  • Sustainability became the keyword of our society worldwide, and it is undoubtful that buildings are mainly responsible for green house gas emission and energy consumption. Responding to current needs, US Green Building Council has launched the first LEED rating system in 1998. Since then, LEED has been evolved and it has multiple sub-system categorized by project types. This study aims to analyze characteristics of sustainable neighborhood development and to suggest methodology for establishing certification system in Korea. First, LEED-ND 2009(LEED for Neighborhood Development) was addressed with certified projects by US Green Building Council. After that, LEED-NC 2009(LEED for New Construction) was compared with green building certification criteria in Korea to find out unforeseen aspects by each system, in terms of sustainable neighborhood development. As a result of this study, sustainable neighborhood development requires a transition of architects' responsibility beyond building design. Building technology has been advanced at extremely fast pace, however, applying techniques to individual architecture would not make our town sustainable. This study provided basic resources to understand that creating sustainable neighborhood is social phenomenon and more studies should be undertaken to establish Green Neighborhood Certification Criteria in Korea.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of school green building certification system in the concept of the Green Building Index by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. School is a public facility for students. So Green Building Certification System for School must have educational point of view adding to energy saving, reduction of greenhouse gas emission, etc. Also school is forming a large part with the apartment house in the green building certification system. So we need to manage the green building certification system for school to meet carbon reduction policy.

  • The ZEB certification system has come into effect since 2018 according to the ZEB road map. From 2020, the public buildings with the total floor area smaller than $3000m^2$ are the target of the certification, and it will be extended to the buildings with up to $5000m^2$ floor area in 2025. However, current mandatory regulations for public office buildings seem already to meet the ZEB certification system planned for 2025. In this work, two buildings belong to $3,000{\sim}5,000m^2$ in total floor area were selected to analyze the possibility of meeting the ZEB certification only by following current obligation regulations. Results showed that the test buildings satisfied the minimum building energy efficiency and energy self-sufficiency rates for the ZEB certification when the mandatory insulation and installation ratio of renewable energy are applied. This can be useful for revising the road map or extending the target buildings of the ZEB certification.

  • The purpose of this study is to suggest improvement plans of School Green Building Certification System by comparing items of domestic system with those of foreign system. Especially, we focused on school use classification. Use classification of Green Building Certification System must be based on Building Codes and reflect the nature of building use and size. Schools are divided into three groups ; preschool, school(elementary, junior high school, high school), university and ect. Also they must be set up assessment method reflecting the nature of school use and size.

  • Over the world, social demands and concerns of energy and resource depletions and environmental conservation have resulted in many researches and applications on sustainable development and construction. In order to support these demands and concerns, international green building certification systems such as LEED(Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) and BREEAM(Building Research Establishment Environmental Assessment Method) were developed. In Korea, the green building certification system was introduced in 2000 and widely applied to all types of new buildings in order to induce the diffusion of sustainable buildings on May, 2010. This paper investigates the importance of assessment criteria on multi-unit apartment projects among certification rating systems using the AHP(Analytic Hierarchy Process) method and suggests a new direction on certification assessment standards. For applying the AHP method, the survey of staffs in green building certification consulting companies and architectural design companies was conducted via e-mail. As a result, criteria like energy, indoor environment, land use, pollution control, and ecological environment among 9 main ones turned out important on assessing green building certification at multi-unit apartment projects, while criteria like water resource, transportation, maintenance management, and material and resource did relatively unimportant.

  • This paper is to construct the integrated sustainable management (ISM) system. This research focuses on the intergration of two concepts - balanced scorecard management system and the three pillars of sustainability. The system certification, product certification, innovation and participation tools are considered in constitutional elements for ISM system. Finally, this paper proposes the causal analysis, the third assessment, reporting for ISM system.

  • This study aims to suggest a direction to develop Korea's certification system by comparing the evaluation items between Korea's G-SEED (Green Standard for Energy & Environmental Design) and Germany's sustainable building certification. A number of eco-friendly building certification systems are being implemented globally. On the other hand, mutually comparable evaluation items have not been suggested up until now. Therefore, international standards have been trying to establish evaluation criteria for eco-friendly buildings, and Germany's sustainable building certification is the first certification standard that has accepted those evaluation criteria. According to the result of comparing Korea's green building certification with Germany's sustainable certification, the green building certification has evaluation items not only on environmentality (62.6%), but also on social aspects (25.4%) and economic aspects (3.0%). This suggests a crucial direction to the development of evaluation items regarding the social and economic aspects of green building certification.

Spacially since 1990, high-rise residential architecture has developed into increase rapidly, and nowdays, this has become one of the new residence type. but this have diverse problems. For this reason, this building faced neccessary to improve living space and obtain to eco-friendiness and sustainability. Therefore, this study is focused to environment-friendly architectural certification in Korea and other countries, aims to suggest planning and technical elements from this system. Through 11 cases of high-rise residential architecture certified sustainable certification system, this study drew out tendency and charateristics of main strategy elements. These analysis will express informations of current level and also suggest to direction for improvement in quality of high-rise residence.

  • The seriousness of greenhouse gas exhaustions and energy use of the building has increased, the world is making an effort with many requests and the consultation for sustainable development. For this reason, Green Building Certification Criteria has been implemented to reduce environmental load, high-performance and environmentally friendly in the United States, the United Kingdom and Germany. In response to the global trend like this, the Korean Government has induced the eco-friendly construction and sustainable development to implement the G-SEED (Green Building Certification Criteria of Korea) in 2002. However, in spite of the many authentication result, G-SEED has been pointed out that it needs for improve in the evaluation system of Apartment sector which accounts for more than 40% of the authentication. Therefore, the purpose of this study is to suggest improvements in the evaluation system. To achieve this, this study have selected for LEED, BREEAM, DGNB of comparison target, drawn improvements through comparing transition process in G-SEED.

  • Many countries have carried out various policies about sustainable building to protect the earth against the global warming and environmental pollution. Korea government has also executed the Green Building Certification System. In order to keep the performances of certificated buildings sustainable, the effective building maintenance is quite necessary. Meanwhile, the foreign green building certification systems have considered the building maintenance as one of the most important items to keep the building performance effective. However, Green Building Certification Criteria(GBCC) of Korea has not had the sufficient criteria for the maintenance of green building. Therefore, The purpose of this study is to find direction for the improvement of management categories of Korea Green Building Certification Criteria. For this aim, GBCC was compared with the foreign certification systems such as LEED, BREEAM and CASBEE.
