility, sufficient switching characteristics were obtained at a concentration of 0.1 M owing to the appropriate thickness of the semiconductor layer. This study provides a technical basis for the low-cost fabrication of switching devices capable of driving a sensor array.

  • The most popular approach in object classification is based on the bag of visual-words model, which has several fundamental problems that restricting the performance of this method, such as low time efficiency, the synonym and polysemy of visual words, and the lack of spatial information between visual words. In view of this, an object classification based on weakly supervised E2LSH and saliency map weighting is proposed. Firstly, E2LSH (Exact Euclidean Locality Sensitive Hashing) is employed to generate a group of weakly randomized visual dictionary by clustering SIFT features of the training dataset, and the selecting process of hash functions is effectively supervised inspired by the random forest ideas to reduce the randomcity of E2LSH. Secondly, graph-based visual saliency (GBVS) algorithm is applied to detect the saliency map of different images and weight the visual words according to the saliency prior. Finally, saliency map weighted visual language model is carried out to accomplish object classification. Experimental results datasets of Pascal 2007 and Caltech-256 indicate that the distinguishability of objects is effectively improved and our method is superior to the state-of-the-art object classification methods.

  • In this paper, a novel offset-based single-state pulse width modulation (PWM) method for achieving zero common-mode voltage (CMV) and reducing switching losses in multilevel inverters is presented. The specific active switching state of the zero common-mode (ZCM) voltage that approximates the reference voltage can be deduced from the switching state sequence of the reduced CMV phase disposition PWM (CMV PD PWM) method. From the reference leg voltages for the zero common-mode voltage, an N-to-2-level transformation defines a virtual two-level inverter and the corresponding nominal leg voltage references. The commutation process of the reduced CMV PD PWM method in a multilevel inverter and its outputs can be simply followed in a nominal switching time diagram for the virtual inverter. The characteristics of the reduced CMV PD PWM and the single-state PWM for zero common-mode voltage are analyzed in detail in this paper. The theoretical analysis of the proposed PWM method is verified by experimental results.

  • In this paper, we try to improve the performance of the demand paging loader suggested to use the demand paging way that is not based on operating system. The demand paging switching strategy used in the existing operating system can know the recently used pages by running multi-processing. Then, based on it, some page switching strategies have been made for the recently used pages or the frequently demanded pages. However, the strategies based on operating system cannot be applied in single processing that is not based on operating system because any context switching never occur on the single processing. So, this paper is trying to suggest the demand paging switching strategies that can be applied in paging loader running in single process. In the Return-Prediction-Algorithm, we saw the improved performance in the program that the function call occurred frequently in a long distance. And then, in the Most-Frequently-Used-Page-Remain-Algorithm, we saw the improved performance in the program that the references frequently occurred for the particular pages. Likewise, it had an enormous effect on keeping the memory reduction performance by the demand paging and reducing the running time delay at the same time.

  • This paper investigates the two dominant but intertwined current blocking mechanisms of Switching and Kirk Effect in pure ternary InAlAs/InGaAs/InAlAs Double Heterojunction Bipolar Transistors (DHBTs). Molecular Beam Epitaxy (MBE) grown, lattice-matched samples have been investigated giving substantial experimental results and theoretical reasoning to explain the interplay between these two effects as the current density is increased up to and beyond the theoretical Kirk Effect limit for devices of emitter areas varying from $20{\times}20{\mu}m^2$ to $1{\times}5{\mu}m^2$. Pure ternary InAlAs/InGaAs/InAlAs DHBTs are ideally suited for such investigations because, unless corrective measures are taken, these devices suffer from appreciable current blocking effect due to their large conduction band discontinuity of 0.5 eV and thus facilitating the observation of the two different physical phenomena. This enhanced understanding of the interplay between the Kirk and Switching effect makes the DHBT device design and optimization process more effective and efficient.

  • The paper presents a new global maximum search method for multimodal unknown functions of two variables. The search method is composed of two stages and sequentially samples the candidate point in a subdomain selected using a priority function in each stage. The search domain is auto-similarly divided into triangular subdomains, or cells, during the search process. A measure of accuracy of local maximum search is introduced to check if a local search has converged to a specified accuracy or the maximum of a local peak cannot be the global maximum. A criterion for switching from the first to the second stage, is proposed using a ratio of the observed peak width to the largest cell in the domain. By numerical simulations, the required number of trials is evaluated for some function models with different peak parameters, and the switching criterion is optimally determined. The results show that the proposed method obtains global maximum points with certainty and saves largely computation time even for functions with extremely steep peaks.
